MSU has had enough of Dayton
Interesting article. MSU will not be scheduling us anytime soon.

Coach Ben Howland:
Howland knew the Bulldogs would have a tough time at UD Arena. After a pair of close wins over the Flyers the last two seasons, he told his counterpart during the postgame handshake that he'd had enough.
"I was really questioning what I was thinking by scheduling Dayton," Howland said. "I told him when I shook his hand that we're not playing them anymore."
---------------
And that's how scheduling goes for Dayton University.

Yep. He knows that, if that game would have been played next year instead of this year, MSU loses that game by 7 instead of the other way around. And because the name on the front of the opposing jersey is Dayton instead of Duke or Villanova, he’s not going to risk a loss. Sort of like losing a street fight to a computer nerd, even though said computer nerd is a black belt in Tae Kwan Do. Dude is still a computer nerd.

And why would they. With all the conferences going to 20 games, they can all schedule 7 cupcakes, play in 1 exempt tournament, and then get all the q1 and q2 games they need in conference. The days of most of these teams scheduling teams like UD are over.

I fear we have seen the last non con top 25 team ever at the arena, at least as long as we are in the A-10
Heck, the direction the A-10 is going, we may have seen our last top 25 team ever, regardless of if a conference foe or not

I suspect Howland meant it as a complement, but what a B5 Freudian slip.

This is exactly why the new agreement with the Mountain West makes so much sense and is so important. The A10 should also look to do this with the AAC. Outside of that, these are the teams (the top ones, anyway) that UD needs to focus on scheduling H/H more than a middling P5 team.
BTW, I rewatched last year's Miss St game earlier in the week and was convinced we would win this time around. Had the 7-point lead late and should have wrapped it up. But like Mikesell said this team needs to learn how to finish the last 4 minutes of a game. I just can't see this Miss St team being ranked come March. But they'll probably work their way into The Dance riding the coat tails of the conference elite even as they finish 9-9 or 8-10.
