Kendall and Steve

Read part of Sporting News article on Chris Bosh and his success (and the teams) when he is not on the floor with Whiteside. Logically it would seem that pairing Bosh and Whiteside would be a no-brainer but it turns out that the Heats point differential per 48 is 10 points higher when Bosh is at center.

I think the same issue is causing a lot of the offensive problems the team is having. Steve and Kendall do not fit together in the half court offense. My guess is that pairing either with Dyshawn will work much better.

For Kendall, Steve clogs in the interior leaving Kendall no room to operate on post ups and small gaps when driving. Dyshawn will allow the Flyers to space the floor giving Kendall room in the post and gaps to attack. Just like last year

For Steve there is a crowd in the paint when he is paired with Kendall. Kendall is not followed to the 3 point line leaving less room for Steve to operate in the post.

What this has caused is a lot of forced offense from Kendall that has resulted in poor offense for the Flyers in the half court. Kendalls ORtg has now dipped below 100(99) and ie the lowest of the starters, Steve has the next lowest at 102.

It will be interesting to see if pairing either with Dyshawn will greatly improve the productivity of both, it just might.

What I don't think will work is putting Dyshawn, Steve and Kendall on the floor together.

Hopefully Dyshawn is not too far out of playing shape and Archie and his staff can figure out a solution to the struggles of the offense in the half court.

Good insight.

I believe there are two issues with the Kendall Steve chemistry.
1) Neither is a good outside threat. Steve has yet to take a 3 or a shot any distance from the basket. Kendall throws a random outside shot in. This contributes to not enough spacing on the floor. Dyshawn being an inside outside threat will pair nicely with either. Pierre also has good floor vision.

2) Steve's offensive game is still a work in progress. He needs more lower body strength to hold position inside and experience against savvy post players.

Very interesting. I recall something similar with Chris Wright and Charles Little. Little's numbers in particular seemed to fall off a cliff as he tried to adjust to playing with Wright. Of course, the "offense" that was being run also may have played a factor too. They weren't the only ones tripping over each other.

And I have no issue with Steve ever really shooting from any real distance. I'm plenty satisfied with his jump hook with either hand, and crashing the hoop. The difference, imho, in what you're saying is that at least KP can play out on the wing in receiving the ball and take it to the rack with either hand..Would a 17 ft jumper be nice? Absolutely but KP plays like both a 3 (nice athlete with speed minus the face-up shot) and a 4 ....I have no issue with both being on the floor at the same time..

We simply need CC, SS, and DD to be able to hit the 3 a bit more consistently as SS seems to be the only one that does..Watching DD hit those 3 the other night and his reaction was HUGE for this team going forward..
