There isn't a SLU player who can guard Cooke. He could go for 30 without too much effort.

Crosby with a jacked up 3 with 12 seconds left on the shot clock. Run some offense JC!
This is not a positive post about JC. You guys should still thank me.

Love the TV guys talking about Travis Ford and all his D1 transfers on his bench. He won 2-3 on the road in total over his last 2 years at Oklahoma State.

Since we always play St. Louis twice a season, I am hoping all those tranfers win 10 + on the road next year. I would much rather twice a year beat a 49 rpi team than a 249 rpi team

Through 26 minutes I am almost as proud of Dayton as I was Friday. How many times have we watched a humming Dayton team go on the road and **** away a game against a team that would struggle in your local Y? Not tonight...they're stone-cold killers tonight.

Darrell is back to just jacking up 3s and I love it. He's stopped trying to waste time driving and now he's got his confidence back.
Also great roll and finish by Cunningham there.
Travis Ford is ****ED!

In a couple years SLU will be better. Besides those transfers he has at least 1 top 100 recruit on the way. This debacle is Jim Crews fault.

Safely on my couch. I just like to make sure people notice my positive Crosby posts so that when I eviscerate him in other games they don't red pip me for always being negative about him.

Help defense underneath has been improving steadily. Need to take a few charges. Agbeko is spinning out of control and not paying for it.

There is 7:49 left. You don't want to give up anything until 4 or 5 minutes left. Then you can left the non-rotation guys play. The bigger this win is the better it is for the computer numbers.

Dayton walked into this arena, put their briefcases and messenger bags on the table, and just took care of business. Hopefully payroll promptly processes the expense forms.

I saw a few guys say that some of the new metrics today actually pay attention to point spread in addition to wins & losses. So Archie can't afford to let the score get too close for fear of dropping from, say, a 7-seed to a 9-seed. Sucks, but it's the new reality.

Crosby with 5 pts on 2-5 shooting, 2 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 turnovers (in the last 60 seconds). He not only played good, he played very good. Of course as some guys on here would say, StL has no D1 players.

That is twice against StL we did almost nothing wrong. Great play by all our guys. We had only 3 turnovers in the last 32 minutes. We had 10 steals and shot well from everywhere. Great TEAM offense and defense.
Next year it will be different competition from StL, but enjoy the moment.

We had 30 assists on 37 baskets against Duquesne this year, and 26 on 34 against VMI this year.
The 30 assists in a game (Duquesne) tied for 3rd best all-time for a Flyers team. (Since 00-01, these 3 games, and a 1/2002 game against Duquesne (27) are the only ones with at least 26 assists.)

This game had Bucky in such a good mood that when they returned from commercial, sometime during the 2nd half, he was singing the Budweiser song, "When You Say Bud". He said "the band was playing it and folks, I'm just happy" (or something close to that).

I usually don't participate in the game thread during the game. I have enough texts going back and forth with brother and friends that I don't look at the thread until after the game.
It may have been bush by Ford but I was glad to see it. I an surprised more teams don't press Crosby that way. I think that experience can only help him.

Don't agree at all, as coach said after the game that regardless of the score there are always teaching moments.
One could say the same about Archie. Leading 17-2 a billikin put the ball up the hoop from underneath and the ball rolled off. There were 3 UD players and 1 billikin and he somewhow took the ball away from the 3 flyers and put it back for SLU second score of the game. Thought Archie was going to get a T as he came out on the floor and went into a tirade. He was so furious that the billikin took the ball away and scored
Have often heard coaches say regardless of the score there are teaching moments throughout a game. In one game trailing by 30 points the coach called a time out with less than a minute left in the game. He wanted to try a play they had worked on in practice many time and felt it would be a great time to try it against another really good opponent.
So coaches see opportunities that we as fans don't. Thats why the get the $$$ they do.

Sat with some SLU fans who heckled me before the game that they were going to take the flyers down......serious, not really but it was there hype before the storm.
When the flyers came out to start the game, one friend stated, My gawd look how physical Dayton looks compared to our players. Then echoed, this will be a blow out.
Obviously they were quite impressed with UD. Howerer there was one SLU fan sitting off to our right who shouted for me to hear it, nothing good has ever come out of Dayton. I then quite politely informed him that the president of SLU is from Dayton and was Provost officer at UD for like 25 years. He googled it and was shocked. Thought we only hired Jesuits or from Jesuit schools, came he reply.
All in all it was a good game and my SLU friends wold go crazy like many fans did when SLU would score. Biggest cheer of the night was right after SLU scored their first basket like some 6 minutes into the game.
Glad I got to see history in the making and able to see the subs and Joey who got a big cheer from UD fans play in mop up time. Actually thought JC and the other subs looked pretty good for the most part. JC didn't seem to rush his play making and handled the press quite well.
Josh will make a big impact on the rest of the season and post season.

If there is a bigger UD fan west of the great Mississippi than Avid Flyer I haven't heard of or met them. VB, women's BB, men's BB...you name it, he's on it. I'm royally glad you were there and love the back-and-forth banter between you and the ill-informed St. Louis fans. Avid 1. St. Louis 0.
ALL Hail Sir Avid Flyer!

Man, I can't imagine how rough life must be when you have to travel everywhere by horse and buggy, use a can opener to open your beer, and wait for cashiers to hand write a bill of sale for every purchase you make.

I agree that there are always teaching points to be had even that late in the game. I should have added to my comment that because of the press that late in the game there was no way Archie was going to put Bonsu or any of the other walkons in which everybody in the thread was calling for at that time. I was actually fine with SLU pressing up until about the 1:15 mark when if there was no press I actually think Archie would have put a couple more walkons in.

BTW the new billikin mascot is as cheap an outfit as I've seen. Basically sweat pants with tshirt oversized boots and a cheaply made head piece. Looks closer to a hollween outfit than a MaScot for a major U. The old one was a complete outfit from head to toe.

Speaking with my SLU friends at half the NBE topic came up and surprisingly they said they would rather go back to the Missouri Valley than the NBE.
In second half they were a riot, yelling and screaming every time SLU scored, we've got this, just 11 more stops and we're back. Fun people.

I think re the play in question (1 billikin, 3 flyers) Archie was livid at the refs, not his players. Larry and Bucky were incredulous that an over-the-back foul wasn't called on that play.

Over-the-back has been legal for 10-15 years...I doubt Larry or Bucky know that. Trust me, no one else does either.

Don't disagree...in fact I asked Archie about it a few weeks ago at a Mon night Frickers show. Archie even said he doesn't understand the interpretation or implementation of the rule. Regardless, Larry and Bucky were seated next to Flyers' bench last night and simply relaying to listeners Archie's beef.

I assume the rule reads the same for NFS/ OHSAA games are basically the same as for NCAA, right?
Simple way a HS referee explained it to a few upset fans a few weeks ago, was that if the player who had position for the rebound had actually jumped up for the rebound, instead of just standing there, there would have been contact which would have lead to the foul, or the "over the back" call they were all screaming for? Does referee Rollo agree with this simple explanation?

'Contact' isn't the issue...'displacement' is the issue. If player A is behind/next to Player B, and A's efforts to grab a rebound include 'displacing' B who is in position to get the rebound, then it's a foul. As I tell players and coaches, 'basketball is a contact sport'.
