B-Rob HOF Induction on Saturday
Brian Roberts is going to be inducted into the UD Hall of Fame during the St. Bonaventure game on Saturday. The Hornets are off this weekend due to the All-Star break and he will be there in person. Best pure scorer I've seen in a Flyers uniform. My favorite two memories of him are the Pitt game at UD and the comeback vs. Miami at Millet Hall.

Well deserved. I wasn't at the Pitt game, but my Dad and Mom were. My Dad played for UD and he has been to a very large number of games and he said that Pitt game is the loudest he's ever heard the Arena. I mean, we blew them out so bad. I too still watch that YouTube video of that game over and over. Roberts was unconscious!

I remember two things about that Pitt game...
1) Wind storm. The reply on TV was horrible, all because of tremendous winds affecting the signal.
2) I was late due to work, and got there just 1~2 minutes after tip time. I opened the doors to hand ticket to usher and was blown away. The noise and buzz was undeniable, incredible, etc. How ever you describe it, it was unlike ANYTHING I have experience since. And that was just the start. Once BRob started making shots, wow. Just wow.

Pitt game was ridiculous. The Arena was well lubed up going into that game and the crowd was crazy.

Loudest I've ever heard the arena. I remember leaving the game with no voice and feeling like I had played in the game, I was emotionally drained from all of the screaming.
Will always remember one of the refs made a ball call right before a timeout and during the entire TV timeout the Flyer faithful booed him.
Would love to see a full replay of that game.

I remember being in Nashville trying to watch the game, and the game that was on ESPN before went into 2 or 3 overtimes and it didn't cut over to the UD game until about 3 minutes left in the first half. I was ****ed!

What I remember the most about the Pitt was the end of the game. The Pitt players quit. Dixon called a timeout after UD out hustled them on a play late game. The players were ready to leave the arena and the game was not over.
Anyone else remember that sequence? Seems to me it was about 4-6 minutes left in the game. UD had a fast break hustled down court, missed the shot and tipped it in while the Pitt players stood there. Dixon was livid. It was embarrassing for Pitt.

I happened to be in town for the Pitt game and I winged it and got 2 tickets for my son and me in the parking lot. My daughter, to his day, gives me crap for not bringing her (even though she was 9).

As an aside my Hockey Coach, Walt DeAnna will be inducted into the Hall of Fame too. A great man who got me to come to Dayton in 1967. 50 years later I can honestly say my life has been great because of him.
Back to basketball Watching Brian Roberts vs Pitt was one of the greatest experiences I've had as a fan at UD

I went to HS with Walt's daughter's and my senior year roommate married one....and he later became the UD hockey coach. Glad to see Walt finally get honored. It's long overdue.

I attended many hockey games at Hara, as my brother Paul ('75) played. Always great fun to watch. Walt had an affect on my brother's love of hockey, as he still plays in a St. Louis league at age 63. Walt is truly a UD all-time great!

Long overdue honor for Walt. I covered the hockey team four years for Flyer News and dealt with Walt many, many times. Always first class. A few of my housemates played hockey. More than 100 former players returned for the induction. That says a lot.

Pretty good ovation for B-Rob. Not quite as loud as I'd imagined. I stopped screaming for a couple seconds to gauge the crowd and I thought it would be louder in my section. Great crowd today.

Disappointed Christ Wright didn't get a standing O when they put him on the screen...I stood and clapped and I am pretty sure everyone around me wondered what the hell I was doing...UD needs to put a graphic on the screen or have the announcer welcome former players back to the Arena at the beginning of a timeout.
Something as simple as a camera shot of the former player and the announcer states "Please give a warm welcome to former Flyer XXXXXXX......"....half the sweaters get confused when a former player doesn't have his name tattooed on the back of his shirt.

I did the same and people asked me who it was. Part of the problem was he was wearing a ball cap. But you are correct, they either need a graphic or an announcement.
There was no announcement during the first half that HOF would be at half-time. The pictures of the inductees were in the program, but should have been on the cover. Nothing about HOF on the cover. I doubt if half the people there even knew it was going to take place.

They didn't mention the seniors becoming the all-time winning class either... place would have went bonkers!

They did put the graphic about it up on the video board during one of the TV timeouts, but no announcement accompanied it.

If you watch what people do as soon as a media timeout occurs you would understand why there is not as much applause as you would like, and it wouldn't matter if they captioned the video boards. A majority of people are looking at their phones, headed to get a beer, or going to the bathroom.
If UD wants to honor people they need to make an announcement very early about when it is going to occur. Like when they want to honor the 1967 national runner ups they need to tell people which timeout it is going to be. If they don't people will be doing other things. Some of you will say people should be more respectful but that is not the world we live in today. You have to let people know if you are planning something special so they will observe it.

Agree...people are creatures of habit...especially at UD games...I know when I must get up and get to where I'm going if I need to hit the head and grab a beer at the half...I better get up at a stoppage in play sometime from the under 4 to 2 minutes or I will never make it up and back.
Advanced warning would be nice, but unfortunately media timeouts are on a strict time schedule...the videoboards are dedicated for much of the timeout to marketing demands...and those clients pay some hefty dollars...buddy of mine told me what his business pays to do some promoting and my jaw hit the floor. Everything is planned and timed out pretty good, not leaving a whole bunch of room for dedicated filler letting people know what is going on. Could it be done? Yes. We have a great gameday experience, and there are just a few minor adjustments that may make a few people happy, while other adjustments may not be favorable for some.
UD listens and I think they take good suggestions to heart...the unfortunate part is that the the complaints that roll in are sometimes so trivial you have to laugh...my section never gets pizza...balls and t-shirts are never thrown to the back row of the 400's, etc...
We are spoiled...UD does a great job...few tweaks here and there work at times...sometimes they don't.

When Lavance Field got hurt during the game and Pitt had earlier in the season lost a key player and with foul trouble (Blair) the Pitt teamed visibly slumped at that point in the game. This a good lesson learned for our team that it must be "next Man up" even if we have foul trouble or other adversities.
