Pollard out for UMass game with Achilles strain
I know this was already noted in the game thread, but for those who hasn't clicked in that thread yet, that's the news, per Dave Jablonski (and Matt of FlyerHoops). Bummer for him on his birthday!

Kendall Pollard is without crutches, walking with a boot. Was told he could probably play today if he had to.

Just turn d on the game and heard. If it's the Achilles, don't mess around with it. Get it healed up for the long haul!

Been there; done that. A sprained Achilles feels like a coil spring is broken in your ankle. The only thing you can do is rest it.

How serious is this? AM said "and hopefully we'll get Kendall Pollard back at some point" in his post game interview with Allie LaForce.

I saw somewhere it said that he could have played today. I bet he is out against LAS and plays against Davidson next week.

Technically you can't sprain your Achilles. It's either torn, or it's not.
It's likely 'Tennis Leg', which is a strain of the gastroc muscle.
http://en.coaching.itftennis.com/med...036/108036.pdf
Recovery time is based on the degree of the strain. Best path for him to recover quickly is to rest aggressively and reassess.

Allie LaForce kept calling it a tear in pregame and with Archie's comment post game, I'm very concerned.

Allie must be a doctor.
If it's torn, he's out for the year. That doesn't seem to be the case considering people have stated he could have gone tonight if needed, and it's a 'strain'. Plus Archie said in pregame radio it's not a tear, and they dodged a bullet on that front. So we know it's not a tear.
Just trying to help educate people on what the injury actually is in all likelihood.

I read that he sustained the injury on Tuesday right in front of Coach Miller. Glad it isn't worse, but KP needs to take it easy and let it heal!!

Isn't a "strain" a slight tear?

In pre-game, AM said it was a non-contact injury. He just stepped wrong. They expected the worse but the news coming back from the med center was good news. It was not torn. Would have been done for the year if it was torn. Labeled it a strain. Didn't know how long it would take to heal, but they were not going to take any chances with the recovery.

I'm disappointed every time I hear her talk. She stumbles and bumbles every time. Maybe it's just when I'm tuned in.

Sprains deal with ligaments
Strains deal with muscles and/or tendons.
Both could be stretches or tears. The explanation given on radio hinted that the Achilles was stretched but wasn't specific but under medical disclosure rules, I'm not sure anyone is allowed to say anything more than what was stated last night.

I would say no. While Pollard may have incurred a tensile force on his Achilles to cause deformation, he did not exceed the strain necessary to cause a rupture.

Yesterday was Kendall's 21st birthday, which means he turned 21 Tuesday night at midnight. Maybe we really don't have the true story. Anybody have pictures of Kendal in a wig? Or with his dog?

Or in Vegas, or driving with expired plates.

My guess is that Pollard dresses for LaSalle but doesn't play unless absolutely necessary. Rest him up for a big week with Davidson and GW following that.

UMass beat LAS in Philly. If we need Pollard in that game, I am not so sure I want to be watching.
