Interesting rule-possession arrow

In Texas Tech-Florida St. game.

Florida St shoots and ball wedges in rim. Possession arrow Florida St. During inbound attempt, T Tech fouls. Florida St gets FTs and the possession arrow stays with them because foul was committed before they got to inbounds due to possession arrow.

How many here knew this rule?

Yes but I am an official, so I presume I don’t get any extra credit.

As Sir dnutz knows, the arrow doesn't change directions until the ball is touched in-play.

If you're used to watching youth games, the kids/parent in charge of the arrow typically changes it as soon as the ref hands the ball to the player who is in-bounding it...which is wrong but also takes too much time to explain so you just move on and hope nothing stupid happens.

Yes but I was a coach for many tears, so I presume I don't get any extra credit either.

So you do the noble thing and close your eyes to any fouls that might occur before the inbounds? Sounds like the smart thing to do anyway.

I have no problem explaining rules to CYO and youth coaches, because they are mostly parents trying to help kids learn basketball and have never seen a rulebook.

But I'm amazed how many HS and AAU coaches don't know simple rules like a 5-second call, over-AND-back and over-THE-back.

And as a coach I was always amazed at how many officials didn't know many of those same rules...at least in CT anyway.
