2017-'18 Games of Note
Same rules as in prior years, if you only care about the Flyers and what they do; if you believe that the Flyers taking care of their 'business" will propel them into the postseason and you don't want to read about a bunch of other teams, then this thread isn't for you, so shut your mouth (or fingers). As for everyone else, anything college basketball related is fair game. I'll try to update games for UD's opponents as we progress, perhaps highlight a few interesting games. Should UD put themselves into position to be ranked or earn an NCAA bid, then I'll highlight any games of teams they're trying to move ahead of for those accomplishments. The more help, the better informed we'll all be.
So with that out of the way, the season kicks off on Friday, not a ton of interesting games across the landscape, nationally, GTech @ UCLA is probably the most "headline worthy" though I have no idea how much GTech has improved since the days of Gregory, or how UCLA is suppose to be this year. Name wise its intriguing if nothing else. Iowa St @ Missouri could be good as well, Missouri has brought in some young studs, Iowa St is usually decent. North Florida is @ Mich St; NFU has been decent at times in the past few years. Archie opens up with Indiana State at home. Northern Iowa is usually pretty good, they are at Chapel Hill. Nothing else jumped out at me, but I'm sure there are a few other sneaky good games, or games I just flat out missed on a busy opening night.

The season has officially begun.
Cincy rolls to an easy 107-77 victory over Savannah St.
Not noted above, #25 aTm vs West Virginia Huggy Bears (-6.5); I believe the game is in Germany somewhere. Memphis vs Bama is intriguing.
The A-10 should be favored in all 11 games this afternoon; hopefully UD holds up their end and the conference starts out on an 11-0 bang. Testicle U is the hardest team of the 11 opponents.

Indiana State 45 Indiana 25 late in the first half at IU. ISU is a possible opponent in Charleston. Would be a huge win for ISU and horrible loss for Archie to start off at IU.

Should he really have to turn them around against ISU? I get they may not be as competitive in the B10 as he would like but would think they would beat ISU in their opener. Lose by 21 at home is a crushing blow.

Yes, losing at home ti ISU by 21 is the equivalent of us losing by 25 to Ball State. It's inexcusable at Indiana.

Niagara over the Bonnies 77-75
Davidson stomps Goliath aka Charleston Southern 110-62
Miami (OH) over Fordham 55-54
George Mason over Lafayette 67-65
VCU over Grambling 94-65
Delaware over Richmond 76-63
UMass over UMass little brother 74-69
GDub over Howard 84-75
Rhody over UNC Ashville 84-60
St Looey over Seattle 62 - 46
Not the best start for the A-10. I think they were favored in all of their games and lost 3. Really surprised at the Bonnie loss.

Yeah, the "smart" IU fans will be willing to give him time. But how many IU fans are already calling for his head? At least a handful, I bet.
Regardless, Go Flyers! Go Coach Grant!

ISU finished in 10th place (out of 10 teams) in the MVC last season and picked to finish 8th in 2017-18 so you would think a B10 team would have little problem at home in that game

Jaylen Adams, SBU's best player didn't play. Tough for any team to lose a Senior who averaged 20.6 per game and 37.4 minutes per game last year for the opener don't you think?

Jaylen Adams is a future NBA player. You can't take that kind of player out of the lineup and expect to win.

Even without Adams Bona has to be able to beat freaking Niagra at home if they fancy themselves an NCAA tournament team(which they do). Niagra was 10-23 last year and #276 in the RPI. The guy at BonaBlog was losing his mind last night and I really don't blame him.

Not all Div 1 schools are equal, nor are Div 2. Lots of decent Div 2's and 3's out there, who would be somewhat competitive. They not only knew who they were scheduling, but beat a lesser opponent embarrassing them. What they did is bad no matter who the opponent, level or sport.
I hope UD never runs up a score like that, unless it is against X.

Wasn't commenting on the quality of the opponent, just the statement about scheduling a Div II team. And honestly, is it any different than doing the same to some Div I schools, or what happens in college football? Not saying it's right, just that it happens.

George Mason was picked to finish 10th in the A10 and they are playing at no. 16 Louisville. A bit of a surprise as Mason is ahead 44-38 with 12:48 to go.

UL over George Mason 72-61
UK over Vermont 73-69
Purdue crushes Chicago State 111 - 42
Arizona leading UMBC 75-63 midway through 2nd half
UK struggled quite a bit. AZ is struggling as well. Maybe Archie should have played Chicago State instead of Indiana State.

Archie and IU “beating up” on Howard 24-23 with 3:58 left in 1H. IU looks horrible.
Btw, favored by 24 with 98% chance to win.
Also, Edwin Young one of the officials and just called a T on Howard.

