Probably time to get this going again
Vincent Williams of Toledo St. John’s was first team all state in division 1 as a junior
At one point I think Dayton was looking at him but with the change in regimes it begins anew. Has an offer from Wichita St
Same high school as Brian Roberts.
The junior forward scored 30 points in the Titans game against St. Francis de Sales. But it was the first half for Williams which sticks out as he scored 21 points to push St. John's out to an early lead against the Knights.
"It was the best half of basketball I've ever seen a St. John's player play," St. John's Jesuit head coach Ed Heintschel said.

Long time coach there and they've had some good players go through there

Assistant coach there who is expected to take over was a manager at UD under Gregory. How's that for inside info?

Wonder where the positions will from, only baby D scheduled to leave. Coach grant must assume some of this years recruits aren't coming or that some are going away next year.

Coach Grant has not offered any 2018 scholarships - at least not that have been reported here. But if Grant goes out and offers 5 guys tomorrow, it still doesn't mean he has multiple openings. You offer multiple guys for every spot you have. That's just how it works.

Correct, the rule of thumb is 10-15 offers per every open scholarship.

ESPN - Key Recruiting Questions
On the recruiting challenges facing some of the top new hires . . .
" VCU Rams and Dayton Flyers: Will Mike Rhoades and Anthony Grant keep their programs atop the Atlantic 10?
VCU and Dayton are both recruiting at a much higher level than they were a decade ago, and Rhoades and Grant are hoping that continues on their watch . . .
At Dayton, Archie Miller was mixing Division I transfers with under-the-radar high school players, and he also stole some high-major-caliber recruits along the way. Both programs are considered among the best in the country right now, and Rhoades and Grant are in charge of keeping it that way."

hope we can compete with ETSU. Pray that Southern North Dakota doesn't get involved. With our fan base, tourney experience, facilities, etc. we might try aiming a little higher.

Maybe AG and staff see something in this kid others do not see yet?
Maybe within a few months all the big dogs will be after this kid?
Maybe we should all give AG & staff time before we fly off the deep end and start *****ing about every move the guy makes, or has not made to date.
EDIT- Just saw Thirts post below, and looks like the Big Dogs are already after this young man. Agree with Thirt, the Jackas$ery gets old.

I know this doesn't fit with your narrative of jackas$ery, but he *picked up* interest from UD & ETSU. Already had interest from schools such as Maryland, Ga Tech, St. John's, Purdue, Michigan State, Texas A&M, others.

I don't mind the updates - but if we are going to provide updates on every offer, commitment and signing this is going to be a really long thread over the summer and fall. It might be a good idea to run that in a separate thread so those who want to see information on who Dayton is recruiting can find the information without wading through a lot of information on Wisconsin or Nebraska.

Under Grant, or under Miller. I'd say it's safe to say who Dayton is expressing interest in now isn't the same as it was.

I read that yesterday on 11warriors but forgot to post it. He absolutely ripped OSU's basketball program and he was basically right about everything. I even read the comments on 11warriors and none of the OSU fans even tried to defend OSU. They all agreed with him.

Antwann Jones is from Oak Ridge High School in Florida. Darren Hertz needs to get a relationship with this kid because he is familiar with recruiting in the state of Florida as he was on Billy Donovan's staff at the University of Florida. Jones profile is now updated with an offer from UD. Just like Tom Ostrom earned McKinley Wright's respect, one of our four assistants needs to earn Antwann Jones respect. This kid could change the face of the Flyers for four years, a 4 star 6'5" shooting guard that is also a great passer! I am sure that Anthony Grant could make an impression on this kid and tell him what it takes to be a pro!
Go to YouTube.com and check out his Ultimate Sauce video. About two-thirds of the way through he fakes some kids jock off on a move under the basket!

Hertz doesn't recruit. He manages information about recruits. And arranges logistics of visits. Kid you mention is in Orlando where Ricardo Greer was last year. And both Grant and Kane have significant ties to the University of Florida like Hertz. They have recruited dozens of kids from Orlando.

