Duquesne
Next up are the Duquesne Dukes sporting a 2-0 record. I live streamed part of the game against Bucknell yesterday and must say they are the real deal. They are led by their redshirt Jr QB Dillon Buechel. When I was watching the game, he was passing at will to his receivers. Coming out of HS here in WPA, a lot of folks thought he was Div 1 FBS worthy. Not sure why he did not get any offers from FBS schools. However, it is now clear to everyone he should have. He is a good pocket passer but also runs the ball when the opportunity arises. Their main receivers are King and Capers. Capers is the son of former Steeler Wayne Capers and is an exceptional athlete. He started his career at Arizona and then transferred back home to Duquesne. In the Bucknell game, Capers had more yards rushing than he did receiving. They also have a host of good running backs led by Fulmer, a true freshman from here in the Pittsburgh area. The Dukes run a no huddle, hurry up offense the entire game. They are just as formidable on defense. The defense is led by senior LB Martello who had 15 tackles against Bucknell. They are solid across the board on defense, especially in the LB corps. One of their LBs, Williams, is a transfer from Purdue University.
The Flyers will need to bring their A plus game to defeat the Dukes. We will have to have a plan to hurry Buechel to get rid of the ball before he wants to. If we cannot stop their passing game, we will be in for a long day. On offense, we will need to maintain possession and keep the ball away from the Dukes offense. Hopefully are running game gets churning and we are able to sustain a couple of long drives.
Regardless, just like last year, we have an opportunity to defeat the Dukes if we play a solid game across the board. We have had two weeks to prepare and that should help us out. This week’s game is going to tell us a lot about our upcoming PFL season. Let’s GO Dayton Flyers!!!!

While a win would certainly boost our status as a contender in the PFL, a loss would not have a negative effect on our chances in the PFL. Our win at RMU was enhanced by their strong performance at YSU yesterday. Dukes will always be a tough game for us, winnable yes, but as our record against them shows, a tough non conference foe.

Or join The Flyers' Club tailgate. $7 includes hot dogs, brats, Metz, sodas and beer. We'll be in our usual spot in the corner of the UD Arena parking lot.

Be sure to line up in the parking lot and create a path for the player walk to the stadium beginning a few minutes before noon before every home game.
Go Flyers!!

UD is an 11 point under dog for this game.
Dusquesne is very good this year. Pass first offense is lead by an experienced QB with a GREAT stable of receivers (all-american and 2 FBS transfers). Their quick running back was freshman of the week last week.
Dusquesne defense is strong and hits hard with some outstanding linebackers.
Dayton's hard-fought win was against a Robert Morris team that took Youngstown State (top 20 FCS team) to overtime last week.
This game will be a true measure of how good the Flyers are this year.

Keys to Success
Tough match-up.
Keys to success this week (IMHO)...
Offense: - Control the ball (35+ minutes), keep away from Duq offense
- Counter off of Connor - Counters, play action & bootlegs (they will key Connor)
- Go deep - get them out of the box
- Limit turnovers to 1 or less - can not afford mistakes
Defense: - Penetrate backfield - pressure QB & TFLs to create unfavorable down/distance
- Don't surrender big play to their good receivers - keep it in front and double team all america
- Create turnover (at least 3) - hit hard, play fast, gang tackle
Special teams: - No mistakes - block for kicks and then fast coverage
- Win field position
Looking forward to family weekend and a great game.

Duquesne Game Notes
http://www.goduquesne.com/sports/m-f...091615aab.html
They have a good team. The notes are a reminder that we got whipped last year, primarily due to the big play...a long interception return for a TD, a long punt return for a TD and a long TD pass play. Eliminating big plays is essential for the Flyers.
They have very good returners for both punts and kicks. We need our -A- game on special teams. Out of bounds punts and squib kicks (maybe even an early surprise onside) are OK to prevent big plays by their special teams.
The DU game notes have a tone of confidence...maybe even a presumption that DU will beat UD.
Let's hope the Flyer's bring their their best and make this a great football game!

Good game plan FBUD. They should put you on the coaching staff. Only thing that I think may be a problem is you "go deep." Not sure if we have the speed at receiver to get over the top on them (no Gary Hunter or Brandon Johnson on the team this year). I would not be surprised if they load the box to stop the run and press our receivers on the theory that we won't be able to run by them. However, Eurit might give us an option on some deep jump balls with his height.

