We are so screwed. Until Pollard gets back we are a two man team, and very beatable.

Josh rehab ahead of schedule
Jablonski had a brief update in this morning's DDN that, according to AM, Josh is ahead of schedule with his rehab. "We've gotten great reports," Miller said. "Josh is a very detailed kid...he's ahead of schedule." The report went on to say that if JC isn't back he will hope to earn a medical redshirt.

Josh posted a pic on Twitter of him using the brand new AlterG anti-gravity treadmill to rehab his ankle. That sucker cost big bucks.

Announcers mentioned it during the game. They also mentioned that yesterday was the first time Josh could take some steps without a walker.
Anyone know how the anti-gravity treadmill works? Must somehow minimize the pounding on the legs and ankles.

I've only seen Josh use crutches, but I only see him at games. I think the anti-gravity allows you to do some cardio (eg treadmill)with out bearing the full weight of your body. This will also help prevent gait problems which develop when you can't bear weight equally on both legs. I developed a gait problem after a non' weight bearing injury. Took me just as long or longer to correct the gait as it did to rehab the injury.

a little update on Josh, can't quite make out what he said, he's either a week ahead of schedule or just "ahead of schedule" either is good news:
https://soundcloud.com/dayton-radio
I can't find a podcast of last night coach's show. I caught a bit of it driving home, and Archie elaborated on Josh there as well (I assume this is an "agenda" item that he lets the host, Mark Neal in the link, Larry on his radio show, that he wants to address). If I heard hit correctly, Archie reiterated that Josh was ahead of schedule, and it sounded like Archie is planning on having him back. I wish I had the link, as the feed was coming in/out based upon where I was at so I might have been mixing Cunningham updates w/ Cooke updates, anyone have a link or listen that can elaborate?
If the initial time frame is correct (3 months) and if Josh is ahead of schedule as Archie mentioned, that could mean getting Josh back near the end of January, beginning of February, which would allow them to slowly work him back into the mix for a few games, get him roughly 50% what would have been normal minutes for a few games, then have him back at 100% or as close to it as he'll get this season by the time March and the postseason rolls around.

thanks, Listened to the beginning, and no mention of Cunningham (though there was more discussion of Cooke's injury and recovery) so perhaps I was mixing up the bits of Mark's show that I was able to hear last night w/ the bits of the call in show that I was able to hear. At any rate, I like what he told Mark, if UD can get Cunningham healthy and back to or near 100% heading into March it will add another level of toughness down on the blocks. Add in the development of X-man and Pollards recovery and they'll be able to stand strong against most teams down low despite being undersized.

Probably about 3/4 way through, he talked about Josh. Archie still saying he is not counting on him but I think listening between the lines (?) there is a good shot the scenario you describe is how it plays out.

I noticed today that he was moving around freely. Really not even a hint of a limp. It has gotten me kinda optimistic that they might be getting the band back together sooner than hoped.

There have been rumblings about seeking a medical redshirt. If he and Archie really think that's best for him, I defer. But a healthy Josh in March can completely shift the thinking of this season. This is far and away the best class we've had in my time following and they deserve to be at full strength for their last run. The ceiling could be very high come tournament time...and I think you push all the chips to the center for that.

There's no doubt , imho, that he plays this year and I'd bet sooner than expected....I bet he's with the team no later than the week of 2-13 and probably sooner...How many mpg? No idea but he'll be able to do things out there to help this team defending and rebounding AND to work himself back into the basketball routine..AM is always going to be far more pessimistic and not lead on...
JC still has 2 years of eligibility left after this season..If he had 1 year left then maybe a different story but I'd bet he's not too keen staying in school for 6 years and that's "if" he was granted the medical RS year....Like most of us, he sees something pretty special with this team and that climbs up a notch or two with him playing...He's probably seeing he has 6-7 regular season games, 3 in the A10 tourney and who knows how many in the NCAA tourney...If they do what they believe they can then that's 13-14 more games which is close to half a season in an optimal situation..

