Top 25?
Do you think when the next rankings come out in a few days, that we will be in the Top 25? I definately think we should be after an amazing weekend.

I think we will get votes but not get into the top 25. I am a little concerned that this team will let up just a little if they get ranked. Let them keep a chip on their shoulder for another week or so...

I always want the exposure/to be ranked. I also want the chip on the shoulder.
Can't I have both?

Got to disagree. Believe we will get in,and believe that we have earned it.
Would be good to have two A10 teams ranked. The ranking won't cause this team to let up; in fact, they likely already know that they are good enough to be ranked.

We should be ranked but I'm afraid we might not be. Last year we were 10-1 with a road win over Louisville and were not ranked. Let's hope our 14-1 start last year got us some respect and maybe we WILL be ranked. I hope we are! It's always good to be ranked and get the extra exposure on ESPN.

I don't think so. As good as we looked tonight, we looked equally as bad against Auburn. We will get votes for sure.

I think UD will get votes, but no Top 25 ranking. Top 30 for sure.

I say - you beat #15 and are 6-0 with a healthy Chris Wright and a solid and contributing cast of characters - you are in.
And this "keep a chip on the shoulder" stuff is for the birds. We have the chip and getting ranked isn't going to knock it off. It's time for Dayton fans to stop being scared of being ranked.
We are deep and scappy - we are improving and we are a TEAM!
All good things to see. Be proud Flyers - you deserve the exposure.
You play to WIN.

Not likely
Too many teams ahead of us still bagging cupcakes. If we can get by Creighton, it is not inconcievable that we could go 20-0 or better before we are not a heavy favorite to win. Somewhere in there we can crack top 25>

Teams generally don't go from not receiving votes to entering the topp 25 solely on the basis of beating #15.

UD will not get ranked. Probably get enough votes to be in the 32-36 range.

Don't know the answer to that question, but they beat Missouri, Va Tech, then Memphis to get their ranking.
BTW, Chicago St beat Mercer tonight.
We will get votes, but won't be ranked.

Mercer
won tonight 88-77 over Chicago State. That being said I agree with thos that think we will move into the 25-30 range. Awfully tough to jump from no votes to top 25 but we keep winning we will get there!!!

Whatever X had it doesn't make any difference because they had "celebrity status" (which they've earned) before the Memphis win.
We have to leap too many lillypads to get ranked this early even though this team has star power that is hungry. Our "kids" who were 0-16 against Auburn showed up real big tonight. We should get stronger by the game now and the rating will take care of itself.

Geeeeez. I'd love to see it and if that happens we'd be a top 10 team...i'm not betting on it though.

Our win was an "upset"

We will start the slow accumulation of votes. Keep winning and we will move up.

I dont think we will be ranked this comming week. And I cant help but wonder if that 0-24 will be in the heads of those who vote. Either way I could care less how high we are ranked this early. Beat Troy and go beat Akron on the road and I think we will be in the top 25.

I think that before we all start worrying about being ranked....we should worry about Tuesday when we play Troy. Anyone remeber the hangover game against Akron after beating Pitt last year???

This is different, Akron was actually a quality opponent last season. Troy is well, Troy.

Coming off the last two games vs. Auburn and Marquette I'm sure BG is concerned and hoping that the players don't take Troy lightly.

Exactly...one game at a time please. Troy is not a bad team, and they scored over 100pts last night.

As long as we play defense the same way we have so far, we will be fine.
No reason to believe we won't.
No worries.

We will probably get a vote for two, but we need to win a few more games before we can be considered top 25. We are looking good though, great depth will be the key this year.

Stop the Madness!
We're 6-0, but we've played a really weak schedule! Check the daily updated RPI here on UDPride.
Yeah, we had a great win last night over Marquette, and I'm as excited about how this team played last night as anybody. But let's be serious. We don't deserve to be ranked and we won't be ranked. And if we are ranked, those people should have their heads checked.
A great game last night, need to keep it up through December.

