Austin Peay Game Thread
The Real Season is here! No more secret simmages and no more exhibitions... I have no doubt Archie will have the guys ready for another run at the A-10 crown in the 4 seniors final season!
Hopefully Kendall is ready to go
Game is on Friday at 7 PM
Starting Lineup for the Governors:
G 4 Josh Robinson 6’2” 185 JR St. Louis, Missouri
G 32 John Murry 6’3” 195 SR Indianapolis, Indiana
F 2 Jared Savage 6’5” 195 SO Bowling Green, Kentucky
F 3 Chris Porter-Bunton 6’5” 217 RS SO Bowling Green, Kentucky
F 42 Kenny Jones 6’6” 198 SR South Bend, Indiana
Robinson & Jones are easily their two best players... In their 2 exhibition games (Robinson 26.5 PPG 6 APG, Jones 20 PPG 8 RPG)
Let's get off to a solid start before we head to Tuscaloosa to face Avery Johnson's squad... Go UD!

Archie Miller says Dayton anticipating going into opener without Pollard. Status is day to day. Hopes to return to practice later this week.

Archie Miller says Kyle Davis is good to go for opener. Limped off court in final minutes Friday. Just cramps.

Please Come Early for Steve's Tribute
"A tribute to the late UD center, who died May 12 at 20 at his family’s home in Fort Wayne, Ind., of an enlarged heart, will begin about five minutes before the game. An exact schedule will be released by the university later this week, but the timing is expected to be similar to a Senior Night."
http://www.mydaytondailynews.com/new...-opener/ns5GS/
Archie decided to only go with a pregame tribute and nothing else during the game as was mentioned as a possibility earlier. So if you can, come early and be in your seats for this tribute. It would be shame if the arena seats are half empty as they usually are at tip-off on a weekday night.

So I know I can stream this but this isn't getting picked up by any of the obscure sports networks carried on the cable packages is it? I am traveling and forgot to search thru my tv listings. Might try to talk a sports bar into showing if it was being carried. Pretty sure it's not but figured someone here can answer more definitively. Thanks.

Hard to find much info on the Governors.... but found this on OCVSports.com:
"Austin Peay will look to get back into the OVC Tournament field for the first time since 2012 as head coach Dave Loos, the winningest coach in OVC history, begins his 30th season as a head coach and 26th season with the Governors. Loos is one of just six Division I active coaches to be at the same school for 25 or more seasons. APSU has three starters back from last year’s team including preseason All-OVC selection Chris Horton. The senior center enters his final year in Clarksville ranked No. 2 in OVC history in blocked shots (262). A season ago Horton averaged a double-double with 13.1 points and 11.1 rebounds/game, becoming the first Austin Peay player to average a double-double since the 1990-91 season. Also back is sophomore guard Josh Robinson who averaged 9.9 points/game and knocked down 44 3-pointers during his rookie campaign."

Shooting 57% and 41 from threes to their 33 and 20. Being outrebounded by a very small team, who has missed more shots than us, 21-17. Only 5 turnovers and 5 blocked shots.

Would love to see the first game but I have to admit it is not bad at all to listen to Bucky & Larry call the first game and give his view of the team. Good opportunity to get everyone into the game.

52 at Loyola Chicago. He also had a game at Xavier of 44 points. But the Arena record is Austin Carr in NCAA game against Ohio U with 61 and for a Flyer at UD arena it's Negele Knight 42 against Detroit.

Garbage time matters for advanced metrics which matter more and more for NCAA Tourney Selection and seed. 91-57 and 9-0 run from AP. Pathetic this stuff matters but it does.

Trey Landers sure picked up 4 fouls real quick. John Crosby looks a lot less selfish with the ball so far.

We shot well, played very good defense and rebounded okay in the second half. Long way to go on our zone offense.

The point that was being made was that Larry was not doing the call, it was Tom Michaels.

I was at the game and was absolutely amazed at the level of energy on both sides of the court. Truly, Charles looked like a man among boys out there. I would call it an "NBA-like performance." Scoochie looked good - was stroking the ball nicely and did a superb job at the point. DD looked like he has his stroke back. He also took the ball to the hole on several occasions. I think it was his best games since his freshman year. Mikesell has definitely improved his defense...moves his feet much better. Cunningham was in foul trouble, but he is a real load down low. I really like the way he finishes. Kyle Davis had a nice floor game and brought a ton of energy on defense. X Williams was OK, but I believe he is much more effective in the paint than outside. He took several outside shots and barely drew iron. John Crosby had some nice passes on the breaks and from the point. Trey Landers is an interesting player - lots of energy, built like an outside linebacker, and didn't try to force anything. He did get four fouls in eight minutes of play. He is Kyle Davis in a 6'4"/220 pound frame and very, very athletic. Sam looked OK, but on the defensive end he seems like he is stuck in cement. Although on the offensive side, I thought he played pretty well. Charles certainly stole the evening, though. Truly, he looked like an NBA wing player out there tonight. Overall, I thought it was an outstanding effort...much better than the Findlay debacle.

Sam is a shooter. Flyers need to use him to space the floor, get him away from the rim

The pre-game video of Big Steve, followed by the presentation to the family of his championship ring - very very emotional. Brought a tear to this old man's eye.

Dont think this is right? Negele posted that number at Callahan. I thought Crosswhite has the Flyer Arena record.

Uniforms
Who designed the new uniforms. They look like practice unis to me, especially the pants...and isn't "blue" one of UD's colors?

From Jablonski's A-Z pre-seseason series:
"For decades, Dayton’s uniforms didn’t vary much. Only in recent years has the program gone with bold new looks. Graduate assistant manager Brian Frank has played a big role in designing uniforms in recent years, and the players had a say in the jerseys Dayton will wear this season."

The Nike template UD chose is very simple and has a gradient pattern that is basically only on the shorts and only able to be seen up close. As you watch college basketball games this year you will see a ton of teams that are using the same exact Nike uniform template. I'm pretty sure there are at least 3 other teams in the A10 using the same ones, and a ton of other teams all over the country.

Did he decide that blue was no longer one of UD's colors?

They didn't play a ton of zone... We made at least one three that I can recall against their zone D.
I stopped keeping track, but on their first three baseline out of bounds plays, we outscored them 2-0 (!!) - had a steal for a bucket the other way, and another forced turnover. We did okay in the halfcourt, but certainly our best offense was transition, early offense stuff. Mikesell had a couple look-what-I-found rebound stickbacks. Cooke was a killer in transition.
