Post Game Analysis
I've seen some complaint/how could we threads. Can someone supply some other observations about the overall game in general.
I heard steve was solid first half. Cooke was pretty on in the first half.
And it seems that DD may be more on track. But i didn't see any of it.
(just game tracked it the final 10 minutes).
Thanks!

We played the most complete half of the year in the first half. The offense was flowing, the defense was strong, and we were resembling true team.
The second half started fast with 3 very quick opportunities to score on layups, but all came up misses. Then the Bonnies got on fire, helped by poor defense, some tighter officiating and some poor decisions on offense (led by Crosby). We had to hold on for dear life - some self inflicted and some a result of the incredible shooting by Bonnies.
Overall, it was a good win for the team, but full of coaching opportunities. This team is struggling to put it together for a complete game.
From a player perspective, most played well for the majority of the game. Cooke and Pierre led the way with similar stat lines. The biggest issues were that Cooke and Smith couldn't hit free throws down the stretch and Crosby played a little excited.
If they can learn from this and go out and thump Fordham and never let them in the game at all, then we have a chance to go on a nice little run. The fact is that 2 years ago at this time the wheels were off and last year we were so short handed. We are in a better position today than we were at this time either of the last two years and I liked the way they turned out.

Bonnie comeback really had nothing to do with the UD missed layups. Bonnies did not make their move until the 11:23 mark of the 2nd half as it was still a 25 point UD lead which makes it all the more unbelievable...So in almost 9 minutes of action they lost just 2 points off the halftime lead and 6 off their largest lead which was at around the 13 minute mark..
I've always said, and seen, that 10-12 points can get shaved off a lead in 2 minutes........Once you get that teams lead under 15 then they start feeling it and start playing the shot clock to the max instead of attacking especially with 7-8 minutes left in the game..

Agree that the bottom line and time it didn't, but those few missed buckets would have put the game even further out of reach and STB at a mental and realistic disadvantage to start the half. STB came into that second half after receiving the "It's zero zero guys, go out there and win the second half". Had UD put them down 6-0 to start the second half, I think you see a different second half flyer team as well as a different STB team.

agree the layups weren't directly attributable to the comeback, but if we made those, i think it would have really deflated SBU and changed the complete tenor of the game - it was our opportunity to really put it away and we didn't. SBU would have been in desperation mode before the under 16 timeout. us missing those allowed them to settle down a bit - and probably tightened UD up a bit. obviously that is only speculation, but i feel it did impact the dynamics of the half. It is something to be concerned about but i'm not too worried. it still is a good road win against a team that is right next to Vanderbilt in the RPI and in a place that is not the easiest place to play. Nice to have these wake up calls and still come away with the victory!

Hard to say as the "ease-up/ take the foot off the pedal" Flyers may have even done that very same thing sooner but just saying those 3-4 layups (and not all those were simple/gimme with nobody around) all happened in the first 2 minutes, yet, almost another 7 minutes expired before life came into STB and they made their move......Had UD simply hit a couple FT's and/or Scoochie doesn't fire a 3 up with 28 seconds on the shot clock at the 6 minute mark with UD up 17 then anyone of those things possibly keep it at a double digit lead and all the contributing factors discussed here put this game away much earlier..

I think St B just started to play better, pressed UD and caused trouble, and UD couldn't maintain the high success rate from the first half. That combo spelled many more opportunities for St B. Plus, they are a good team, much better than what we saw in the first half. This should have been a closer game for 40 minutes