Feb 14 UD plays @ SLU (happy Valentine's day sweetie, we're going to see how many free throws the Bilikins can shoot).
That is roughly the original 3 month period from when he got injured at Alabama (11-15), so If all that is accurate as well as the talk that he's "ahead of schedule" than that seems very reasonable, if not sooner. That would be a very good time to work him back into game shape and into the rotation. Lord help us if UD actually needed Josh during the SLU game, but it would hopefully give him more time out on the court where it won't matter as much if he's playing winded, just that he's getting his burn in.
Follow that up with a home dates w/ St Bonnies and George Mason, where his availability could definitely help even if its only for smaller chunks of time as he works himself back. Then finally you've got a tough 3 game stretch to end the season, @ Davidson, home to VCU, @ GW where hopefully he'd be close to or at 100% and Archie could really nail down the rotations, pick up some big wins and be full steam ahead going to Pittsburgh. The game prior to SLU is at Rhody, so long as he's structurally stable, having him down low to bang with their big guy for 5-10 minutes a half could really help pull out what would be a tough road win.
And, as others have mentioned, I think it makes 100% sense to bring him back this season, if he's medically and physically capable (and willing, which it sounds very much like he wants to play this season). Nothing is promised down the road, he could be a big part of something very special this season, and I think its worth taking a shot at that for all parties involved. May not pay off, UD may collapse down the stretch, there may be a rash of injuries elsewhere, they may lose in the A10 finals in Pittsburgh and be left out b/c UConn wins a game in the AAC tournament and all of a sudden passes the "eye test" despite getting blown out by 30 in round 2. I'd take the risk, assuming the ankle is medically stable.

I think Josh only has 1 more season of eligibility after this year unless he gets a medical redshirt for this year. I believe he played 2 seasons at Bradley.

No, he's a redshirt soph right now. Easy to find out. With no medical RS he'll go into next season as a bball junior.

I stand corrected. I didn't look it up because I was so sure. Even if he didn't have 2 more years after this year, I thought he would play this year if he could. Now there is no doubt. I would think playing with KP and KD is something her really wants to do.

I agree with the overall sentiment. Another THREE years in college for him has him at what...24 as a senior? 25? In fairness, looking back I wouldn't mind being 25 at Dayton, but I was ready to enter the real world at 22 back then.

I believe he'll be as good as he's ever going to be at the college level in the next couple years and whether that means he plays in the NBA or overseas, he'll probably be ready to start earning at least a years/seasons worth of salary instead of staying in school six years as you're alluding to..

In football Medical Redshirts aren't typically awarded to transfers, unless they are forced to miss significant time in 2 or more seasons. Basically they are only awarded to players who's missing time was out of their control. Doesn't typically work with transfers.
I'm not sure how it works in basketball though. Also, they don't usually award the medical redshirt until after a players college eligibility has run out, and they and the school have to apply for it.
I dont think any of that will matter, because it sounds like he will be back and accumulate more playing time than is allowed for a redshirt, and I doubt he'd want to play a 6th year here/elsewhere without getting paid.

Archie has stated though that should Josh decide to pursue a medical redshirt that they would take the tact of Josh would have miss last season due to the surgeries anyways in his application.

Saying if he didn't leave Bradley, he would have sat out a year for medical reasons. Then say he got hurt like he did with UD during the second game of the season and did not play again that year. If that is the case, in essence they would be asking for a 2nd medical redshirt. Is that possible?

Isn't this red-shirt-thread really just a fun discussion and academic exercise? Based upon everything I have read...you would have to say, with a high level of certainty, that the kids going to play this season. Am I missing something?

I don't believe he has resumed any basketball activities. Most work has been on the specialized equipment, pool work etc that is non weight bearing

Yes. He has been working on skills and shooting as of last week. Hasn't yet begun dunking or full scale work outs.

I think Mr.Cunningham will be back soon, real soon. I see him getting minutes against St.Joes and rolling from there.

Confidence that requires no basis in observable fact. Welcome to the Internet!
That said, I think his speculation has to do with the three month recovery timeline given shortly after the injury and the appearance that Cunningham appears to be recovering as expected.
In interviews, Archie has been less the optimistic though. He may be hedging, but Archie has discussed the possibility of an injury redshirt and expressed some skepticism regarding regaining fitness this late in the season.

I am concerned about integration of Josh into the lineup. He hasn't practiced in 3 months. There is a lot to take in and learn that can only happen through playing. I hope he plays(and plays well) but my expectations are tempered and expect it to be bumpy road for 2-3 weeks.

The handling of getting Josh back in the lineup will be extremely important. We need to take care of business in the regular season but if we find ourselves having to win the A10 tourney, we will really need Josh. Need to get him enough pt to not sacrifice any regular season game while still getting him prepared for the post season.

He isn't coming back from a minor injury...even when released you can bet on 2 to 3 weeks before conditioning and game speed are back. He is ahead of schedule. He isn't Superman. Banking on him being back about the second week of Feb and 100% game ready around A10...just my 2 cents.

Agreed. He's been conditioning for the last month thanks to the chamber. He'll be back around mid-Feb. Probably home game against Bona from what I've been told/heard. That way the team doctors can monitor him more closely and, god forbid something happens, he'll have everything right there and not have to travel.

