Golden Friday Night Lights Award - URI
Nice win...I know I wasn't the only King expecting URI to toss in some cr*ppy 25' at the buzzer to beat us...so let's celebrate the 'W' and head into the weekend with a smile and a beer.
But vote for your FNL Award winner first.
Go Flyers!
King Rollo....OUT!

KP doesn't deserve to be on that list for the simple reason if he had played somewhat disciplined in the first half, this would never have been close. Happy Birthday anyhow KP.

On prior experience, you just guaranteed ClaytonFlyerFan will vote for anyone but Scooch.....
Disclaimer: CFF knows Scooch was the best player, but he detests being told how to vote. i know from previous scoldings.

Heck, I guarantee had he put Cooke's name up there, there's at least one member that would've voted for him.

I am wondering if either Rollo has not voted yet, or if he actually voted for someone other than KP ? At least KP had a rebound this game, which makes him eligible to be voted on.

Scoochie was absolute Mr. Clutch throughout the game. He had 10 points in the first half that kept us in the game and then carried us through the second half, including at the end. This was one of his best games as a Flyer.

So Ryan Perryman got 120 of Rollo's 120 votes in his career?

I think this was his absolute best game as a Flyer. The importance of the game made it so.

Yes. In my opinion we are back on the right side of the bubble with this win. All about winning out at home and not losing to any sub 100's on the road now. Going in to Selection Sunday if we have 24,25 or 26 wins with a high RPI and a decent SOS that should cancel out the lack of a marquee win in the non-conference

Not to be a Debbie Downer, but I was just looking at the teams we have left to play and their RPI's. Our strength of schedule can only go down from this point forward, thus our RPI will suffer as well. We have 5 games left against RPI of 193 or higher.

Okay, someone man up and tell us who you are that kept Scooch from a shutout in his career game. Kyle was great, yes I get it, but tonight was a slam dunk for Scooch. Reveal yourself.

Scoochie's and Kyle's defense kept us in the game. Scoochie's offense won the game.

I have never let that stop me; but I voted for Scoooochhiiiieee Smith.
Flyers need to run the laydown clear-out play for Schoochie more often; like a lot more often; and that would really open up Cooke, Miller, Mikesell, XWilliams, and Kyle, behind the arch. That would also lead to more dump-down plays to Ryan Mikesell collapsing from the far corner, resulting in layups and freethrows. When you have a point guard like Schooch, you gotta ride him like the girl who brought you to the dance.
Personally, I really didn't fell like UD had a very good offensive performance. Rhody caused a little bit of that problem, but not that much. Still a high amount of uncertainty in terms of philosophy, strategy, on the offensive end. The Flyers are a tweak or two from being virtually un-guardable; but you cant be missing free throws. Modest improvement from the charity stripe, and two or three more three pointers, and UD hits 80 points against one of the country's better teams.
No Charles Cooke, and Flyers Score 90; and no Charles Cooke, and then Scooch finally goes off!?!?!?!?! HUUMMMMM???
Maybe Cooke should rest up another game or two.

Perhaps, but you don't know about Saint Mary's (they might beat Gonzaga); vandy, Nebraska, New Mexico, Northwestern, et al. Also, you can't say for sure how your scheduling partners within conference are going to perform.
Or you could draw and A10 tourney where you play two upper RPI teams, prior to getting to the final.
But you point is a concern. Just might not be the whole story.

Yes, and the coaching staff needs to watch some 1990 Negele Knight film, and mimic it with play calling.
Although, that's looking past Brian Roberts. Granted he was forced to play the point, but UD was much better with him at the point. If he had not played the point in college, I doubt he would have developed the same offensively, and thus likely not had the same NBA career.

I don't like the strategy of relying on SS to go 1:1 so much. It happened last night because the refs decided that every other play we ran was a foul or traveling, so SS basically said "screw this, I know I can avoid the charge so at least I'll get a shot off."
It's a little like running a certain play at a key time in the game. If you run it every time down it's not effective. You save it for when you need a bucket. It's effective because the other players are thinking about the great ball movement on every play before that.

I am willing to bet multiple adult beverages on our strength of schedule not being at or above the 28 we sit at as of this typing. Wild guess best we can do is low 40's even with the teams you mentioned all kicking some butt from here on out. I fear 50+ Too much dead weight in our own conference. I base my prediction strictly on my gut feeling, as I have not looked at whatever websites that do such predictions.

The 0 rebound performance last game has placed Sir Kendall on the Royal hot seat and until he gives me a double-digit rebounding performance, he's going to stay there.
So let it be written.
So let it be done.

Scooch gets the game ball.
Kyle was awesome last night in every phase. I still recall his HS Coach saying that when Kyle is motivated, he is a one-man gang. He is so perceptive, quick, savvy, cunning, and disruptive on defense. When an opponent shoots, if he really wants the rebound he is up on the board waiting for it.
Unfortunately all that happened on a career night by Scoochie against a tough team which gave us a win we desperately needed.

Agreed SDF. I remember when we played Gonzaga in Hawaii...Kyle got the ball at the top of the key, saw a lane and drove straight through stunned defenders for a monster dunk that sent an indelible message. That told me all I need to know about Kyle--tough, fearless baller.
I love the character Scooch, Kyle, and KP have brought this team. We rightly give Archie props for the Flyers' scrappy attitude, but the turning point was recruiting these three. Being on the cusp of a school record four straight NCAA appearances is this class' legacy and they should and will be remembered among the pantheon of great Flyer classes.

Best Game As a Flyer
Scoochie was his very best last night against the top contender for the A-10. This was better than his game winning performance against Iowa in Orlando Florida.
