Exibition Game Announced
The Erie (PA) Times News today announced the the Gannon Golden Knights would be playing UD in an exibition game on November 11th. The Knights were 25-6 last year and won the GLIAC South Division.
Seen them play many times. Should be a nice tune up. Be nice to my home town boys!

Oh come on--are you joking? It will be at the Arena, like all exhibition games. There's no way UD would travel out of their back yard to play a Gannon, nor should they.

You are right, Swampy, and I remember it. 1969 or 70, I believe.

Gannon has home and homes this year against California and Indiana. They must have a really good AD to pull that off.

We played the California (PA) team last year for a pre-season game and they played us tough. we won 62-49 and only had one player in double figures that was Marcus Johnson. B-Rob only Managed three points in 25 MIN played.

This is a perfect partnership for UD. I like that we're playing the top teams from this conference in the preseason every year instead of traveling teams of screwoffs.
Check out the team that won that conference last year. I think they would beat at least a couple A-10 teams.

Grand Valley State also has a very good football team. They have won the Div II National Championship a few times.

Coupla transfers from U of M on that roster.
GVSU is a very impressive school with a nice campus in the middle of nowhere, but it's not small--they've got 20,000 kids there!
We toured the place when the Younger Swampette was looking at schools and really liked the campus. They also have a great softball program, which is why we looked at it.

I think that is a special arrangement because NKU is opening a new arena this year (Bank of Kentucky Center). Since they are both state schools, they must have worked out an agreement to open it with a big name. I think it's a pretty unusual circumstance because I can't think of another recent example of this happening.

Considering UD's track record with road games, I wouldn't have a problem with playing an exhibition on the road. Give the team a taste of what it will take to win on the road. Of course it would never happen, as then we wouldn't get the revenue for the game.

That's correct. The Ky state legislature "requested" UL to do it to open the new, nearly 10,000 seat facility. Word is UL gets a very large chunk of the gate, with the travel game potentially more lucrative to UL than a home exhibition game.

I meant "small sports program", not undergrad size. And yes, before you say it, I realize they're bigger than some D1 programs. That's my point. There's nothing wrong with playing these guys.
