Dressing Pollard
If Pollard is at all hypothetically coming back, and even if he is not, UD should be dressing him for games; and so long as there is no real chance of additional injury, they should have him run lightly through warm-ups. I say this because, if you are hoping to send a message to the NCAA SELECTION COMMITTEE, or any upcoming opponent, then you better show them something prior to the A10 tournament, or the NCAA will already conclude that Pollard will not and can not return.

With our luck he'd roll an ankle in layup drills.
Back when ball-boys were ball-boys, allowed on the court and would rebound and pass to player in pregame and halftime warm-ups, my oldest son (5th grader) rebounded a ball and passed it to Chris Alvarez who just happened to look away....but the ball was already in the air and POW the pass hit him square in the face. Sh*t happens...which is why my-man Pollard is better off on the bench, out of harm's way.

Upon Pierre's return didn't he sit on the bench a couple of games in street clothes? I recall Archie saying he wouldn't be in uniform so the coaches won't be tempted with throwing him in there without him being fully evaluated. I bet the same is true as to why Pollard has been on the bench in street clothes as to avoid that same temptation and potentially making the injury worse.

Pierre didn't play against Miami (Ohio), his first game available after suspension.
He didn't start the next 2 games, but played 33 and 34 minutes. And since he wasn't around for the "let's check out what the freshman offer during OOC" timeframe, he has the highest per-game minute average at 33.4.

Without DD in the lineup, I'm glad KP is ready to go. Every game is important now, and even limited minutes from KP can lift the team out of its funk And get us back on track.

I asked Archie that after the game on Saturday. His reply:
“We’ll see how he is tomorrow. Part of it is his recovery, what’s he feel like, etc. He’s available for the rest of the season unless something in the next couple of days sets him back. I expect him to be pretty sore.”

Pollard starting dragging his leg early in the second half and came out. At the time he was barely even bending it. He was on the bench for a while with a heat pack on his knee and then came back in. Just be prepared for more coach speak from Archie if Kendall is able to play Saturday which I tend to think is very iffy at this point.

play him Saturday, win and then sit him during the A10 tourney. Saturday is a better matchup for Steve because Cos is not a threat on the perimeter.

Interesting idea. If we win Saturday then it would seem to be a great idea, if we lose not so much.

Last night was adrenaline...today it's either (1) pain or (2) soreness.
Let's hope it's (2).

i hear you, but i think it was worth it. it was most assuredly a "all hands on deck" game with the way they've been playing, and an important win for the guys. the big for Archie is to get Steve and sam settled down a little to give us some quality minutes and take the pressure off. Steve did it earlier and Miller has shown the ability to do more (@ URI). But a win last night was a big deal.

Yes, as he quoted in the DDN.
“I’ll regroup and get ready to practice tomorrow and be ready to go Saturday,” Pollard said. “At the beginning of the game, I tweaked it a few times. I was good, but I just sat out a few possessions and got back in there.”

I think most of us would be able to overcome even a large amount pain in our knees and tweet a lot.

That just shows how much Kendall has learned from Archie. He knows exactly the right thing to say to the media, and it's not like he's going to come out and say his knee is hurting because he is too tough for that.

He also knows that the medical staff were holding him back and he wants to play. He doesn't want to say anything that they will use to keep him from playing.

Was at the game. It was very obvious that Pollard was very hurt in the second half. He was dragging the leg, but stayed in for his defense. Pollard could not elevate, and his speed was gone. What a gutsy performance. Most others would have sat, but he played because we needed him on defense. Richmond's two bigs scored 52 pts, while their outside shooting was pathetic. No one stopped them, but a hurt Pollard was our best bet.

Pollard is a Hero
for his playing through pain. At less than 80% he can out play several other guys on our bench. He is a winner and a hero.

Kendall is going to have to figure out how to be effective at less than 100%. There was an improvement in that between Saturday and last night. He doesn't need to score a bunch, just be able to defend and rebound. Saturdays matchup with Cox could allow Steve to play more minutes

Cox will manhandle our freshman centers. They don't have the muscle or footwork to combat big Mo. He isn't a big scorer or threat on the blocks but he impacts games on the glass and in the paint.

Cut me, Mick
With so much on the line vs VCU, I wonder how much cortisone a 6'6" 240 lb man can take?

