This week our Flyers travel to Des Moines IA to take on the Drake Bulldogs. The Bulldogs stand at 4-6 on the season with all 4 of their wins coming on their home field! They have not lost a home game and they have not won an away game. But make no doubt about it, these Bulldogs will push us to the limit on Saturday. They run a fairly balanced attack, averaging 140 yd/gm on the ground and 212 yd/gm through the air. At the helm for them is R-Sr Andy Rice who has had some very good games passing, particularly at home. He sports a QB rating of 115. The Bulldogs use a bunch of receivers, which are led by Saubert and Gallery. Their running attack is spearheaded by Conley Wilkins, who is averaging close to 90 yd/gm with the rock. On defense, they are led by R-Sr LB John Hugunin and DB Caz Zyks with 92 and 38 tackles, respectively. Based on those numbers, their LB must be very active for them, more than double the next closest defender in tackles. Again, make no mistake about it, this is a solid Drake team. Especially when they are playing at home. We will need another very good, solid, all around effort by our team. We need to continue our success on the ground as the high for Des Moines on Saturday is predicted at 34 degrees!!! It is that time of year to start grinding it out on the ground. On defense, as always, we need to get after their QB. We also need to be better against the run than we were in the second half of the Marist game. Like everyone, I want to see the great group of young men complete the regular season undefeated! I know we can do it if we play solid in all phases of the game on Saturday in Des Moines. Drake played a back-up QB against Butler last week. He went 16 of 27 for 175 yards with a TD and a pick. Not sure who will play against us.

I believe they also started a back-up running back.

Drake plays us real tough at Drake and the past few games at Drake have been lopsided in their favor. Something about Dayton visiting brings out the best in Drake.

It is senior day for Drake. It is a chance for a highlight to a tough season for them. They will be emotionally pumped up.

The Flyers will need to bring their -A- game. 11-0 looks a lot better on a ring then 10-1. 15-0 looks even better!!!

For those that make the trip you will enjoy Des Moines. I was very surprised about how modern the city is and the rolling hills and rivers. I was expecting flat cornfields as far as you can see. The stadium is also very nice although it is very old. Go Flers, let's finish this up the right way!

I hope some of you will make the trip. Temp will be around 40 degrees at kickoff-- but this is the Midwest in November, isn't it? Airport hotels are cheap on Hotwire.com. You might want to Google "Jethro's" and "Drake Diner" for comfort food near the stadium.

If I recall Jethro's is a chain of BBQ joints. There is one by the team hotel and it was very good. Earlier weather was 40's a slight chance of snow. Now changed to 40's and Sunny. Just pack for everything. Tailgating is a bit of a chore to find a parking lot of UD people. The stadium is cool and most known for the Drake Relay's for all you track and field people.

I just checked weather.com, and they are calling for partly cloudy with a high of 33 and a low of 18. Not sure where the 40's are coming from. I hope you are right and weather.com is wrong! Either way, I expect another terrific game.

Along with a bourbon or two...three... If we don't have to drive, all the better. Sometimes walking is a big enough chore.

As for the weather, I've checked last two days and it keeps on changing and for the worse. It's not like it matters either way, we've got to play in it whatever it is.

Saturday won't be easy, that town has been a black hole for previous Flyer teams. I personally think we owe Drake a good whoopin, as last time our guys went out there it was embarrassing starting late in the 2nd quarter, bleeding just never stopped. Tough place to play, especially if that wind starts kicking up but our Flyers will be up for it. They are on a mission. I like what the offense is doing with the 2 back attack, nice ying-yang, at times even 3 back approach. That offensive line continues to impress me more and more each week and the defense just has to be who they are and it'll be W #11. Consistent to the End guys and gals.

With apologies for interrupting the weather forecasting, a Drake poster on a PFL fan board indicated that we should expect to see both Andy Rice (QB) and Conley Wilkins (RB) playing on Saturday. Neither one played last weekend against Butler. In other words, a really tough game just got a little tougher.

Frankly don't care about the food or weather...wish I had to though. Only advice to those traveling to Dez Moin is don't drink their tap water (take a bottle to motel room) & on the roads, don't pull alongside of a hog hauler unless you're sure to pass it!

My problem is even thinking about this game. My mind is resting in a bracket somewhere. I've even checked stadiums at possible sites! If I'm so wound about two weeks away, image the players. This cold anticlimactic final game is going to be tough to win...a stumbling block to perfection.

It is 22 here in Des Moines and very sunny. The area received about 5 inches of snow on Friday evening. A perfect day for a football game! There was a nice article in the Des Moines paper about Drakes Sr LB Hugnanin. With 8 tackles today, he would become the all time leading tackler in Drake history. In the summary for the game today, they mentioned Kascor as our leading rusher. Obviously the writer did not bother to look at the depth chart and realize the guy is injured. Talk about poor journalism! Anyway, looks like a great day for our Flyers to cap off an undefeated season!
