Arkansas Game Thread
Biggest Non-Con Game of the year... Enough Said! Go win in Bud Walton Arena, I believe!
Game is at 2 PM and will be shown on ESPN2.
Starting Lineup:
G 5 Anthlon Bell 6'3" 185 JR Memphis, TN
G 0 Rashad Madden 6'5" 182 SR Lepanto, AR
G 24 Michael Qualls 6'6" 205 JR Shreveport, LA
F 2 Alandise Harris 6'6" 230 RS SR Little Rock, AR
F 10 Bobby Portis 6'11" 242 SO Little Rock, AR
Bobby Portis is a BEAST! Their best player by far... Could be a potential lottery pick in the upcoming NBA Draft.
Major Test on Saturday... Go out and beat them!
Go Flyers!

We will need Robinson to step up, as Scott will physically and foul-wise be challenged.

E$PIN airing Pop Warner football is a joke.
It's pretty cool to have Bob Knight call the UD game. I'm looking forward to his insight.

We cannot hit a 3 to save our life.
That looked like a charge to me.

Would've been more interesting if it happened during the O'brien years. He would've picked apart everything the Flyers did and attributed it to poor coaching. We would've gotten the real Bobby Knight attitude.

As a fan, the block-charge decision is unbelievably maddening. Despite referees' best efforts, it's just so inconsistently decided.

I just hope we don't get blown out.
Playing this team and against this press makes me realize just how much I miss DMO and Khari.
KP and Scoochie are playing like sophomores today.

Too many lazy passes against this press. That will get you killed.
We shoot way too many 3 pointers for being such a lousy 3 pt shooting team.
Arky getting all the calls, which is expected.

Playing horrifically, but getting homered also.
The 2 steals and missed lay-ups, we did not foul (particularly the first one called on Scoochie). That was a foul on Arkansas on the offensive rebound by Scott -- pushed by 2 guys?!?!?

come on coach Knight tell some Donoher stories, I did meet him while working in the PAC back in 85 when he came to see coach Donoher, I was checking ids in the fieldhouse and he came by and asked me about a books I was reading. Knight is sounding like another SEC shill ESPN is becoming known for

This might not be pretty but it will be a good learning experience. Their pressure is forcing our guards to play out of control. They aren't playing afraid, just out of control.

I've given up any hope of winning this game, not that I had much to begin with. I just want to see these guys fight until the bitter end, no giving up. I wouldn't expect anything less from this coaching staff and team.

If we get comfortable handling their press there are all kinds of open shots to be had. We need to figure out how to break the press.

I found Knight's observation about playing too close to the baseline on offense interesting. Our offensive spacing is bad.

7 man rotation for the rest of the game -- 5 starters + Bass + Pollard.
Robinson cannot complete at this level (perhaps just because his current physical problems) and D. Davis is not strong enough yet.
Arkansas shooting 57% from 2 & 3 -- unlikely to continue. Need to cut it to 10 at half. Last year we were down like 15-18 to Gonzaga and cut it to like 9-10 by halftime with a 2 minute run if my memory serves me right.

It also seems like there are plenty of available open shots when Dayton's quickly moving the ball. We're missing far too many open shots (along with some other deficiencies).

We don't have an inside guy who can concern arkansas. the only way we could have won this game is shooting 60% from three. I'm impressed with Portis, tremendous all around player.

7-9 and lots have been 15-22 feet. They are shooting 57% and we have had hands in their face for most.

Sibert has taken 10 shots, nobody else has taken more than 2. Pierre needs to step up in the 2H -- he was a ghost in the 1H.
We need to press them from the beginning of the 2H. Arkansas fell apart versus Clemson due to the press.
We are at less than 5% chance to win the game so let's go for broke the first 5 minutes.

I get throwing a zone look here and there to throw the other team off, but we play a horrible zone defense. I'd rather see that zone look used no more than one or two possessions a game. Stick to man to man.

We need to have our guards drive to the hoop and dish, nobody driving to the bucket. Scoochie did this last year even versus OSU, Syracuse, and the like. He is not doing it this year. Bass is. It is odd.

As much as I wanted to win this... What did you expect in this game... Coming off 2 straight losses and a team that hasn't played in like a week... Oh yeah they basically never lose here.
Still 20 min left, I'm still hoping definitely!
This week off before Boston U is coming at the perfect time.
Also, Detwon can't get here fast enough.

I agree, I think we're getting jobbed on a lot of calls underneath. Ticky-tack under their basketball on us and Pollard gets hammered and it's a turnover.

Two things need to happen to have any chance of winning.
1. Break the press
2. Crisp ball movement.
If we do these two things, we will get a good shot every possession.
Our half court defense is better than our transition defense, so a better offense will also translate to better defense.

How long has it been since UD had a guy who could shoot a 12'-15' jump shot. Or a guy who could drive and pull up for a jump shot instead of bowling over the defenders (KP, DP)?

I had this one chalked up as a loss when the schedule came out, but that was a grim half. Time to see if the team can respond and make it respectable in the second half.

JR has a good pull up jumper but he has not yet played to his potential due to injury. Detwan can also shoot the mid range J once he is cleared to play.

Playing at Bud Walton is tough for any team. Hoped for a upset of course but I am willing to redefine success today and would be pleased if we played strong this half and improve our shooting % and avoid TOs while closing the gap.

Scooch has to be hurt. No way we're better off with Bass in there. He's too out of control.

Portis is amazing. Should have gotten a T after dunk, but he is a man playing among boys in this game.

We need to let anyone but Portis and Duham beat us -- they are a combined 12-17 -- rest of team 8 for 18 which is not bad, but will take my chance.

Bass has outplayed Scooch today. Might as well make this game a teaching moment for the team. Scooch has to be better than he has played so far for this team to do anything this year.

There is no such foul as over the back. Pollard just got the ball without pushing him. 00 was undercutting him via the box-out.
We are getting dominated, no question, but not getting any call.

I like when Knight's brutally honest, but I'd argue the NCAA itself shouldn't be left out of the "Most Selfish Sports Organization in the World" race.

It would be short of wonderful if JR would grow a pair and being more aggressive and quit putting the ball on the floor underneath

Terrible shot selection by Scooch -- the 17-18 foot jumper is the worst shot in basketball.

The other bright spot is catching a sharp team in a game we might have lost anyway.

K. Davis playing great, but I would like him to get his swagger back on floor -- baseline drive there and goes for reverse -- last year in Maui he would have tried to dunk it.

Showing some heart to cut it to 13. Pierre and K. Davis playing well.
Arkansas cooling down, now shooting ONLY 51% overall and 41% from 3. DO NOT LET PORTIS OR DURHAM BEAT YOU THE LAST 10 MINUTES -- ANYBODY ELSE.

If Jalen takes another 3 ball he needs to be parked in the locker room.

Pierre horrifc double team -- gets split as went out toward 3 line -- simply inexcusable.
We make it a game and then next 2 possessions are Robinson 3 and Robinson 2.

5-13 FG and 2-6 -- perhaps Archie thinks he is forcing it? Really don't know as all 6 of his 3 pointers (except the forced half court shot) have been good looks.
