Spread offense? Interesting. Conor just may run wild as we spread the field. Probably right for UD as our current QB options don't run like Will Bardo did.

We've been to many practices over the years. Stopped by on Tuesday for practice #1. No one kicked us out.

Church at 10:00
Pictures noon - 2:30
There will be no Flyers' Club sponsored tailgate following the pictures this year. Mutual decision by football coaching staff and Flyers' Club due to dwindling participation from players and families in recent years.

jmitch - thanks for the info
My wife and I were trying to figure this out from last year. I remember an intrasquad scrimmage (Sat evening?) and media day (Sunday?)
The lack of information disseminated to the parents is somewhat baffling.

I believe part of the problem is they rely on the kids to share the info. Well you see how well that works. I know the new person they have sending out the daily camp update is doing well at sharing that part. Now that would be a good time to let everyone (parents) know when the "festivities" start. By the way for any newbies, bring some money to media day. There is always extra equipment for sale, i.e. old jersey's helmets, extra suits, etc. at very reasonable prices.
I always enjoyed the brats and dogs afterwards, but the boy wanted a good meal by that time of the camp. Hopefully the TD club will take that savings and do something later in the year. How about that JMITCH? Is that a possibility? I know the one gathering is a bit pricey for the quality of soy burger and chips you get.

Daily camp updates? How can you get that update?
Kids (I'm guessing the football staff consider them grownups) sharing info?
Any help is appreciated

There is a scrimmage this Saturday night. I believe it starts at 7 pm. As noted, there is a mass and then the media day stuff on Sunday. My understanding is that Chambo has given the boys from 2-7 (or so) to hang out with their parents on Sunday following the Media Day festivities.
As for the daily camp updates, while I definitely appreciate them, I find that my mood is affected by whether or not my kid is mentioned. It's amazing how my wife and I hang on every word and over interpret every comment. I'm hoping I'm not the only one. Gotta go...today's update may be in my inbox.

Completely agree. I know that the time after picture day is probably the last time that you parents have with your sons. We are currently looking at several options to change how The Flyers' Club can support the football program and the other programs as well. I'll let you know if we come up with something.

My wife hyper over-analyzes every tiny piece of information that she receives so you are certainly not the only one. I just wish she would get off the 'world is ending' mode.

as a parent of a fifth year senior my advice on the daily practice notes is to read them for what they are...but put more more stock into what you can get out of your son or out of another player on the team that knows your son. it really doesn't matter (with apologies to Sarah and Coach Evans last year) until they run out onto the field for the first game.. For that matter how your bear cub performs during the scrimmage this Saturday (according to what mama and papa bear see) while its fun to see them playing again..well it doesn't matter either. we have just really enjoyed the team, the players and families the past four years and are clinging on to one more.
Go Flyers

Well said by MichFlyer, I could not agree more with his advice. All these young men come to UD as first team all conference, all district, all state, team captain, etc etc. The reality is that only 11 can play at a time and they are all very very good. It is not like HS where you have a couple of guys head and shoulders above the rest. When I played college ball, with the exception of a select few, it was very difficult to tell the talent difference between the first team guy and the third team guy! To this day, I am not sure how the coaches did it. There is an ultra fine line in many instances between the starters and the back ups. As MichFlyer stated, cheer on your son, cheer on the Flyers and sit back and watch your son grow as a man. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for you and your son, don't let it slip by without enjoying it! GO Dayton Flyers!

MichFlyer and PittFlyer: Thanks for the great perspective from parents of upperclassmen. Fortunately, I have always had pretty realistic expectations for my boys, so no matter the outcome I will definitely enjoy the ride and cheer on all of these fantastic young men. In fact, the primary message to my kid was to go to camp with the mindset of winning the starting job because even if you don't you will have "pushed" your teammates to be better as a result.

My only advice to my son is not to leave UD until he gets his Participation Trophy

A short article on Saturday's scrimmage: http://daytonflyers.com/news/2015/8/...819151606.aspx
Looks like the actual scrimmage starts at 7:30, but there will be warm-ups and some other activity likely starting at 7.
