Pregame radio show
What are your thoughts on the pregame radio show that lasts 1 hour before each game. Just right or too much?

I tune in halfway through typically, when the X's and O's get discussed. I am sure it is an hour because it provides an avenue to sell advertising that WHIO needs to get total bang for their buck.

I feel like it should be about 45 minutes. an hour is too long, 30 minutes is too short. What amazes me, driving home from work, I often catch parts of the UK or Louisville pregame shows on 1530 homer out of cincy. Those shows come on at 5:30 for a 7:30 tip, 2 hours of coverage and wall to wall callers. UD obviously doesn't have a fan base that can match the size of the UK or Louisville fan base, so 2 hours simply wouldn't work from a "keeping it interesting" perspective, that they get away with it for a twice weekly basketball game amazes me (plus I'm sure they have a coaches show like everyone else)

I think Flyer Al is on to something. Namely, an hour long show allows WHIO to sell more advertising time. And that is important.

The longer the better, but it comes down to selling the ads.

Heck I would like to hear an hour and a half about the Flyers. The more info the better.

An hour would be great if there was actual content. I've always thought that there was about 5 minutes of good content, 30 min of advertising and 25 min of fluff.
Love the player interviews. Pre game comments by coach are okay. Nothing else is memorable

I would like the longer version...that is as long as they remove Nancy Wilson from the broadcast. I tune out as soon as I hear her voice. There are plenty of things you can do, both live and previously recorded. Tom Michaels used to have a mini talk show from the Flight Deck that was much better than anything Wilson's done.

Im working on a possible weekly podcast/radio thing to do ourselves. Not really game-specific. More or less weekly roundup/free for all. But, it may be until next season until I get it operational. At one time Mike Ivcic was interesting in being involved, but I havent run into him in a while and he's moved on and is out-of-state.

I enjoy interviews with the players, too. I just think it should be done by someone other than her.

I enjoy the interviews with the players the FIRST time.... Re-running them over and over later in the season is a waste.

I like the player interviews, but don't care to hear them repeated during the season.
If you want filler, the interviews, do them at a different time during the show. I can't recall all the timing of the show, but it seems as though every time I am driving down, I end up with Wilson's bit and the player interviews.
I like to hear hoops. Larry and Bucky. Coaches. People that know the game well. I turn the volume down with Wilson. My 2 cents. Hoops people talking hoops is fine with me. Heck, Bedell isn't my favorite, but he knows the game. Anyone know if he will even be doing the post game this season? He got elevated in the WHIO regime from field reporter to weekend desk.

Keep it at an hour, but the more important info needs to be in the first 30 to 40 minutes. The last 20 minutes or so we miss as we are heading into the arena at that point.

An hour is good for me and my van load of relatives because we leave an hour before the game and enjoy the show on the way. 1/2 hr or so later, we are getting out to walk to the arena and would miss it all. My step-sis and her husband drive up from Cincy for all the games and enjoy the show, too.

I want to hear from the older Flyers....You know guys from the 1984 or 1974 team. Even guys from the dark days of the O'Brien years.... You know there are some awesome stories from those days.
Get some of these older Flyers on for game analysis like you have on the post game show. I love to hear the thoughts of Brooks Hall, Norm, and Derrick Dukes.
If they want to make the pre-game show better, get some ex-Flyers involved. Give us some stories about the "good old days" and then tell us your thoughts on the current team. You could interview all kinds of ex-players from multiple generations. There are a ton of former Flyers in the local area.
I mean do a pre-game spot each week with former Flyers from the 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's or 90's. Give us "a where are they now" segment. Let them tell a few good stories. (most memorable games, funny stories about practice, road trips, former teammates, previous coaches etc.) Get their take on the current program. (players, coaches, facilities) Maybe talk about the recruiting process. You know, how much things have changed. It would be great.

I think we should make a day of it, haha. I enjoy both the pre and post-game shows. Flyer love in the valley hasn't diminished along with its population. I think it's as strong as ever..
I felt deprived Saturday when I played hookie from our first exhibition game thinking I would get the full factorial from Larry and Bucky on the radio. But when I heard Larry doing the football game I rushed to grab my schedule thinking the time was wrong. I'd have dragged my lazy a** to the game had I known it wouldn't be broadcast.. Haha.
As an aside I think we have enough interest to support 'more news' surrounding the men's hoops program in the Miami Valley. In my mind it is still a hotbed and could inevitably help the program in regard to getting the news out about recruiting to potential recruits, local and abroad.. We are still unique here as a basketball town.. I think everyone left but the faithful.. Flyer Faithful that is..
Go Flyers!!

How many times have you wondered what ever happened to so and so....Jeff Elder? Marco Pikard, Matt Cooper?.....
Did you ever wonder what the team was thinking when Donoher called that time out on what would have been the winning shot of the UCLA game. I can just imagine them all looking at each other, thinking this game should be over. What was Jim O'Brien like on a recruiting trip? How bad could have been? How did Chip Hare end up with frost bite on his ears? etc....etc....It would make for a pretty good show.

Ryan Perryman's opinion on what made him so dominant as a rebounder at only 6'7". What are Dick Vitale's thoughts of the Flyers decades after doing a dance at mid-court after that pre-game proclamation. I'd love to hear from Johnny Davis, Ed Young, the Paxsons, and on and on..
