Jalen receiving deserved notice
Jalen is receiving notice and recognition. I would love to see Dayton have back to back All Americans.

Cliffs Notes version: Jalen is ranked 15th and the only other A10 player is Fatts at 21.

Jalen is probably the favorite at this point for A10 player of the year.

I think Jalen deserves all the recognition. He is the unsung hero of this past season. We know him and appreciate all that he did, but the national media was too infatuated with Obi to notice how good he was.
Next year he will be the captain of the ship, and his star will shine brighter. The key for him is not so much his own play, we know he will do great. The key will be how well others around him will play. If our returning players develop and improve, especially Jordy and Moo, and if one or two of the incoming freshmen surprise on the up side, we will be in the T25 again and Clutch will be a candidate for the A10 POY and possibly more.

But Rothstein said that Fatts was better than Jalen. Surely this can't be.

When did he say that?
To be fair, prior to the 1st matchup vs Rhody, it was fair to think that Fatts was in competition with Obi for A10 POY. Fatts and Rhody fell apart down the stretch, by season's end, there was little question that Jalen & Obi were the 2 best players in the A10, or at least most deserving of that recognition.

About 2/3 through the season he tweeted something silly about the Flyers would be a bigger favorite to win the National title if we swapped Russell for Jalen. It was ridiculous because Jalen was playing much better all around. He’s a better passer and shoots a much higher percentage.

That big man freshman for UMass, Tre Mitchell, was impressive too. I would think he will be in the running for A10 player of the year next year.

Not to mention Jalens team first attitude. Watching Fatts I get the impression it is all me me me.

Anyone see any draft boards that have Jalen getting drafted? I really would be bummed if he left.

Payton Prichard, Devon Dotson or Myles Powell are not even seen as first round picks. No mention of Jalen in the Top 100 on ESPN

Jalen is #15
That is pretty high. He may get an agent. He is coming off the best year in Dayton history.
His numbers were magnified by assisting the National POY. This may be his chance to to ball in the Association.

You mean in the G league or overseas? If he wants to play in the NBA he should come back and have another monster year without Obi. That's his only shot at playing in the Association. Anyone telling him different is lying and has ulterior motives.

Remember - While Obi was the player of the Year for ALL the major awards out of 1000's of players in D1. He still was only Co-MVP on a team of <13 players.

He doesn't need to have a monster year next year or really any better than this year stats-wise. The things he needs to improve on greatly regarding his NBA chances are ball-handling, getting quicker if that's possible, finishing at the rim better and just getting stronger.Jalen is not going to out-athlete many players as he's not the biggest at 6' 1", fastest or strongest.
He could certainly play at a very nice level overseas, improve and carve a niche similar, or even better, than Brian Roberts..

Jalen is listed at 6'1" at UD. This year the NBA changed their player height listing and no longer let teams list their own heights. Players were measured by the NBA in socks. A number of players "shrunk" so it would not be surprising for Jalen to be 6'0" in the NBA.
This year there are only 25 players 6' or shorter on NBA rosters. It's just so tough for someone of Jalen's size to make an NBA roster.

Does an NBA team need a back up point guard in case of injury, but can also come off the bench and hit 3s anytime during the game? This is Clutch. Can he make a career out of the ice running through his veins? NBA teams have specific role players...defenders, rebounders, etc. Crutcher could become a 3 pt sniper. His passing and ball handling plays as much a role as his shooting in that role.

I think if the staff thought that Crutcher was gone we'd see a flurry of guard offers

I love Jalen, and think he is (not “will be”, but “is”) one of the best guards in all of college basketball. That said, I would think NBA scouts would want to see his performance without a dominant stud like Obi there to catch lobs for highlight-reel dunks. For that reason (and for the value of his college degree), I think he should come back for his Senior year. Also, remember: he’s not even 21 years old yet.

Jalen's size will work against him. He is not tall or muscular. We will see how Payton Pritchard of Oregon fairs in the draft. Strong, but not tall, quick and can do it all.
With no pre-draft evaluations, the scouts will be saying, but what can he do without Obi?

The NBA is cartoonish. You need something to stand out to get drafted. He either needs to put on a LOT of muscle, get a LOT quicker, grow 6", have a 48" vertical, average 10 APG, or average 20+ PPG next year.
Or, go to the G league and prove it. Which he could do.

The numbers are just difficult. Over 3,000 college players every year. Only a handful make it to the NBA. Those numbers are getting less with international players.
Jalen is an outstanding and underrated college player. In my mind, he was much better for UD than Fatts Russell. UD shut down Russell twice. Yes, he got points, but his team floundered and he absent during when they could have stayed in the game. Meanwhile, Jalen seemed to step up at needed times. I am sure Russell did often for RI, but not against UD.
Having said that Jalen needs help and work to enter the NBA. Look at the travels of Scoochie.

Think his great year playing Tonto for the Lone Ranger got him bushels of deserved attention, so at least whatever he does, scouts will see it. But I agree, some metric has to stand out.
