I'm having problems posting. It's 12-12. We are going with 2 setters. Jane backrow. Brooke front. No Peterson or Hubacek. Pla and Albarran in rotation.

TO UD - Cal Poly up 20-15. This set will be tough to win. We have Jane in the rotation and Sierra up front. I don't know what other hitters are in but I'll try to get the rotation next set.

22-19 Cal Poly -- UD chipping away. Brooke back in setting. Big time opportunity for her to step up.

Cal takes 1st set 25-19. At 22-19 TO -- we service error coming out of the TO. That is so common. Cal tool advantaged and closed it out.
We need to jump out early the second set. We hit 179. Cal Poly hit 314. You aren't going to win with those numbers.

25-19 Poly first set.
Up 9-6 we give up 4 straight points.
After Poly timeout at 19-22 - Schutter with service error.
Killers.

Becky, I think this is what the rotation is...
Bruns/Albarran
Westbeld/Emmenecker
Erhahon (serves)/Wolf
Sloan
Pla/Schutter
Brown/Wolf

Just for a quick comparison ... In set 1, Emmenecker was +1, while Westbeld was -7.

After leading early in this set, Cal Poly takes control and it's 20-15 again. That's just tough to win. You have to score twice as many points just to tie it up. Cal is leading in every stat except Blocks and that's 3 to 2. Not enough blocks by UD.
Cal's setter is very good. (Nelson) She has been on several teams via USA Volleyball coming up the ranks as a prep and college player.

Got it to 22-20 -- UD on a run. TO CP. Please no service error coming out of the TO! Jordan serving. This is a critical point to get it to one behind.

Cal in overtime -- wins 2nd 28-26. Girls have to get fired up and take it to them in the 3rd. It's going to take 5 to win this one.

our hitting % for the match went from 179 after 1 to 304 after 2. We hit really well in set 2. However, Cal Poly is at 350 for the match.
We lead 4-2 in blocks, but we have 3 blocking errors to their 2 errors -- so net blocking stats is UD up one point. 4 blocks is not going to get it done (2 per set) and here is a tell-tale stats -- 3 of our 4 blocks are solo blocks. There is nothing prettier than a solo block, but if that's basically all you have -- it means we are having problems closing blocks -- with two or three players. if we can't close the block, hitters score. It's just too much pressure on the back row to cover the court.
I like we came back from 20-15 down. We didn't mail it in. Disappointing we had the lead early and gave it up, but team needs to come out on fire and not make the same mistake. We are in a dog fight.

I followed along. As ud69, pointed out Dayton started real strong in set 2, got out to a 10-5 lead and then gave let Cal Poly go on a run. Tough first match, but I have a feeling that Cal Poly team will be good. The second set was encouraging. Pla and Westbeld showed their inexperience. I think Brooke had at least 3 ball handling errors and Pla finished with a 0.000 hit %. Slogans hit% of 0.370 is really good. Obviously just one match, but that a good performance against a good team.

She hit .091.
We got out hit by around 100 points. (.241 to .336). Out-dug by 10 (36 to 46). Blocks ended even at 6, but CP got 4 in the 3rd set which is not good. All those stats are related. It's never good to get out-dug.
Without video, hard to tell is we passed well, handled serve receive or served tough. When a team hits 336, you probably didn't do a great job of keeping them out of system which means our serve probably didn't scare anyone. They also had 3 hitters swing 27-38 times each. We had one hitter (Sloan at 29) swing that many times. It appears they could handle our serves just fine. With 7 serving errors, I was hoping we were cranking it up, but doesn't appear to be the case. CP had no problem distributing the ball to their hitters. Serving and blocking worry me.
They also went after Jane. She had 8 digs playing 3 backrow rotations. Point of reference is Margo plays 5.5 rotations and had 10 digs. You always want to hit at the setter when she is in the backrow so she has to take the first touch and is not available for the second touch ( the set). And you want to hit away from the Libero. CP appears to have done that very well against us.
We need to get after it tonight against NIU. We need to come home 2-1 and learn from this match. Go Flyers.

The good news - Amber and Jess only made one hitting error each. That is very, very good. Kendall only had two which is also very good. It's especially good because they are taking sets from 2 different setters plus Margo and Maggie had a couple assists. Every setter is a little different. It's the biggest challenge going with two setters - setting the same way for each hitter.

This is a big reason we didn't win this match...
CP got the ball to their top 3 hitters 95 times. We got the ball to our top 3 hitters 56 times.
That's too big of a difference.