Today Richmond got spanked by Jacksonville St. at home 94-61. How many decent wins does the A-10 have so far?

My main takeaway from Hofstra: they play in an empty gym. Looks like a high school gym as well.

My main takeaway is that the stream is clear and they have announcers! That put gives them a leg up on UD already.

Nevada 88 v. Rhode Island 81
What happened in this game? Did anyone watch it or have any insights? I honestly thought Rhode Island would be borderline top 25 team this year. I am very disappointed in their loss last night- guess chalk it up to Dan Hurley's teams always under performing in regular season...
I'll tell you what, if UD improves throughout the non-con, why can't we win the pathetic A-10 this year?

Crazy part is that he came back in the game and played the last 2 or 3 minutes. No tape or brace at all. Missed 2 FTs too.

St. Bonaventure has cancelled their game tonight due to power issues on campus. I guess they don't have enough welders on campus to fix stuff anymore.

Ball State was 23-77 from the field 29.9% and 11-37 on three pointers 29.7%.
Apparently Oklahoma studied tape of our one point win over Ball State and figured if they shut Persons down it would result in an easy win as he only had 4 pts. on 2-5 shooting.

It's early, but looks like Ball St will live and die by the 3 and we got them on a hot night. I'm pulling for them to be more hot than cold the rest of the way.

Ball State has taken on a very difficult OOC schedule, @ UD, @ Okie, @ Oregon, @ Bucknell, @ Indiana St, @ ND, home vs Valpo, home vs the fighting Ray Harpers. 6 true road games (bucknell may not be any good, but its still on the road), plus a tough home game vs Valpo. Ball State's ability to help UD's resume was always going to reside in how they perform in the MAC. While they'll loss many of the games listed above, sneak out a few of those road wins, finish strong in the MAC and they'll finish the year up a top 70 rpi team and be a boost to UD's resume, if it should even matter if UD's resume is worth considering.
On a side note, I tuned in that game with around 12:30 to go in the 2nd half. While the game was already well out of hand, it was early enough in the contest that I suspect most people that showed up were still in their seats enjoying the butt whopping their team was laying out. Problem was, it appeared to be friends and family night in Norman, lots of empty seats. I realize the Sooners are working their way towards a Big12 title game in football and perhaps a football playoff appearance and national title, but I would have assumed their basketball program would have seen greater support on a wednesday night. Stark difference b/w the visuals of the UD home crowd vs the Sooner Home crowd.

I'm still in relative shock that Bruce Pearl wasn't placed on administrative leave until the FBI case was resolved. It would be one thing if he had a squeaky clean past like Sean Miller, but Pearl was previously under a "show-cause" for lying to the NCAA.

USF will run the weave with the post players setting screens 35 feet from the hoop and shoot 35% free throws. 13 players will play 15+ minutes. First sub will be at the 19:40 mark. IU will suck because Archie no longer cares because he's taking the Louisville job.
Pretty predictable actually.

No! A _avier player acting like an asshat?! Unbelievable!
Edit: Just saw what he did. Maybe he's auditioning for the Steelers? About the same level of class.

Virginia goes into the high school gym in Richmond and beats the Rams 76-67.
Couldn't have happened to a nicer group of fans on twitter.

Is this a home and home series? I looked at IU's schedule from last year, and IU did not play at USF.

We had a tough assignment tonight, but how would you like to be Archie going up against Duke right now? What is the over and under for Bagley going for 40 and 20?

Duke by 10, but IU played with them for 37 minutes. That Miller kid can coach, wow! He spread Duke all night and took their two bigs away from the basket, and made his kids play great D.
The B10 is getting pasted by the ACC.

Coach K: IU is getting better every game, Archie's guys are buying into his offensive and defensive schemes.

More from Coach K: Archie is a terrific coach, and he is going to build something great here because he is basing it on fundamental stuff....they play hard, they make you move on defense, they have a well-constructed offense, and they play as one.

UNC 43 and Davidson 37 at the half. Davidson giving them all they can handle. If you love offensive movement and passing, watch Davidson. On ESPN2.

Carolina starting to pull-away. Fouls piling-up on Davidson. Count for the game is ‘Cats 19, Heels 11. Those big Davidson bullies!

85-75 UNC. We will have a very tough time handling Davidson, even at home. Not sure anyone can guard Aldridge, but hopefully Williams. Wow they have a bunch of three point shooters.
Not sure there have been any walkons as good as Luke Maye. He had like 24 and 18 boards tonight, and is averaging over 20 a game on a very good team with a bunch of four and five stars.

Rumors of a St Louis rebound this year may be exaggerated, as they are being taken to the shed at Butler, 31-11.
