Well, 2:45 away w/the lead. After all the crap in this game, we couldn't have asked to be in a better position. Play smart, get good shots, and someone find a way to get Holloway tossed out of the game. Get it done UD!!!

That's a pretty ballsy run, I think. I'll admit it: the sports pessimist in me expected them to fold once the lead got to six. Too many years of my teams sack punching me, I think.

Wright missed more free throws by himself (2-7) than the entire Xavier team did the entire game (25-29). They did what they needed to do to win and we didn't. Wright really killed us tonight with his free throw shooting and turnovers.

Kav with the absolute bone head play of the year. Short arms a two when we are down by 3. Did he not know the score? There were two guys on the perimeter waiting for the ball. Dumb play!!

It's really a shame that you put yourself into a good position, but an inability to make free throws kills your chances. As a team UD finished 14-20. Players not named Chris Wright were 12-13 from the line. Xavier made five more FTs than UD attempted, and we left too many points on the table.

Agreed! I thought the game changed on the blocking foul on Benson! We were playing catch up after that!
We beat X on the boards!
They beat us on the FT line!
They only turned the ball over 5 times - yes 5 times for the game!
Holloway made some crazy shots down the stretch! I know it is tough to admit and several will want to blame CW but you have to give X credit. They played a good ballgame!

If he makes foul shots tonight, Dayton wins...Maybe that's really the only difference over the years between X and UD. X consistently makes their foul shots, Dayton consistently doesn't over the years...

might have been their best offensive game of the season. They took good shots. If they played with the same mental toughness every game they could get where they wanted to go. Staten definitely grew up. Played great D that possession on Holloway and he made a really tough shot

The entire teams free throw shooting was part of the equation, not just Wright's missed free throws. Last I checked, Wright wasn't the only person who shot (and missed) free throws tonight.
And as much as I hate to even put it out there, the refs didn't help much either. Can't entirely blame them, but man there were some periods of time that seemed to be extremely lopsided in X's favor. Even the commentators made mention of the lopsided amount of fouls.

Really??? What was poor coaching? Twice came back from 6 point deficits after 10 minute mark. PW had an open look to tie it. The right X players were fouled down the stretch.
Maybe, maybe CJ took an early in the shot clock 3 with about 2 minutes to play, but he was on fire. X turned the ball over 5 times for the whole game, they outshot us at the foul line.
I don't know how you call this game poorly coached, especially down the stretch!

The rest of the team was 12-13 at the line, outside of CW. Juwan missed the front end of an one-and-one in the 1st half.

I agree. I thought the offensive flow was really good tonight. Even Gillen commented on it. The right players got the ball in the right situations tonight. PW makes that open three and we might be having a different discussion.

You're right he doesn't. But it should ALWAYS be a priority to improve that statistic...and it never does at UD AND THAT is the coaches responsibility. No excuse to miss this many free throws. When you consistently as a team shoot less than 70%, that means it's NOT being stressed enough BY THE COACHING STAFF - and the buck stops with BG. Free throws is practice, practice, practice. Another .500 season in the A10. At least UD will be able to defend the NIT title.

Maybe, maybe CJ took an early in the shot clock 3 with about 2 minutes to play, but he was on fire. X turned the ball over 5 times for the whole game, they outshot us at the foul line.
I don't know how you call this game poorly coached, especially down the stretch!

Why in the world would you let Tu Holloway go one on one with a minute left. Pick their worst foul shooter, and intentionally foul him. Tu is money as he proved tonight over and over and over.

"So based on your keen logic, you should blame Juwan for losing the game as well."
Based on my keen logic, I think everyone kept us in the game except for Chris Wright. FT was not the problem, outside of him. The lack of getting to the line, piled on top of Tu/Frease/McLean getting their constantly is what helped lose it.
All I did was point out who was the miss. I wasn't blaming them at all.

What are you talking about??? As I said above, all I did was post FACTS, and didn't accuse a single person of anything about losing the game.

Huh? So you would have had them foul Frease with 1 minute to play and down by 1? That makes no sense. Frease finished 6-8 from the line. He had just made a freethrow 30 seconds prior and they are in the double bonus. Holloway made a circus shot over your best defender PW on what was pretty good defense.
We will have to agree to disagree, but down 1 with a minute to play I don't think there is a coach in the country who is going to foul.