One of my favorite least favorite games every year. Consistently a tough opponent and luckily we play them at home this year, as that's the only place we seem to be able to beat them. That being said game plan is straight forward and FBUD hit it on the head. CK pound out some yardage (100+), defense make their QB mobile, don't give up the big play and win the kicking game. IMHO their QB is the all around best QB we'll see all year. Yes the kid in the J****sonville (refuse to call cheaters by name) is quite the highlight show and MSU has an airmail specialist but I'd take Dillon B. over both in a heartbeat. That being said I hope he has the worst game of his career tomorrow.
Flyers offense has to put up 24 or more for a win, our defense won't be able to win this game for us, the Dukes offense is too good. Could be wrong but thinking back to past games and seeing Dukes first 2 games that just my opinion. I think AJ should get the nod for the Flyers but don't be surprised if Blake is put in if AJ can't get the job done. Another opinion based statement, this game will determine who is the Flyers starting QB the rest of the year.
Can't wait for kickoff. Go Flyers!!

Statistical 1st half tie but we're down 3.
Shame that Dayton's red jerseys don't have numbers on them. Thought it was a rule to wear numbers.
One second score post on the monitor is too quick for me...need to wait for announcer to tell me the score.
Wish we had some rain here!
Go Flyers whoever you are, and beat the Dukes!

Don't understand the thinking with the redesign of the uniform almost every year. these home uniforms are poor. can't see the numbers. Find a good design and stick with it. Some of the 'new' uniforms teams were are a joke. watching a bit of the USF-Maryland game. Now the Terps unis are comical, helmets from hell.

1-11 on 3d down, 1-1 on 4th down. Hard to sustain drives when you can't convert on 3d down. We are playing the Dukes even, that bodes well for the rest of the season regardless of how this game turns out.

A: Yes.
The NEC institutions are allowed up to 40 football scholarships that can be divided among an unlimited number of football student-athletes (meaning partials, in some instances).

Schollies
Duquesne gives out 40 full scholarship equivalents each year. Their roster is chocked full of Div I transfers (e.g., Capers from Arizona).

Pushy
Surprised by our win...congrats to the team & coaches.
Thought that maybe Kacsor lost a step after watching the R-M game but it was more about him running north-south with power rather than all the side-stepping.
Apparently Duquesne wasn't really tested by Kentucky Christian & Bucknell. They failed the test at Dayton for sure. They got pushed around a lot in their 4th qtr at Welcome.
At one time I said that if the Dukes had our receivers they would have won. But later rescinded that to needing our whole team to win. Their OL & DL got pushed around for sure.

PFL Players of the Week
Congrats to Kascor and Stubbs for being named the PFL players of the week! Very deserving by both young men. Second time in two games a Flyer has been named the defensive player of the week.

It was a pleasure watching the big win Saturday. The defense played very well though the pass rush could have been better. The corners and safeties played exceptional.
Connor amazes me how he makes people miss and how quickly he gets through the smallest of holes.
Keep up the good work Flyers

Does anyone know if the video for this game is available somewhere online? I've looked all over the internet and can't find it. I was at the game, but was hoping to re-watch the video and "critique" that RS-Fr. QB making his first start. Thanks in advance.

i'm not sure how soon it would be available but you might try to contact Time Warner who televised the game. I know they were available after they televised high school games
It was a pleasure briefly meeting you before the game. Hopefully the nervousness went away quickly

The Elusive Game Replay
One of the problems Flyerillini has is not living in the Buckeye State!
Now then, Time Warner broadcast the game in Ohio for sure, not certain about interlopers from other states. But we're glad to have those Illinois athletes.
Perhaps Illini has another problem like having DirecTV like me.
I watched the game on my computer and while the start showed that "neulion" was the presenter, I listened to Larry Hansgen (WHIO) & Coach Kelly. They had the audio neatly sycronized & the two knew & remembered that often they were still live on the webcast while WHIO radio was doing a commercial or program ad. This part of Dayton's football presentation is much improved from the holy terror it once was a mere 7 years ago. And the feed went all the way to the game's end & incl. the singing of alma mater. The score & Qtr graphic took about half the game to figure out but we love progress no matter how slow.
After reading "dad's" dilemma here, I searched & found 3 min of highlights and to my surprise, the audio was two young dudes not our WHIO older gentlemen. here's a link to that... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nxh-...o#action=share
Perhaps the QB would actually be the one to snoop around the office & campus to come up with a link to the game & that might take until Thursday or Friday before it is finalized. Pioneer League is not near the top of things to do for sports video folks.
Good Luck

Coach's Radio Show
Hoorah, I remembered the Rick Chamberlin Monday radio show!
Guess who the guests were....Cameron Stubbs & Alex Jeske! Fine young men who both knew about UD B4 UD recruiters knew them.
Coach used two terms that I couldn't come up with on the Forum Saturday but were exactly my feeling...we had physicality, they were a big group and we wore them down. The other was that we were a confident gang of players. A Duquesne lineman told Chamberlin that we play the game hard for 60 minutes, unlike any other opponents.
