Original and Print Art of UD's BBall Program

Fellow Priders: For the past year I have been working with the Dayton Society of Artists (DSA) and the UD Bookstore on a project we call "The Icons of UD Basketball." Although we intend to do many more in the future, we initiated our program with five men involved in the program today, all of whom have had a huge impact on UD basketball over the last 15 years. The DSA and its artists, including some from outside of the area, have created some compelling original art on Nate Green, Keith Waleskowski, Brooks Hall, Bucky Bockhorn, and band leader Dr. Willie Morris. The original artwork will be given to these five greats for their own use, or they can auction them off with the proceeds going to UD. The UD Bookstore is cooperating with the DSA to produce posters and prints of the five pieces of original art. These will make wonderful additions to any Prider's man cave or sports room. All profits go to UD.

If you wish to view the wonderful artwork of these five UD greats, they will be on display at the Dayton Society of Artist's gallery, 48 South High Street, in Dayton's historic Saint Ann's Hill District. The gallery may be visited beginning this Friday, September 6, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. There is no charge. Additionally, the DSA gallery will be displaying the icons from 12 Noon to 5:00 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays through October 12th. The gallery will also be open to the public on the first Friday of October (October 4) from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Stop by the DSA gallery and check out some cool artwork of five of UD's icons. More icons will be initiated in the future, including players from the women's team. Thanks!

	Bucky Bockhorn ARLEN 'BUCKY' BOCKHORN Known as "The Legend", Bockhorn played basketball for Tom Blackburn in the 1950s and went on to a career in the NBA. Tabbed NBA Rookie of the Year in his first season, he also played alongside Oscar Robertson for the now-defunct Cincinnati Royals. Buckhorn has been the color man for UD basketball games for years and teams with play-by-play announcer Larry Hansgen on NewsTalk Radio 1290AM and 95.7FM.

I love Nate, but Nate Green?

We had to start with those gentlemen who are already part of the UD basketball program. We have a Phase 2 that we are discussing that involves Johnny Davis, Chris Wright, Don Donoher, Larry Hansgen, and Justine Raterman. Getting in touch with these people to get their permission is quite a challenge.

	Chris Wright CHRIS WRIGHT 6-8 225lb | Trotwood Madison, HS (OH) A10 All Rookie Team. Preseason 2008 2nd Team All A10. Member of the UD Flight Club with a 40+ inch vertical leap. Consensus Top-75 national recruit. Uncle is former Flyer J.D. Grigsby. Nickname is Top Flyght. CAREER STATS 2007-08 10.4ppg 5.7rpg

	Don Donoher DON DONOHER Legendary Flyer men's basketball coach who guided Dayton to 435 victories in 25 seasons (1964-1989) including the 1967 NCAA Runner-Up. Took over the program after the passing of Tom Blackburn and earned many NCAA and NIT bids over his career, including five Sweet-16s, one Elite Eight appearance, and the 1968 NIT Championship. Groomed All-Americans Don May and Jim Paxson, along with all-time leading scorer Roosevelt Chapman. Coached UD as they joined conference affiliation for the first time (Midwest Collegiate). A graduate of UD, Donoher played for Blackburn and credits much of his coaching success to his mentor's teachings: defense, ball protection, patience, and unselfishness.

	Larry Hansgen LARRY HANSGEN The long-time voice of the Flyers on NewsTalk Radio WHIO, Larry Hansgen provides play-by-play for all University of Dayton men's basketball and football games. Hansgen also serves as News Director for WHIO 1290 AM and 95.7 FM.
