I've "heard" but not read anything about an old timers game before Sat Duquense game.

I was in Donoher Center post game Ole Miss and overheard Keith Waleskowski say he was playing in old timers game Sat. My son received a txt about OT game. Why the secrecy?

All former Flyers have been invited to the Duquesne game on 1/3, so an oldtimers tilt makes perfect sense.

Why the secrecy?
Is it a half time?
If before game it'd have to start at 11:30ish
After the game?

Overall, we look bad. Missing everything, layups, free throws and threes. We should be up big but only lead by two. Need to settle down.

We have missed four layups we were fouled on, and only hit 2-8 free throws off of those fouls.

I have a major man crush on Wehrli. This kid is working his butt off on D.
He will get decent playing time even next year when we have a full bench again.
Love his hustle and hard work.

Looking ahead to the second half, I want to see Gruden (assume he is next on the depth chart) get some quality minutes EARLY on and throughout the half, assuming we keep a nice double digit lead. At some point this year he will be forced to play in a tough situation, lets break him in now.

2 Minutes into the second half, we are up 18
14 assists on 17 made FG's..... Love the ball movement
Granted it helps Duquesne is the laziest team on defense I have seen in quite sometime, no movement at all.

Archies Grade
Yes we are up 19 with 11 to go, but at this point I give Archie a D for his coaching, based 100% on the fact he has not got our 8th man into the rotation yet. We have 17 regular season games to go plus post season. I do not care if they are walk ons or not, our 8th man has a pulse and will be needed at some point in a much closer game.

So Rogers hasn't moved off the bench?? Up 19...now or never.

If Joey Gruden gets quality minutes...For the first time this year, I will say we will be in trouble.
Plus, I expect Detwon to return at some point

We are only 10-20 on freethrows. We need to clean that up if we hope to win any games this year.

Which is my point in saying give him minutes in this game, early in the 2nd half before mop up time. It will be a small miracle if everyone stays out of foul trouble, healthy, and injury free in every game going forward.
And I sure hope your right about Detwon, but at this point I am assuming we enver see him and if we do and we get quality minutes out of him that will be a plus.

UD wins 81 - 55. Love to watch this team but very concerned about a fracture or the flu or foul trouble. 11 - 2 and 8 - 0 at home.

No doubt about the POG today, Schoochie. 16 pts, 8 assists and only 1 turnover. 8-12 shooting the ball.
Scoochie has like 3 turnovers in the last 4 games.

I agree 100%, just I don't want to play him just to play him. If he isn't any good. Wehrli has some talent on the other hand.

A10 blow out...
When was the last time UD won an A10 game by 26 points? I'll bet it's been awhile...ever?
After the shake-up we caught a break...four home games. Now on the road.

Just curious...what other choice do we have?
This was a 20 point game the entire second half, give the kid a chance with 4 regulars on the floor. At some point this year we will have to give him a chance in a 2 point game, not a 20 point game (hoping I am wrong- but am realistic too)
Go Flyers!

Having spent 30+ years in the ad sales business, I can tell you that 1st quarter (particularly the month of January) is death valley for paying customers. Cable nets end up running a tom of PI (per inquiry) ads like No-No, which is conveniently long enuf to take up an entire commercial break. NBCSN is no exception.

Really? A "D" for his coaching because he didn't play a walkon? How about an A+ for not allowing the team to quit despite the tremendous adversity??!! How about an A+ for keeping this team very much in the A-10 title and NCAA hunt if they continue to play this way??!!

Because we all know that during remaining 17 conference games, the six scholarship players will all be 100%. AM is such an amazing coach that he can magically heal any problem that might impact our thin line-up....

Clayton gave Arch a "D" for his failure to clear his bench for real time exposure...and only that! I can't speak for Clayton, but, in light of the punch the Flyers have taken, probably he and most of college basketball are asking "how'd he end up with a better team?"
However, could be that Arch needs to see how much gas his players have over an extended time.
Good question to ask him at a post-game interview.

I don't care how much Joey Gruden plays in this or any other game. If he gets quality minutes in A10 games, the likelihood if a win is very low. UD is going to win or lose with 7 playing if Rogers and Bass don't.
And it isn't unheard of. Temple and St Joes have both won the league seldom playing more than 6.