Malik Riddle 6'4 SG Rossville, TN
Despite seeing his least productive game of the weekend, it was easy to see the talent M33M Elite gaurd Malik Riddle possesses. A 2018 recruit, Riddle is equipped with long arms, good athleticism and a versatile scoring attack. Through seven games in the Gauntlet, Riddle is averaging 13.3 points and 4.4 rebounds. He's also connected on 10 of his 25 three-pointer attempts.
Recruiting: Dayton, Navy, ETSU, TCU, LIU-Brooklyn, Creighton, Austin Peay, Tennessee State, Arkansas State

Interesting. Two names in the past week from the Memphis metro area with him and Jalen Crutcher. Riddle goes to school in Rossville which is just north of the Tennessee/Mississippi border but he's actually from Holly Springs, MS. Sounds like James Kane is working his Murray State pipeline.

Is this the place where I'm supposed to complain about some of the schools included in that list or is that on the third floor with men's outerwear?

'18 Bainbridge Paint Valley C Dylan Swingle has committed to Duquesne.
He had I believe an offer from the old staff, not sure about the current one. Picked Duquesne over West Virginia.
Dambrot off to good start dragging the Dukes out of 200 plus RPI territory

A prospect attracting these schools of interest cannot be a key ingredient in a top 50 recruiting class. That's what we need to get where we want to go. This is the type of recruiting competition that O'Brien (and Purnell in his last few years) were beating out for talent.

Still early in the game for 2018. Most of these guys pick better offers as Spring/Summer goes on

Yeah, because ETSU is awful! They were only 27-8 this year and 24-12 last year while beating some real good teams.
TCU, how could Jamie Dixon not have them winning the Big 12 in his first year? What a joke.
And Creighton, how could they only win 25 games after only losing their best player. They were awful! They only started 18-1 with their only loss to #1 Nova. What horrible teams to be recruiting against really early in the process.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but unless someone transfers out, we'll only have some open scholarship for 2018?

Correct, so I hope AG is very selective in who he offers too.
Although based on the way things work for most teams these days with transfers, I would plan on 2 being open

If they do only have 1... I'm hoping the staff holds out and hope OSU crashes and burns so Dane Goodwin would de-commit... Then hopefully the staff will go all-in to try and bring Damon's son into the program.

Whether it be Goodwin or any other top recruit I hope CAG is willing to send somebody packing to get the open scholarship he needs.

There will be plenty of changes this coming year. I can't imagine everyone will both want to and be able to make those adjustments. At this point, I don't wish anyone out of the program but I think it is highly likely next offseason that some on this board will be wishing well to 1 or 2 transferring out, some on this board will be trying too hard to make a point about not caring about anyone that would dare transfer out, and some on this board will be pointing to their perceived coaching issues as the reason for the transfers.
Regardless, I think you are absolutely corrected. Probability is that there will be more than 1 spot available.

While we're worrying about having open scholarships for 2018 Western Kentucky just signed their 14th scholarship player for 17-18 today and they are still in the running for two grad transfers including Coleby from KU/Ole Miss. So they still have to get rid of at least 1 player before the fall semester begins and possibly up to 3.

As others have said, chances are someone(s) will transfer out. Better than an 80 percent chance I'd put it at. But I doubt it will be because Grant runs someone off. It's pretty incredible that everyone was willing to stay put and give Anthony a chance this year, but the key thing to remember is that these guys for the most part weren't recruited by Anthony. So if they don't get the playing time they want or something just isn't the way they were used to it being with Archie, they are just very likely to leave, especially with transferring being such the norm today.
Your highest risk player by far is Josh Cunningham who will graduate next year and be free to go play for whomever he wants. For others it will probably come down to whether they are happy with playing time and whether they think they can earn more in the future. Another high risk factor is that geographic diversity of a very large freshman recruiting class. With a class that size and players from all over the place, it's pretty darn likely someone will be homesick enough to ask out.
So you can just about bank on at least one more scholarship opening up. Probably two.

He played a little school in Eastern Kentucky, Cordia, for former UK player Rod Rhodes before going to South Kent

I bet he really enjoyed spending one of his seasons in Cordia only playing 14 games and then not getting to play in the postseason his next year. I was shocked when he left after Rhodes was fired.

I would think that a combo guard would be at the top of the wish list for the 2018 class, and beyond that if a spot or two opens up, try to add another wing, and another big, in that order. At least in an ideal scenario. Get the most talented player you can should be first and foremost.

