We should own the boards. This will come down to our ability close out on shooters and limit TO's as they thrive on steals and fastbreaks off them. They also shoot well from 3 and know how to get fouled and make Ft's. Need to limit touch fouls.

One thing fans need to be prepared for is the Monmouth bench. They have a bunch of bad actors playing it up for the cameras:

Monouth is a very skilled team
These guys are good. They shoot very well. Average 9 steals a game while turning it over less than 10 a game. Star guard shoots 93% from ft line. Averages 23/game. Team averages 81 points/game against a very good early season schedule, but so does their opponents. A bit vulnerable on the boards, but will still get their share. They go 10 deep with reserves. No major foul trouble players.
At first glance this looks like a shoot out at a frantic pace.
Beware-- they are 3-1 and have NOT played a home game yet.
Like all holiday games, regardless of what the spread is, any win would be an achievement.

Opening at "pick" merely meets a deadline. When the betting windows open for business, the line is where it should be and remain give or take a point or two. Otherwise, bettors would wind along from Caesars to McCarran AP ready to bet the opening line.

Game notes from Montmouth:
http://www.monmouthhawks.com/ViewArt...B_OEM_ID=14300
Interesting side note:
Monmouth junior guard Josh James (Greenburgh, NY/Archbishop Stepinac) and Dayton junior guard Scoochie Smith (Bronx, NY/Putnam Sciences Academy) were AAU teammates with the New York Gauchos on both 15U and 16U teams. Also on that team was Manhattan guard Tyler Wilson.

I have Direct TV -- and just looked up the line item for tonight's game. Here's what it says:
"Charles Cooke and Dayton take on Monmouth in this semifinal matchup."
Great plug for Cooke and kinda cool.

FWIW, the Ohio St. game on ESPN2 is running WAY late... looks like ESPNU is out as an option as they have a football game on, but ESPNews has got nothing better going on, and should broadcast the first 15-20 minutes of Dayton/Monmouth, or however long it takes before ESPN2 can take over.
In other words, anyone looking to run a DVR or time-shift are kinda screwed, but at least this shouldn't be a deal where we all have to switch over to second-screen/internet-stream technology.

Hotels can be a challenge when trying to follow the Flyers. WHIO is always an option. Or, ask at the hotel where the local sports bars are.

ESPN3 is actually fine, if you have free wi-fi or a good data plan. ESPN3 is just the internet-streaming/second-screen thing I was talking about.... I'm a greedy, entitled SOB, so I just want to see things on TV without having to hook up an extra HDMI thingie. But yeah, ESPN3 should be good, too.

And, if they keep the same announcing team as they did for the earlier game, we will have Dickie V announcing, I am unsure if he has ever worked a UD game.

Try and act like you've been there before Monmouth.

Why did Sam Miller play so little when Steve was on the bench?
We need to be more disciplined in the second half. I would like to see some set plays for Pollard and Big Mac

Need to pull away in the second half.
Darrell Davis needs to wake up, he hasn't been a factor in Orlando yet.
Maybe they won't call 25 total fouls in the second half, but I'm not holding my breath.

Monmouth has some very big guys rotating at the 5, that average-out to be Steve's size. Neither Sammy nor X is big enough to do much inside against them. Pick-n-rolls might be a decent option to get some points in the paint, but I think straight post-ups will only work for Steve.

Brutal officiating
If this was last season, we'd have 2 players left for the second half. Entirely too many whistles on both teams. Steve got a new one in that half. The receiving a separation elbow to the chest foul. Never seen anything like this. Horrible flow to the game.

gotta stop penetration. If we are going to shoot 3's they need to come from anyone not named Kyle Davis. He's not shown improvement a bit over last year. Now 2 of 10 on the year.

Have you watched Sam play? He is on a seriously steep learning curve. Not picking on the Freshman because Darrell Davis does not instill confidence right now either. He looks lost out there for a guy who has logged a lot of minutes in his career.

There we go...at our best when we push the ball up the court and attack the basket. Great defense so far in the second half to create those transition buckets...

Letting them hang around with poor perimeter d on 3s. We look stagnant on O. Need to insert Pollard and finish this.

Focus on the Hawks bench is really encapsulating the downfall of ESPN sports coverage. More about the spectacle than the contest.

need too stop their 3's and not foul. It's their only way to claw back into this game. Put in Pollard and Steve until they foul out.

Yesterday we gave up a 14 pt lead, but came back. Today our 16 point lead is down to 8. Got to stop them and have a little run to end this.

Another big lead squandered. Sooner or later this is going to backfire. Playing green men too long.

Our ball after the TO, but I'd like to see if there should've been a foul on Tillman on that floor dive.

My wife poured me a glass of wine at halftime and told me to take a sip everytime a foul was called. Doubtful I make it to the end of the game at this point.
Come on NCAA, your screwing up a great sport. No one goes to the game to watch 3 zebras call fouls all day.
