Lightbulb Is the next Antetokounmpo on track for an NBA leap?

Dayton redshirt freshman Kostas Antetokounmpo, the 20-year-old brother of the Bucks' MVP candidate, is impressing scouts with his long-term potential. What's his NBA outlook?

Rest of the story...

He made 9 fg in four games. Hardly ready to move to next level yet. He needs to play more minutes. 15 a game is not nearly enough.

Agree, mostly under his control. Stay out of foul trouble, and conditioning.

Where is this Kostas is not in shape stuff coming from? Someone just throws that out there, and people run with it. I saw all three games in person and he looked fine. Playing Kostas 20 feet from the basket on offense when he cannot beat good players off the dribble is not going to make it happen, especially against good front line players like ODU had.

As to fouls he had two each game. Grant plays him 26 minutes in game one and about 15 in games two and three. He barely saw the floor in the second half of the last two games.

The talk of Kostas going pro has nothing to do with who he is as a basketball player, and everything to do with his last name. Has some very good skills, but just silly talk at this point.

He is basically Josh Benson right now. He has a higher ceiling than Benson because he is longer and a better shot blocker, but if his last name wasn't Antetokounmpo there would be no talk of him as an NBA prospect right now.

You may have answered your own question there. The concern is that due to his injury over the summer and the passing of his father, he has had very little practice time and very little time with the coaching/training staff compared to the other players.

He has been effective when he has played, but has played more than 15 minutes just once. The assumption is that he is still working back into shape from being away from the team.

Could be wrong - but it doesn't seem that far-fetched either.

It takes a few weeks to get in game shape...not a few months. Don't confuse an injury this summer with the ability to be conditioned.

Nagging leg injury that impacts the ability to move, cut, etc...I buy that as I had an injury that happened before a season and limited mobility for months once I was cleared to play...but at no time did my ability to run the floor and be in "game shape" have ill effects...and I was in no way, shape, or form the athlete that Kostas is. He could play the entire game right now if the coaching staff wanted him to.

Preparing Kostas for the next level is hardly on Anthony's bucket list. Kostas has to be appreciably better than the other bigs in strength, defense, court savvy, and basketball skill to earn playing time. Then the stat sheet filling up will have some meaning. Dayton has to win before the conversation can heat up. He's got all the right natural tools to begin the process.

During his first radio show of the season AG talked about his lack of court time and conditioning.

I would prefer that Kostas play limited minutes now with the payoff of being ready for the in conference part of the schedule.

Had someone friends at the games in charleston. All claimed he was gassed.

Kostas himself made the comment that he was not fully conditioned for gametime yet, that he was working really hard to catch up, and that increased conditioning was the key to be able to play longer in a game.
And yes, we say him in Charleston and he was very definitely gassed. This is not an issue of the coaches not playing him . . . he needs to be able to play more minutes, recover between games, and compete with others on the team he is vying with. Right now he isn't able to command a lot of additional playing time. . .but he will. He has the ambition, the talent and the motivation. Just remember, he is a freshman . . . .

And for heaven's sake, what is this nonsense about the coaches holding him back. Get real.

Was he that gassed that he couldn't play 5, 3, 1 minute in the second half? Part of the cause of jacking up all those 3s may have been the guys on the floor were gassed. DD and Cunningham could have used a couple of minutes to catch their breath in the 2nd half.

Kostas was gassed when he played 26 minutes the first game, but not at 14-15 minutes in game one or two. A kid in his 20's gets gassed and goes to the bench for a few minutes and he is ready to go.

Agree that one pass, throw up a three possessions are not good. Not sure that problem is connected to Kostas playing time. OK guys, since conditioning's not the issue keeping him off the floor, what is?

Right - and he he's only been back with the team a few weeks. Still getting back in shape.

It was a leg injury - he wasn't able to stay in basketball shape - that takes time. He will get there soon, but he's not at a point where he can play 3 games in 4 days.
