Grad Transfer Season Has Officially Opened
Khris Lane of Longwood has announced he will grad transfer per Jon Rothstein. I don't think he would be a fit here, but he is a KP type player. 6'6 245lb forward that averaged 17ppg and 7 boards. He did shoot 34% from 3 this year and 37% as a redshirt So last year.

I don't think anyone's going to be a fit here unless someone transfers. And honestly I only see one guy who might consider it. And I kinda hope he doesn't.

Not so sure about that.Doesn't Archie have one more scholly open? With a real concern at PG next year, and PG depth, with the inconsistency of Crosby and still a lack of true front court size ( Miller simply needs a ton of work and may even want to transfer and who knows if the big freshman coming in will be ready to log the minutes he'll need), I can see UD grabbing a 5th year grad transfer if it's the right one.

Not unless the NCAA increased scholarship limits from 13 to 14 when I wasn't paying attention we don't.

I agree, I do not think any will unless somebody is planning on transferring out, but a few years back, Archie did over-sign. Maybe he had an idea someone was planning on leaving, but he still did over-sign.

No, we do not have anymore scholarships currently available. But coaches are always recruiting, and not all scholarships are guaranteed for 4 years.

Who was the oversign? I'm not questioning you, I just don't remember.
I could see him doing it, but I would be surprised.

The year Louisville won the national title they had a couple players revert to walkon status so they could sign a stud or two they felt they needed. Thought at the time it was illegal, especially who is watching to see if they in fact pay their own tuition or the slate gets wiped clean when no one is watching. Clearly they had over the limit players, though a couple were injured and could not play but were still on ship.

If I remember correctly, we were over-signed the year of our E8 run, but then Price and Alex G transferred. Can somebody please double check me. I know there was a time under Archie that we were briefly over the 13 scholarship limit.

I sure wouldn't complain if we brought in a 5th year senior PG.

I remember that as well. Fortunately, it hasn't become the norm. It just seems easy to circumvent. If a kid took out financial aid loans, it would be easy to set up a direct or indirect payment plan after graduation (or just leaving) to pay off the loan.

The two players who went from scholarship to walk on status were Kyle Kuric and Chris Smith. Kuric's father is a neurosurgeon and Chris Smith's brother is NBA player JR Smith. Neither one faced any financial burden by having to pay for school and Pitino said that was the only reason he asked them to give up their scholarships.

If Jaaron Simmons were to transfer and if he were to come to UD, it totally changes my perspective on next year. While I think we will be good next year, there are alot of unknowns. Next year is somewhere inbetween a rebuilding year and a reloading year.
Cunningham, X and baby D will surely start, but beyond that who knows. I imagine Kostas or RM will also start, along with Crosby? But if Crosby shows stretches of erraticness willl he be pulled for true freshman MW? I dont expect MW to get more than 12m a game or so as a true freshman, so who else will play point? Baby D? Can Kostas handle the ball like his brother?
The Czech guy we signed Svodoba will be 21 when the season starts -- so he's hardly a 'freshman'. How good is he and will he start or at least give us 20m off the bench? Alot of questions. Inserting a proven PG into the lineup takes away alot of doubt and provides some stability and optimism.
A lineup of Simmons, DD, KA, X and JCunn makes me somewhat giddy.

FWIW, Kostas has had some practices under his belt, much like Big Steve (RIP) benefited from.

During our E8 year our only seniors were Oliver, Kav, and Vee. We later lost Price and Alex G, but would not have known that at the signing periods. We added Baby D, Big Steve, Rodgers, Cooke, and Ryan Bass. Bass was a late add after Price and Alex left. So for a brief time we added 4 while only losing 3.

I bet it was Alex G that was "suggested" to move on, because I think Khari moving on was a surprise. I do somewhat remember that, so thanks.

I agree, Alex's playing time went way down late in the year, and he only played in the tournament when we were in major foul trouble against Stanford.

Is this Heat on Simmons of Ohio U?
With the 6.5 assist, 3.5 rebounds and 16 points a game as a Junior?
Yes, I'd likely take him!

Why does everyone think Jaaron Simmons is coming here? I have heard this multiple times. Did we not pass on him during his initial recruitment?

We have two decent PG for next year. How many good bigs? Kostas rumored by some to be a forward and the frosh will be a project. Stop the PG talk as we are one over in scholarships and it is not our biggest need.

We are not 1 over. You get 13 and currently we have 13 for next year.

I recall being in the UD locker room after the loss to Florida in the Elie 8 in Memphis. Guys like Vee were lower than whale poop. Meanwhile, Alex was sitting in a corner by himself with his headphones on, literally and figuratively tuned out.
I figured something was up with him and there was.

Jaaron Simmons is scheduled to graduate and he has the option to go somewhere. He has proven himself to be a very good D1 PG and if he wants to come to UD it can't hurt to ask AM.

We have no proven point guards. Wright may be great but has yet to step on a college floor. Crosby had and is a disaster. Further evidenced by his one shot vs Davidson. Still not sure what he was doing. Gave us 2 low quality minutes in a critical game. We need a transfer desperately.