Supposedly Mo was seen limping towards the end of VCU's last game. Maybe he and KP can neutralize each other's gimpiness.

Any update on if Pollard practiced yesterday or today? I still think the best way to handle this is to play Pollard on Saturday and hopefully get the W to lock us into a solid seed for the NCAA's. From there, rest him all week and shut him down for the A10 tournament, possibly playing him just on Friday in the first game if he's feeling right. Thoughts?

My guess is they were off and didn't practice yesterday. I am also positive that Archie(or anyone in the program) is not going to give any information out besides the standard line we've heard for a month. "Kendall's knee hurts, but we think he'll be available" We will find out if he's is going to play or not at about 6:30 Saturday night when Jablonski or Schwade tweets whether or not Kendall is warming up. Until that time it's all speculation and rumor.
I agree completely with your A10 tournament plan though. Hopefully he plays against VCU and then shut him down or play 1 game in the A10 tournament.

This may be true and I hope it is, but does anybody really think Archie would actually say anything if Kendall was really hurting and unable to play? I know I wouldn't if I were Archie.

Archie would be silent or would say it is still day to day if Pollard was hurting. Normally, if there is good news to report, he would report it because he is excited. You never know about a Belichikian mind. I like how he talks and holds his cards close to the vest. I like how Pollard has handled the situation too.

Archie says he "twinged his knee" Tuesday. Doesn't sound like it was related to the bone bruise. Will be ready to go!

NO Doubt! He and Kyle bring us something we haven't had here at UD.
NY, ChiTown, Canada and Newark i believe for Cooke. Starters represent more amazing areas that Archie has recruited from than our last Coach was able to
reach out to.

Archie is obviously a great coach and recruiter and I hope he stays for a long time. However I don't think recruiting was our last coaches issue. I agree he wasn't a great in-game coach but let's give credit where credit is due, Gregory had a good record as a recruiter when he was at UD.

I think AM recruits a different type of BB player- usually athletic as BGs recruits were but generally better shooters. The other differences already noted is player development- to which AM and staff seem to be much better at doing.

Lots of coaches recruit different types of players than AM but doesn't mean they're not good recruiters. Player development is a different story than recruiting. I still contend BG was a good recruiter.

That;s highly arguable.
Jacksonvillle is not a hotbed of superior high school players.
We got Charles Little of Tennessee - who averaged like 28 points and 17 boards in high school.
That didn't translate to college (and as was said players weren't fully developed).
marcus Johnson , solid recruit. Chris Wright , solid recruit.
Brian Roberts, turned out to be his best.
Jim Binnie - from Iowa... didn't work out. Searcy.....
When you are recruiting Baltimore/DC, NY City, Chicago, regularly and getting them - you are in a higher echelon.
End of story ~

Three guys that played in the NBA isn't too bad. I'm not saying he hit on every player but overall he had a pretty good track record when it came to recruiting. And don't forget he also recruited LaDonte Henton who turned out to be a great college basketball player but decommitted once BG left for GT.

I think it is fairly obvious Dyshawn Pierre, Charles Cooke and Scoochie Smith are our best players.
I also think Kendall Pollard and Kyle Davis are our two MOST IMPORTANT players. They bring swagger, confidence and toughness to this team.
Exhibit A: Kendall flexing his biceps after his And 1 baskets
Exhibit B: Kyle seemingly making every basket in transition off a turnover.
Exhibit C: Kyle constantly flapping his gums and smiling.

While I don't know if Pollard will play (sounds like he will) the one thing I am almost certain of is that he had not practiced. I doubt he practices at all until next season. They aren't going to risk his last basketball activity of the year being in practice.

Agreed. Jordan didnt practice much at the end of the year last year. He had no problem rubbing off multiple screens to drill that dagger 3 against Boise. No practice can be a blessing in disguise. Kendall has gonads made of reinforced Titanium, he aint letting his guys down either

Brian Gregory indeed was a good recruiter. Two of his recruits are in the NBA and he had others who have had international careers. He was also a very good defensive coach.

Jablonski tweeted a couple days ago he is playing. Someone linked it in another thread (or on this one) if you care to search.
Archie has stated multiple times he is a go.
After last years Selection Sunday fiasco we need him as long as he can go
