E. Tennessee State Game Thread
This will be one heck of a test on Saturday Afternoon. ETSU is 7-1, and I will continue to say they are this year's Chattanooga, one heck of a mid major team, that we will need our best effort to beat.
Game is at 2 PM and will be shown on Fox Sports Ohio.
Starting Lineup:
G 13 A.J. Merriweather 6’2” 205 SR Jackson, Tennessee
G 0 T.J. Cromer 6’3” 195 SR Albany, Georgia
G 11 Desonta Bradford 6’4” 190 JR Humboldt, Tennessee
F 40 Tevin Glass 6’8” 220 SR Norcross, Georgia
F 12 Hanner Mosquera-Perea 6’9” 230 SR Istmina, Colombia
Cromer is by far their best player, averages over 19 a night, but they are extremely balanced... They have 7 guys who avg from 6.8 pts to 9.3 pts
Two notes... Glass is a transfer from Wichita State & Mosquera-Perea transferred in from Indiana.
Get it done! Go UD!

This is going to be a heck of test. They have 1 Freshman and no Sophomores. That's 12 upperclassmen. Deep roster with experience.
This one forward, Mosquera-Perrea, is listed at 230lbs, but looks more like 250lbs at 6'9".
Looks like a taller Charles Little.
Stats match up with ours very well. I think if this game were at a neutral site it would go down about like a Wooden Legacy game.
Go Flyers!!

This is not our typical buy game opponent. There first 2 games were Fordham and Detroit - AT HOME, played UNC Wilmington (last year's Colonial champion) on the road, played 3 games in SD in a showcase event and came home to play 2 patsies. So only 1 true road game (so far) which was probably a H/H arrangement. Our game is part of 3 straight road games.

Teams that board and take care of the ball are going to give Dayton fits.
ETSU cleans the defensive glass, and will get to the offensive glass from dribble penetration. They board by committee and the Flyers will have opportunity to run off misses. All year the Flyers are going to fight to keep the rebounding margin even and try to turn the tide with turnovers. ETSU will be no different.
The Buccaneers play up-tempo and give it away as much as the take it away. I think turnover margin will be the key metric. Flyers have shown the ability to lock it down in the second half once they've seen how the other team plays.
Another thing that jumps out about ETSU is they finish or get fouled. Bucs are shooting 63% (2nd in the nation) from inside the arc and averaging 8 more FTA than their opponents.
While they are deep and experienced they have been feasting on a weak schedule and lost to the only decent team they've played (UNC Wilmington). TJ Cromer is their main guy who has taken twice as many shots as anyone else on the squad.

Wait, no Australian guys? Is that even allowed? If Istmina, Columbia was in the Southern Hemisphere, I'd count it, but it's not. I checked a map. Pretty darn close though.

Xman drains it immediately after coming in for Mikesell.
It doesn't really matter much but XW deserves to start over RM based on his play lately

23-15 under 8 timeout.
Darrell had actually played well until that turnover. Teammates need to know he can't be the creator with 8 seconds left on the shot clock.

Flyers playing some great ball. They are really cutting off the passing lanes and their double-teams are lethal. The sophomores are playing good ball. Cooke is just amazing. Kyle is all over the court creating chaos. Best game this season, by far.

IF Kendall plays like this the rest of the year, we're in good shape.
Clearly, he's making up for lost time.
Sweet! And Charles looking like future NBA player.
Imagine if scooch isn't 1 for 8 , and we are actually shooting well. ****!

Surprised that Trey Landers hasn't seen any action yet.

In other news. Rhody is down 3 at Houston with under 3 minutes to play.

I highly doubt we will see any of Trey unless somebody is sick or there is serious foul trouble. It's been pretty obvious that Archie doesn't trust him yet.

RM is not whole. His wrist must still be bothering him. He is an offensive liability the way he has been playing lately.

Trey brings a real energy. He is foul-prone, but I love his defense.

Great ball movement to get Cooke a wide open NBA 3 that he drills.

Rhody down 8. 20 seconds left. Martin is hurt but you simply can't lose to Houston. Bad for the A10.

3-17 on threes. The only thing we have done poorly today.

Well, I would think that once AM deems this game locked up, you'll see Trey. We'll see when that is if the case.

Nope.
Sorry but Archie simply isn't going to play him.

How do I know Charles Cooke is going to be a pro? He asks for a towel to dry off with before going on TV for an interview.

You're obviously right, but why not if he feels the game is locked away? Should get him minutes. But I guess with his quick fouling, it's rarely locked away for someone who can draw 3 fouls in 3 possessions.

In basketball, at this level, you hone your skills with game time...you right your game during practice.

Our offense was darn good, against a somewhat weak defensive team. On the other hand our defense today was exceptional against a very good offensive team.

This was the best UD has done denying dribble penetration and keeping a team off of the offensive glass against a team that makes those things a big part of their offense. Those two likely are not unrelated.
