Former UD provost, Fred Pestello has been named president of SLU. See link.

This is a very big deal that may well have implications re UD and the New Big East. First, this is a huge leap for Pestello and for SLU. He is the first non-Jesuit president in the school's history. Second, after working together for years, Pestello and Curran are very close.

When Creighton jumped into the NBE it was widely reported that the Jesuit connection was a key factor, with the CU president sitting on MU's board. Well, Pestello is not a Jesuit...and it seems entirely reasonable that Curran and Pestello will be able to "talk" about the NBE and its implications in a way that would not have been possible with SLU's previous Jesuit president.

Whatever, this a grand career leap for Fred, and indirectly is flattering to UD where he "learned" how to fly.

and a few years ago in his first year as President at Le Moyne, they beat Syracuse in an exhibition game - coincidence? I think not!
