Since we went to the zone last in the first half, they are shooting lights out.
I guess we will not sub in the second half.

I’m not going to say the calls are completely against the Flyers. But the replay on that offensive rebound by Trey confirms it: worst rebounding-related call I’ve seen so far this season.

12+ minutes out of our starters is starting to show on the boards. Getting flat footed. Evidently, Kostas and XW cannot help there.

Amazing how this board lights up when the Flyers are in the middle of a bad stretch.
When they are making plays and somewhat resemble the makings of a decent team.... stone silence.

Are you and CoffeeCan together?
Also, I picked a heluva weekend to get the flu. The only alcohol I can allow myself to have comes in a bottle marked “Ny-Quil”.

Not much to be happy about, but, I am pleased that Kostas sat since his outburst.

UD is running out of gas at end of halves too often. This a big sign of tired players and no bench

We may finish last in the A10. Our worst game thus far. No skill and no heart and no hustle.

Totally out coached.
What is Kostas and XW's roles on this team? Only two substitutions in 20 minutes.
Is this the "next level" of Dayton Basketball?

Blame it all on the coach, but they played a walk on for a short time today. The reserves are all playing like walk ons. Could not tell the difference. You can’t beat one of worst teams in A10 with walk on talent.
DD and Josh are trying to do it all.

Kostas role should be to keep a seat warm on the bench until he grows up.

Just want to see improvement over the course of the year. Sights need to be set on the A10 Tournament. A good start would be Kostas zipping his lip.

Agree. Could see this coming easily. When our only sub is Sobvoda, and Kostas and XW can't get. Into the game, what can we expect?
This is so discouraging, what part of this team is improving? What commitment do the coaches have to developing the players they have today?

What is the deal on Williams. Some have said he is injured, but is that a guess? I have seen no cofirmation of an injury. Does not make sense that Matej is playing so much.

The “no hustle” part is what’s most concerning to me. I saw (I think it was) X launch a 3 in the first half, and he didn’t follow his shot. Then, near the end, I saw DD miss a shot, and instead of fighting for the rebound, he pouted about it. That’s gotta change if this year’s squad is try to finish in the top half of the league this year.

I'm too busy drinking right now to type that much right now.
But there is no way UD should lose to that Duquesne team.

Strange that Kostas stayed in after his tantrum but never played the second half. Wonder if there were words at halftime?

Conditioning issues
Poor coaching and substitutions

Who's he gonna sub in? Ryan Perryman?
He probably sat Kostas in the second half to send him a msg to get his brain in sync with his composure. I would have hoped for nothing less.
I have my own gripes with some of the coaching, but My God did Archie leave Grant with one heck of a pickle. We are taking a butter knife to a gun fight every time we take the court. With an arm tied behind our back. We can argue about why our butter knife jabs arent as clean as they should be, but at some point we must also recognize the gun in the room.
Did we lose to an inferior team today? Im not convinced. Looked like two evenly matched teams to me. The more experienced team won the last 4 minutes -- as one would expect them to. We played about 7 guys. Four were true frosh. Throw in a walk-on. Dambrot should probably hold his head in shame for not pasting us by 25.

Radio guys said he’s been trying to come back from a back injury. Don’t know why he didn’t play more today, but back issues do tend to flare up time and again so it might have????
I will say we should score 70+ against DU and didn’t. Maybe it’s youth and inexperience that ails us. It certainly doesn’t help we can’t seem to get everyone healthy for any given game so we have to go with a short bench and so much youth. It’s going to be a long season and will come down to where we are mentally and improvement at the end. It won’t be easy to watch, but I hope the players stay with each other and keep working hard.

It was a freshman and guy that played one year at Coppin State making plays down the stretch for Duquesne.

The 21pts by grad student Butler transfer Castro-Caneddy meant something too. He would start for us. Lewis the sophomore started 31 games last year -- he was an A10 All Rookie -- something we don't have. We would also start for us. Williams the true frosh has already been named A10 ROW a few times -- again something our frosh can't claim.
Dukes have as much talent as we do -- at least in terms of bodies we played today. In a close game at home -- it favors them. Go 18-21 at the stripe while UD goes 9-17 and the better team won. I didnt see Dayton under-achieve. I saw us perform about up to our level of talent and execution and get beat by a team that played slightly above that level. Going in I figured a 1 in 4 chance of winning this. Probably sold them a bit short, but not having won a road game yet, I was not optimistic in the least.

Sorry, but I respectfully disagree. This was an easy one to see coming.
While Duquesne engaged it's team, we played basically six guys. In the first half, foul trouble forced CAG's hand. In the second half, it did not. Our guys got tired and flat footed. As UD ran out of gas, we couldn't hit a shot (0 FG in the last 5:33. Five minutes, thirty three seconds. In the last 3:58 of the first half, the only FG was Kosta's dunk. Nine minutes of game time, one FG.
Is there no other way to get through to Kostas than to bench him for an entire half?
My concern is that compared to the first 10 games, it's difficult to see progress. Isn't that where we can assess CAG? What is he doing with regard to XW? Doesn't the coach have some responsibility to work with a player to find out how he can maximize his talents to the benefit of the team? Is he effectively doing that by sitting Kostas?
Two final thoughts.
First, in the post game CAG used the terms "cards we were dealt". Hey, I don't like the roster position either, but the coach is the one who must rise above that attitude, and find a way to win with what he has. That kind of commentary cannot happen in public.
Second, regarding UD vs. Duquesne. Considering the past 10 years, facilities, fan base, and community support, how can we be happy with being on par with the basketball program? Pretty sure DU isn't sticking $70M+ into their arena. A coaching change should not result in reduced expectations. I don't think most of us are expecting a final four, however, I don't think we should settle for what we are experiencing right now.