I agree, GaTech went to the final four with Lethal Weapons III and only played 7. BUT there is a huge difference with only playing 7 and only HAVING 7. Those Temple and St. Joes teams didn't just have 6 or 7 schollies did they?

Great game
We could not expect more out of this 7 man rotation.
.........All that needs to be said
However, I am always amazed how many folks sit on their butt (80% ?)
when the rest of the house stands up and goes mad after a good run, leading to a TO, etc.
Just amazing

Rogers
Was Rogers on the bench in street clothes? I saw SeasonTicket Fan said Rogers and Bass were on the bench in street clothes. So I guess there is still hope Rogers will be back this season?

No, they did not. They never played the others much at all. But they did have them for practice bodies. That is where the lack if depth hurts. Practice has to be MUCH lighter. More game day walk through type on a more frequent basis.
When they do scrimmage I bet a coach or manager or two have to suit up. With three walk ons, Steve and six scholarship players they have the minimum to run a full court scrimmage. 5 minutes and that is about done. May help Steve get in shape.

The other choice we apparently have is to not play him, and trounce Duquesne by 26 points. I don't understand the concern. If he is being given a chance in a 2 point game, we probably aren't going to win that game. You are right that someone might go down, but we will cross that bridge when we come to it.
Also, are we sure it is Gruden who would step in and play if someone else were to go down? William Dupuy was on the team last year, so he might be the better option. There is also Nick Haldes, a 6'3 freshman. Let's not assume he's the guy just because of his last name.

Archie said on the the TV postgame that the problem is not having enough players in practice to do some of the things he needs to practice. I think this implies that most of the walkons are not competitive with the 7, who play.
If I have a choice between playing walk-ons or to condition the 7 to play hard for 40 minutes, it is a no brainer. Fortunately it is not any of our opinions that matter. It is getting pretty hard to question anything Archie does, because he is right about 99% of the time.

Oh, I am very satisfied with the results of the game and the way the team keeps stepping up to the next challange and playing better with each passing game. If your super bored and you read back through my hundreds of posts, for the most part I am one of the happiest red and blue glass wearing Koolaid drinking posters on here. Great coaching by Archie (of the guys he had on the floor) this year. Archie appears to learn from his mistakes, seems to have recruited a much better group of guys with each incoming class, and no doubt about it is one of the best young coaches in the country. I am loving every minute of this.
My one and only complaint is that the 8th man on the depth chart did not get quality minutes. First of all, I never once said Gruden, I said "8th man"
Yes, I know we are possibly in trouble if that 8th man is getting quality minutes in a 2 point game. I just feel that 8th man might be a bit more relaxed if he had a bit of experience already being on the floor with 4 of our regulars, at a point in time that actually mattered a bit, such as yesterday early on in the 2nd half.
I do not expect our 8th man to score 6 points or be an all star, or even to develop to the point Wehrli has. I just want to see us have an option to go to for a couple of minutes, to keep any of our regulars from picking up their 3rd foul of the first half, give someone a much needed breather, etc....without sacrificying the quality of defense, hustle, and team chemistry on the floor.
Did we think 2 years ago Bobby Wehrli would ever give us the quality minutes we are getting now? Not saying Halden, Dupuy, or Gruden will be the next Bobby Wehrli, or the next Ron Baker at Witchita State. I am just saying give them time now, to get over the big stage fright, so if and when they are called upon, we can get a few quality minutes from them.
I am hoping a situation never arises this year that the 8th man is needed, and you all can continue to laugh your butts off at my stupid idea as one person called it. But I am realistic enough to know that with 17 games plus the post season left, it will be a miracle like we have never seen before if we are not in a situation that our 8th man has to step in for at least a couple minutes.
Go Flyers! Loving this run we are on.

Are any graduated Flyers available to help out with practice. I'm pretty sure I've read about UConn NBA players practicing with the team when they are available and/or in town.
I don't know the NCAA rules re this sort of thing. But, if allowed, if even one former Flyer was in shape and living close by it could help.

Great idea, thinking out of the box, but I think NCAA rules do not allow non-students for in-season practices.
