Saint Joseph's Game Thread
Absolutely Massive Game... We can do this! Let's keep the streak going! Payback for Galloway's buzzer-beater.
Starting Lineup:
G Langston Galloway 6'2" 202 SR Baton Rouge, LA
G Chris Wilson 6'3" 210 JR Fayetteville, NC
F DeAndre' Bembry 6'6" 200 FR Charlotte, NC
F Ronald Roberts Jr. 6'8" 225 SR Bayonne, NJ
F Halil Kanacevic 6'8" 255 SR Staten Island, NY
Game is at 7 PM Tuesday Night in Philly on the CBS Sports Network... Time to extend the streak to 7 and remarkably finished the month of February at 7-0... Let's do it! Go Flyers!

This would be a great game to mix up our defense a little. Not necessarily the "z" word, but more trapping, pressing, double teaming. We have a distinct depth advantage. They have better experience and of course the home court advantage, not to mention they beat us in our place this year.
We need to force the tempo. Get some runouts. It starts with defensive stops and securing rebounds. Matt K really really did a great job down the stretch against the Dukes helping, getting in passing lanes and forcing things. We need more and better ball pressure from the guards (I like Scoochie's length and quickness better than Price for this).
I say first team to 70 wins. Can we go undefeated in the whole ILoveUD month? We have followed the traditional UD script so far this year - good early wins sprinkled with a couple head scratching losses (just watched the last 15 min of Cal holding off a suddenly-awful USC squad). Crap the bed in conference early, win enough games to be in the bubble discussion but then lose enough at the very end to make it more painful for us Flyer Faithful. Can DMO and Co. flip the script? I say why not? Yesterday was a classic trap game and we proved our toughness by fighting back down 18 on the road. We ain't coming back from down 18 to Joes but this team has the intestinal fortitude needed to win on the road.
Let's do it, Flyers!

Now that we're done playing the schmucks of the A10, this would be a great game show us all what they've learned during those games and finally play 40 minutes of hard-nosed, efficient and well coached basketball! Heck, I'll even settle for 38! Is that asking too much?!??
Go Flyers!

BIG, BIG game! I hope they come out ready to play, they can't afford to be down 14 at halftime.

I know that every remaining game is big, but have to agree that there is an exclamation point with this one. Seth Davis said this today:
"The good news: Dayton is back in the bid biz with six straight wins. The bad news: Those wins came against the bottom teams in the Atlantic 10. But how's this for a finish: At Saint Joseph's, home vs. UMass, at Saint Louis, home vs. Richmond. Three out of four would just about do it -- which would mean six teams dancing from the Atlantic 10. Remember, the Flyers have a terrific nonconference record with neutral court wins over Gonzaga and Cal plus a road win at Ole Miss."

We have got to stop the penetration of their two big guards. We owe Galloway for last time. Hopefully whoever guards him shuts him out.

Twice we have walked the ball up the floor instead of pushing it, we have too wear these guys out with our depth.
Twice we have made dumb turnovers
Once we ran the shot clock clear down.
Yank all 5 and sub in 5 guys who might want to play.

Another performance by Scott. He does not kick the ball out when double and triple teamed, and then left his man totally open on the last backdoor cut as he stood confused.

A time out should have been called within the first two minutes. You just can't continue to let it happen. At least try and stop the bleeding. Ugh!

This team isn't any better than it was at the beginning of conference play, it just got on a winning streak against lesser teams.
Finally, a timeout. What a concept Arch.

Our defenders constantly run at the open man and he fakes a shot or pass, we react and he dribbles right around him. Basic defensive basketball, stay on the ground. Do we teach? Do we emphasize it? No way.

That is true but the frustration you see is from a repetitive pattern that needs to change. None of us are going to stop watching but we are going to get mad.

I only hope they can lose by just 30. This will effectively demolish bubble talk huh?

How about 17 in the first half? SJU just looks way more prepared than UD...

Got right where we want them :)
Down 17 with a little over 8 minutes to go in the first half. Following our normal game script perfectly. Should be an easy win for us tonight.

UD's Men's Team
is incompetent on defense! The Coaches and the players have no clue.

Sibert chucks the three and just stands there watching the St. Joe's player hustle for the rebound.........UGHHHHH!!!! The softest playing Flyer team I can ever recall.

If this happens 1 or 2 times I can fault the players but these starts have been a habit and now I have to think it is a coaching issue.

I just don't get how they can walk out to center court this unprepared. This is a pattern every game lately.

This is what many of us refer to as lack of effort. We are slow to the defensive spot, slow to loose balls, slow on our passing and slow to rotate. That is a lack of effort. They want it and we are just participating.

I think its a great game plan by Archie. We only go 11 deep they run almost 6 guys out there so slow it down and let the game unfold at a slow pace. Pressing trying to get up and down the floor would be suicide.

Don't panic guys...all we have to do to get back on the bubble is beat St.Louis at St. Louis. Should be a piece of cake. They just lost a game in December right?

I'm really glad I didn't fall for the 6 game winning streak. I had a feeling all along it was just a result from the level of competition they were playing. Therefor, I expected this and am not nearly as ****ed off as I could have been.

I guess those that had their hopes are crushed. I bought in after Maui but they squandered that and I am not going to be burned a second time this season. The same problem, inability to commit to defending comes back again.

I've seen enough of Scott. It's obvious his priorities isn't with basketball anymore, which I understand. Wouldn't at all bother me to see him transfer after the season.

Bingo! Bball no longer a priority. Rightfully so for his family, not for a scholarship player.
Is (senior) DMO not allowed to rip into his teammates? Some leader...

the only player in the Junior and Senior class we will miss is DMO. The future is bright.