Sounds like you are describing 6'6" 205 lb. SG Antwann Jones, Jr. from Oak Ridge High School in Tampa, FL. UD made him their very first offer for 2018 in mid-June of last year! Jones was a 4 star at that time and his stock is continuing to rise! He is presently at 4.5 stars as Rivals has him at a 4 star and ESPN rates him a 5 star.
On verbal commits.com he has 12 offers but, before you say he is out of our class compared to the Power 5 or 6 conferences I have hope because CAG did not hesitate to go after the higher rated players at Alabama and there is no reason that should change now. Besides, he and at least one of his assistants have experience recruiting the state of Florida when they worked for Billy Donovan at Florida.

With fewer scholarships to give it's easier to swing for the fences on recruits. Plenty of guys to fill one or more spots

Yeah top 150 but can he posterize anyone? Sorry wrong thread.
I'd love another PG for 2018 and a 6-3 one would fit real nicely in CAG's style.

I watched videos of Mike Devoe. He is left handed and all of his drives to the basketball are with his dominant left hand and most of his drives are to the left. He plays well below the rim. He is thin and could round out more fully. But, right now he does not appear to be a great athlete. One of the videos showed Mike Devoe and Antwann Jones playing together. Antwann Jones looks like a much more athletic player showing more basketball moves. I really like this Antwann Jones player.

Video shows a very short stout player with great dribbling skills and a good shot. He does not seem overly fast nor athletic. He plays well below the rim. Is he really 5'10"?

It makes sense. In 2018 one will be a Sr and the other a Sophmore. Going into 2019 having a Jr and a Fr as your only PG could be trouble. You can never have enough good ball handlers.

I remember Steph Curry talking about his recruitment. Nobody wanted him except for a single coach who said he saw 'greatness' in Curry's future. Having a recognized top 25 class is nice but what I really want is for the recruiting class to be considered great after the players are on the court

Etiquette would probably be to not talk directly to Dane until he decommits, but I'm sure Damon would put his old teammate on speakerphone.

Nope, not at all actually. Coaches continually recruit players they really want up until they sign an LOI.

This is true. But it does not make my statement untrue. I can absolutely see Anthony calling Damon to say "tough break for your son, you know we would of course love to have him" but I highly doubt Anthony Grant is blowing Dane's phone up directly. I'd like to think Damon would tell his son that Anthony Grant is a man of tremendous character and integrity. And from all accounts, that seems to be true. So I really don't see him doing something as slimy as sending Dane texts and phone calls minutes after the news of Thad stepping down.

What you call slimy is SOP for recruiting. I know many of you think there are all these noble people out there and all these rules. But I can promise you, Dane's phone started blowing up before it was even officially announced, and I hope Coach Grant was among them.

Careful m21eagle45 next thing you know they'll be calling you a cheater for even insinuating UD might even get close to breaking something that they think is a rule.

Grant's advantage with Dane is the relationship with Damon as a former teammate. He will absolutely go through dad, until dad tells him his son would welcome direct communication. Is that an antiquated way of doing things? Perhaps. But even if you put aside the Grant-Goodwin relationship, remember that Damon Goodwin is a coach himself, and I think you can safely assume that he has a professional appreciation for coaches who go about it the right way, even if that is old school in your book. So I'm just saying that in this case, for what little it is worth, Grant would be a fool to not use the advantages he has, and those are his integrity, character and personal relationships. Texting blind or calling cold and unsolicited is what you do if you don't have these advantages.

Breaking with unwritten codes and tradition is one thing... I'm all for keeping up with the Joneses and doing what it takes when Dayton actually stands something to gain.

If a kid is an OSU groupie, he will be going there if Mickey Mouse is the next coach. Matta is a submarine, who lately could not find his periscope, so Dane is glad there is a new coach.

"As of right now I'm not involved with any other programs and I'm still trying to look over all options," he stated. "Once I figure that out, then I can decide if I want to look into anywhere else or not."
Said Dane Goodwin and McKinley Wright.
This isn't over until it's over.

If you only read the headline it sounds like done deal staying at OSU. If you read the quotes in the article it is a completely different story. Still a decent chance he would look elsewhere.

These classes always confuse me. So he is a high school senior this fall and would enroll fall of 2018?
Same with Dane Goodwin correct?

Ok, you folks are knocking me out with these names. All four of these guys have lots of video on the web. I've watched, at least 30 videos on these young men. I like all four: (not in any order) Antwann Jones, Dane Goodwin, Dwayne Cohill and Justin Ahrens.
This bunch of names would be very nice.

Would love to get Cohill, as he is as good as Goodwin, and may play the point in college, but he is leaning Michigan.
