Q and A with Sibert.
Wow, this should be distributed to every potential recruit.
Q: So what is the difference in being an Ohio State Buckeye and a Dayton Flyer?
A: The main thing for me is the sense of basketball heritage here. This is a basketball school. Being there (OSU) was a great environment but you feel like a number at times, you don’t feel a part of something special. Here, you feel like you make a difference, where you’re in the game or a cheerleader on the side like I was last season. I can tell the fans even feel engaged, and that’s the main difference. It’s a lot more personal here and that’s what I really love about this school.

Good stuff. That would definitely be a good message to share with recruits particularly those who are also considering offers from Big 10 & SEC football powers. Next year's class with Big Steve (who Purdue flirted with) and Darrell Davis (who turned down Michigan State) could hopefully be good role models too for a kid evaluating what Dayton has to offer vs. a BCS Behemoth.

love his self-confidence (not cockiness) throughout the article. I think it's rubbing off on the rest of the team as well

Which poster said he didn't want any transfers who couldn't hack it at BCS schools? Said Sibert probably wouldn't help us any. I would say Sanford and Sibert are doing ok.

Who said that? I'm just curious.

I can't remember. I know he was very adamant about it, even when he was told Sibert was a Top 50 recruit out of high school. Maybe he will 'fess up.

Ok, thanks.
Also, do you have any thoughts on Sibert being drafted by the NBA?

I did not think Sibert could live up to his top 50 recruit billing. My reasoning wasn't because of his "not hacking it" at OSU, but because of high school injury, sitting out the transfer year and the sparse playing time at OSU all adding up to what I thought would be a lot of rust. Basically, I thought Sibert would be pretty good eventually, just didn't expect true greatness right off the bat. What I have seen has definitely been closer to greatness. So I underestimated him for sure.

I am opposed to picking up BCS benchwarmers. They have not generally worked out for us in the past. A large part of Xavier's success has been picking up BCS transfers who were contributors - not benchwarmers. If we are targeting transfers, my preference is to pick up proven commodities even if not at the BCS level (a certain point guard last year fit this mold).
Obviously I am glad we have Sibert but he is generally the exception to our track record in this area.

actually both Vee and Jordan didn't play much in their previous stop. XU has also had some success by picking up solid players from lesser conferences.
Historically UD has not had a lot of success with 4 year transfers. Back in my day the only one I can remember being an impact player was Colbert.

They also had some success with guys who were forced out of their old programs (the guy from Manhattan, Lavender, Ms. Doubtfire/Stainbrook.....)