I'd be happy if he just clocks in a few minutes a game, just to get his legs under him. We definitely need him for the A-10 tournament and beyond, but only if the risk is low.

Per Dave Jablonski, Cunningham may practice as soon as today (!!) and is feeling 100% physically and mentally.

If he is back in full practice today (meaning no restrictions other than continuous PT), I think he may appear in a game prior to Saturday Feb 18. That's a long time if you are full speed and in contact drills. I would guess the 10th if he's full speed. If they do a week of non contact, then it might be the 18th.

Coach Miller knows best, but I sure wish we would have Josh for URI and Hassan Martin & Iverson. That's a tough two-some on the boards who racked up 18 rebounds against us a month ago.

@Archie_Miller on Josh Cunningham: went full-go today in practice without any limitations. Said he'll dress tomorrow, but likely won't play
John Bedell @JBedellWHIO 6m6 minutes ago
@Archie_Miller added Josh "doesn't want to red shirt", says he wants to be out on the floor. @WHIORadio
John Bedell @JBedellWHIO 5m5 minutes ago
@Archie_Miller also said though that Cunningham "isn't the Josh he was when he got hurt" says he'll have to work back into game shape.

The DDN is reporting that Cunningham will be in uniform tomorrow night against St.Joes.
I would like to thank my 2 half minded detractors for their earlier posts . Sometimes things can be pretty obvious if you just look at the facts and put 2 and 2 together.

I am not sure who you consider to be your 2 half minded detractors but I have a feeling you are including me in the pair which would be off base because I was simply trying to find out whether you had inside info or were making an educated guess. That said, for the record, you said Josh would get, minutes against St Joes and roll from there. So, if he doesn't play tommorrow, you will have lost al credibility.

I will at the very least be 50% right. I can live with that. The return date is they key, the "minutes" are just semantics.

While we are pimping for Pride+, I will add that there would always be a way to get info, discussion, etc. for men's bball but while I don't follow the other sports as closely, I do like to get details on football, vball, soccer, etc. Without this site, I don't think I would be able to be as connected.

Archie was playful during his radio show. First he said that Josh would be dressed, but wouldn't play. Later in the same discussion said something to the effect of since he's dressed maybe we'll throw him out there and see what happens.
I doubt Martelli will pay any attention to his comments, but it sounds like some gamesmanship for Hurley to consider.

I love competitive banter, usually when others get upset with statements I make it is because they are 50% correct.

I corrected your statement, snowflake.

Awwwhh man. Snowflake? I was just about to ask how I could get into the Kings court?
50% correct? What did I get wrong? Cunningham will get minutes tonight. Lock it in.

How's this! If Cunningham plays >5 min I'll make a Royal Decree adding you to the Royal Roundtable tomorrow morning.
If he doesn't, you change your name to SnowflakeRamodWaleskowski.

I feel like I have a pretty good username. Do I really have to ruin it by placing snowflake in there. Urgghhh.
Change >5 to >0 and we have a deal my friend. Getting minutes is getting minutes haha.

There's a YUGE difference between PLAYING in a game and GETTING in a game...so make it >2 min because 12 seconds isn't 'playing'.
Deal...or no deal?
Think about it... ' SIR RamodWaleskowski' would sure look good on the Royal Varsity Jacket!

I'm in that awkward stage where I am to big for a medium but not quite big enough for a large.

Medium?
Large?
In the Royal Kingdom size is determined by strength. Here are your choices:
Thor
Atlas
Hercules
Schwarzenegger
Perryman
sWimpy, and
Jenner

You still don't know how I knew what I knew.....
Who needs pride plus when you can dabble in common sense??

Pride+ isn't about intel. I thought it was but it isn't. Plus is about supporting a site someone works hard on and something most of enjoy every single day. The intel is a bonus. And i guarantee if you read one of Chris' @monthly recaps you'd see its worth every nickel.

I got some serious advice for you RamodW: If the fiancé gets upset over $49 1X/year for something you are passionate about, my advice is to make her your former fiancé. Unlike fine wine, it ain't getting better with time :-)

I am absolutely offended Ryan Perryman is 5th on this list. Laughable. Absolutely laughable. And he only outranks Swampy and Jenner? Ryan Perryman belongs as #1 on any list.
Actually no one deserves to share a list with the "King of Caroms"
Ryan Perryman folks, number 3 in your programs, number 1 in your heart!

No one deserves to share a list with the "King of Caroms" but yet BRob sharing a username with him is acceptable? Oh the irony

FWIW, Perryman was at the game on Saturday. He was kind enough to stop for a photo with my wife. One of the all time greatest Flyers.