Just looked at the A-10 website, and they have us listed at 5-1. They must have posted that thinking we would lose to Marquette??
Point is, that if our own conference is dissin us, how can we be in the top 25?
We will have to be 10-0 before we get in, at least. imho

No, we're not top 25 material yet. We'll get some votes, but not top 25.
Unfortunately, I don't see how we can be. We don't play any more quality opponents until we play Xavier twice. Knock them down once and play them close another time, then we can think about being ranked.
Just gotta beat through our horrible NC schedule, and hopefully split with X.

While I agree that voters may have the 0-24 in their head I also believe that they will also realize that even with Dayton's poorest offensive performance in modern history they did in fact beat a SEC/BCS school. Its the "W" that should count not the 0--24.

Creighton is not very good this season guys ... they lost to Arkansas-Little Rock and Nebraska. They were hyped up big in pre-season ...
Win both this week and we are in the top 25.
Fact is we needed this win, it is our only chance to make an impression to the nation until conference and we knew that coming in. We did it, thank god!

Not to sound biased but Mason is not as bad as people think. Their recruiting class was as good as Dayton's and they lost 2 really good players to our 1. Dayton should beat them but it will be considered a good win.

Maybe horrible if your trying to impress the talking heads (what a waste of time) but I see potential stumbling blocks @Akron, @Creighton, vsGeorge Mason, vs Miami. I would be real happy if we went 15-0 ooc, but 13-2 wouldn't surprise me.

Dayton was not ranked when they knocked off their first ranked opponent in Louisville last year. That gives me reason to believe that they will not crack the top 25 when the new polls come out.

First, its always better to be ranked than not ranked, even more so for a school in UD's position. Despite UD's win over #15 Marquette on Saturday evening, with all of the college football on saturday, watching ESPN you'd be hard press to have known that w/o reading the scroll. I don't think there was a single mention on the 11:00 pm sportscenter, nor sunday morning at the 9:00 sportscenter. Sounds like there was some mention, perhaps only during the top 10 plays during other sportscenters.
Should Xavier fall out of the top 25, UD may not play another ranked team all season long. Sportscenter rarely shows many highlights or mention of non ranked teams. College BBall tonight, sure, and there will always be mention of teams off the radar when they begin talking about seeding, but the main show will show few UD highlights unless UD or its opponent is ranked. While BG is trying to turn this team into the best squad managable, he's out there trying to sell the program to kids for the '10 class. Not only does it get easier to sell a top 25 program that is debating b/w UD & OSU (ie Payne), but its got to make the job infinently easier when you can call a recruit after a big win and tell him to flip on sportscenter for the high lights that evening. W/ college football about to wind down, and the NFL working its way down to only a few important games a week, college basketball will start to work its way into a bigger chunk of sportscenter's time. All the better should UD get ranked this afternoon.
W/ all that said, I doubt UD gets ranked this week. As mentioned, unless you were really paying attention, you probably didn't know UD won the Chicago invitational w/ wins over Mercer, Auburn & Marquette this week. Heck you probably heard more about UD's 0-24 from 3 land game than you did about their impressive win over Marquette. You'd like to think the voters in these polls are paying attention, but sadly many of them are not, and there will likely be more than a handful that won't realize that UD knocked off Marquette until they actually release the poll to everyone this afternoon, well after their vote has been counted.
I'm guessing the fall somewhere in the 28-30 range and hope for something better. This past week got them on the radar, next week will get them close, perhaps just over the hump, winning @ Creighton will cement them in the top 25, with the rest of OOC play solidifying their presence for the start of A-10 play.

One comment from the schedule debate this summer rings true. In ooc we have a lot more chances for a bad loss than we do for a good win. So taking care of business when we are favored is critical.
We just aced the first test from a good opponent and we won the Tournament.

On ESPN's college b-ball wrap-up last night . . .

Doug Gottlieb (I think) was arguing with his co-hosts, who were going on about the supremacy of the Big East because they had so many teams in the top 25. Doug felt maybe they didn't all belong there - particularly Marquette, as they had just been creamed by Dayton (kind of a back-handed compliment). It was nice to get a mention but - as you said - some of these people just aren't paying attention.
