GOLDEN This Team Has Heart and a Bright Future

Critics be d*mned, this team won't give up, which is a reflection of both our players and coach. Down 13, I'm 100% Royally certain that udscott was drafting a thread so negative and unprovoking that his lifetime supply of purple pills would forever be obsolete. Then My Flyers staged their comeback and - oops - udscott had to file his manifesto away in hopes for another UD loss...oh, the humanity of ignorance.

With that said, I'll post a Golden Poll, but I'm not sure why as it's fairly obvious who will walk away with the bling. But it's tradition, and who am I to mess with such a coveted thread. I can only imagine the chaos around here if a Golden Poll - especially after such an exciting win - were skipped.

Vote away.

udscott...which Flyer earned your tarnished vote?

Go Flyers! My Team!

The sentimental choice is Kostas but Trey played a great game. So I am going with Kostas.

Kostas, who far exceeded his recent game play, and for an actual defensive effort against French, who was basically scoring at will.

‘‘Tis the season for miracles and saviors rising from the dead, so had to vote for Kostas. I’m praying X will see he too is not dead to this team and coaching staff and will follow suit by man-ing up... going to AG and asking for the slate to be cleared and re-commit to playing hard and finding a way to contribute in AGs system.

Was nearly a toss-up for me. Could easily have voted for Trey, for a multitude of reasons (the highlight-reel dunk, the just-as-crucial stickback late in the game, the laser-like feed to Josh for the bucket that put us up 4 with under a minute to play, just to name a few). But went with Kostas. His defense on French swung the momentum late. His 5/6 from the floor made him our most reliable scoring threat. His ball-handling skill allowed CAG to use him to break SLU’s full-court zone press throughout the 2nd half. If “January Kostas” had shown-up last night, we lose. His improvement made the difference last night.

Also, a shoutout to Trey for leading the team over to The Red Scare after the game. The students were engaged and LOWD last night, and Trey wanted the team to show its appreciation. That’s what a leader does. Really looking forward to seeing him represent our Flyers in the years to come.

So our choices are 3 freshmen, a sophomore who rarely played last season, and our first year coach.

Yep, I am excited for the future!

Kostas gets my vote, not so much for his scoring, rebounding, or even the blocked shots. Defensively GF3 held his own, muscled up the best he can with his slim body, was in better position when we went man, and did not commit the instant stupid reaching fouls. Hoping this is a sign of what is to come!

Honorable mention to Clutch. 40 minutes and a 4 1/2 to 1 assist to turnover ratio

Me too, BeckysTXA. I can only hope that X pulls the plug on his Dumb-@$$-O-Meter and re-commits to the program. If last year’s X had been around for those 2 OT road losses, we’d have won both games in regulation, which would have put our conference record at 9-6, and put us in the driver’s seat for a top 4 seed and a double-bye in DC. Yeah, I know. “Ifs and buts”. But still...

I was at the game and spent a lot of my time watching Trey. He is a budding star. In addition to that, he plays his butt off and is a complete team player. He is definitely playing "Anthony ball!" I have to admit, Kostas gave us his best minutes as a Flyer, but Trey was just a complete warrior on both sides of the ball. Who would have thought coming into the season that he would figure so well into the scheme of things?

Thought AG did the right thing and pulled DD when he went into "dribble/drive/turnover" mode.

It was between Kostas and Landers for me. Kostas is a sentimental vote. I tend not to vote for a guy because he played better than he used to. On an objective basis I vote for the guy who impacted the game the most. Landers had the biggest impact, as his was spread over a lot more minutes. I would also argue that his dunk was the shot that decided that we would beat StL, and decided for StL that they were screwed.

Kostas was awesome - but wouldn't have been in without Coach Grant's game plan.

I voted Coach.

I voted for Kostas. Landers had the best all around game and we don't win without him, but Kostas was the first to bring energy to the game. In the first half when it looked like, and the game thread shows everyone thought so, the team had just mailed it in for the rest of the season Kostas came in and gave energy to the team. To me his stats were gravy, his energy was the meat! In the first half I even mentioned that Trey even looked like he had given up trying to lead this team with energy, which is rare because he's usually the energy guy. It was evident in the second half that Kostas' energy was infectious and the rest of the team followed suit (except Josh in my opinion, although most disagree with me on this point.)

Realistically it's Trey "do everything, Johnny on the spot, Glue Man" Landers; but Kostas saves the day, and thus earns the proud and appreciative vote of the Senior Pride of Beatty.

However, I must issue yet another "Poll Bias Alert" as the great minutes and fabulous defense and box-outs of #23Jack Westerfield were overlooked by a king poll author who was off eye spying on the "Woman of the Scarlet and Gray". Westerfield's three minutes were not clean-up fun bunch minutes. Congratulations to Jack Westerfield for his play, hustle, and very substantial contribution.

Kostas. Without him French continues to score at will and SLU wins by double digits. Kostas also blocked and altered other players shots as well.

I went with KA because of the job he did and the change he brought into the game. But...

> Trey had a very good game + he pulled KA away from complaining to the ref about a foul called on him. I assume Trey gave him the "keep your head in the game" speech.

> At the end of the game, Grant put KA on French (#22) who was killing us. A couple of misses later, UD wins.

Hard fought win.

I saw Trey pull Kostas away from the ref, (for what is worth it then looked like Kostas went over an apologized to the ref), and I am glad he did as you are just never going to win an argument with the ref, That said, my lord there was some horrible officiating last night. Kostas got called for a continuation foul when a guy took a dribble, dropped his shoulder, (bump occurs, no whistle), two more dribbles then a fade away with no more contact other than the initial bump and gets the hoop and the foul. If you called the bump, when it happened as a foul on the floor I would have probably disagreed and dealt with it but as it was called it was the most ridiculous continuation call I have ever seen and I will include the NBA in that statement.

I know those guys have alot to keep an eye on and I certainly don't think it is easy to be a ref, but man lots of jobs are hard and people still do them well.

I thought the worst was early on when the SLU player just pushed his way into Trey and Trey got called for the foul.

That one was also horrible. He just put the ball in Trey's chest and kept walking into him. When the whistle blew and I didn't see the traveling signal I almost committed an act of violence.

OK, that's it for me complaining about refs. I will quit before I am reprimanded.

Amen. That was the one near the baseline, when Trey had a blockout, and Bess went right over/through Trey and landed out of bounds, and they called a foul on Trey. For what? Being on the court. Obvious foul on Bess, or just a no call and UD ball.

If available I would have voted team. Yes on Trey and Kostas but it takes all 5 guys on the court to do their part so Trey and Kostas could shine.

Who would have ever thought defense would win us a game this year. And that took all 5 on the court to do.

This was probably the best and biggest win of the year. Those on the court played with grit, guts and a will to win.

Down 13 in a low scoring game is like being down 20. It wasn't pretty but was gutsy just what they needed to show what toughness and following a game plan especially when the shots aren't falling.

Now if the rest of the crew could take a hint that effort does really pay off.

Surprised nobody has mentioned the time KA was out of bounds and tipped the ball back to a UD player.

Shhhhhhhhh!!!!!!

Video guys mentioned it. But I was watching the ref and he was looking at Kostas feet. Clearly his body was out of bounds but not sure his feet landed yet. Ref was right there.

I don't think he was out of bounds when he threw the ball back in but he had landed and then jumped up to throw it back in. Correct me if I am wrong Rollo, but since no one else touched the ball after he blocked it and he was the first one to touch it after coming back in from out of bounds it is a violation.

Lol that thread is coming Friday night

Vote away.

udscott...which Flyer earned your tarnished vote?

Jalen. It's always Jalen.

Trey Landers is going to be a real headache these next two years. Dayton Basketball will be back with a vengeance next year

Coach Grant got my vote- is beginning to go from being the dumbest guy in the room who "can't draw a simple offensive play", "has no substitution pattern that makes sense", "can't make any half time adjustments", "doesn't know how to use time-outs", "has lost the players" to a disciplinarian who uses principle to make you earn PT, doesn't give rats _ss what your last name is, demands you work, gets us a key recruit who can contribute, and remains the best role model for young athletes we've had in recent memory.

Get your point.

Not so sure a robust 3 point win over a depleted SLU team makes your case.

KA BUT and it is a BIG BUT (no pun here folks) is this a flash in the pan or the start of something else ..... ?

One game at this magnitude and a win does not make for a POY award.

The question still remains on some of our players .... how consistent can you be? How consistent ARE you?

We are getting some of those answers on some players only within the very recent time period.
