Chris Wright's game today didnt give anyone reason for optimism? Tough crowd. His ball skills look really good when he slows himself down a bit.
Even UD teams taht have been good don't blow teams out. That's Dayton basketball. It is Gregory's system. No reason to worry too much. When Wright was on the bench we were getting beat, but IMO we were never going to lose this game.

Recruiting...
Every year I hear, without fail, that the caliber of recruits is sooooo much better....that this freshman class is terrific,....yada, yada, yada. I am still waiting for a freshman that steps in and makes a real, sustained impact from November through March.
"Basketball is a guards game....and this year we're loaded with great guards"....and so it goes, gallons of red and blue kool aid, year after year.
Judging from March of `10, last year's team really was capable of playing very, very well. Why they didn't during A10 play, I don't know. But, I do know that regardless of what's going on right now, our fate once again will be determined by our A10 play.
Go 11-5 in the A10 and win two in AC and things will be fine. Unless we win the rest of our OOC games it will take at least that level of A10 play to make the Dance.

The whole country had us winning by 11. What is all the whining about?
Wright had a monster game. CJ had a great second half. Staten 8 pts, 9 assists, 2 to's.

As of now, for today's games, Juwan is tied for #6 in the Nation with 9 Assists in this game! He is a machine when it comes to dishing the ball. Well done... once again for him.
http://espn.go.com/mens-college-bask..._/stat/assists
CW is tied for #4 with 30 points.
Go Flyers!

I agree there were some positives in this game, especially CW and Staten's continued impressive play.
The bad taste in my mouth comes from the fact that they had an 11 point lead against an inferior opponent and allowed them to close it to one possession with about 2 minutes left in the game. To be where we want this team to be, we need to really drive in the stake when we get up 11 mid-way through the second half.

OK, SD, but....
...guys like this we should handle very easily at home....the game should never be in doubt. The PFL's Campbell Camels beat WCU by 23 in CU's gym.
The home court advantage in BB is unlike just about any other sport...and our Arena is unlike most other home courts.
Nonetheless, this is the Flyer team that must have played very well at ODU....a good team, for sure. Some clubs have a way of playing down to the level of their opponent. Maybe that's the answer. We'll soon know, Three of our remaining OOC games are at the Arena and one at a BCS school.
Win all four and we're in very good shape at 12-3......three of four would put us at 11-4,....not awful. Anything less than that will be very, very disappointing,....in my opinion.

I think that when CJ picked up his defense so did the rest of the team. IT wasn't pretty but in the second half we showed signs of possibly becoming a good team

BB is a funny game...
....what do you suppose that #5 Syracuse fan's are saying about the Orange's five point win over Iona at home...or Stanford's 33 point slaughter by Butler on the road?
Our Flyers just have to win at least three of their next four going into the A10. Improved 3-pt shooting wouldn't hurt.

You are correct that home court advantage in basketball is big, but we did not have much of a home court advantage in this game. There may be 12,000 people there but the place is dead. People get excited about a dunk and the silly giveaways at the timeouts. There are many reasons that people will give for the lack of energy in the Arena, but simply put there is no energy. Its like we are all just sitting there waiting to see what will go wrong next.

A quick scan gave me 2 posts out of 109 that gave a score and time. ONe of them being "tied at half".
I am on a mission to get scores posted more frequently in the game threads!

Everyone posting in these threads is either watching or listening to game. Really not much of need to post the score since everyone already knows it.

Scores are helpful for people trying to follow the game on phones. ESPN's mobile site is often delayed quite a bit.

Here's the part you are missing UAC. We are not a very good team---yet. We took another step forward with CW taking control with Juwan's help, and some other guys stepping up (CJ 2nd half). If we keep the ball in Staten's hands, and keep working to get the ball to the Chris's in their wheelhouse, we may yet develop that winning personality that has heretofore escaped us.
So making statements like "so and so beat them by 60 points" or "if we win out at home this season"--whatever, are not even in the mix right now.
Think more in terms of playing the first 2 minutes without your best shooter setting the tone of the game by missing a wide open layup. Or cutting down on the number of our passes made to wide open opponents. Or watching the opponent score a layup in 3.6 seconds after our made field goal.
Now that takes us to the first half officials timeout.
Until we fix those kinds of things (which I would make the team watch in slow motion about 10 times until they are sick of looking at it), it is absolutely foolhardy to think in terms of winning streaks and point spreads.
woulda, coulda, shoulda.....
We won a game by the 11 points the experts figured. Let's hope we are favored in the next one, and that we beat the spread by little bit while cutting out the brainless mistakes.
We took some baby steps forward last night in a number of areas.

I would summarize things this way:
Last year's team was very veteran. We didn't see a lot of improvement from the beginning of the year through the end because we had a number of players who had limited dimensions of effectiveness and they had already reached much of their potential in the dimensions of their games where they were strong.
This year, we are currently not as good as last year's team, but I feel that we are loaded with multi-dimensional players who have not come close to realizing their full potential in many phases of their games. Lots of new players are getting minutes and continuing to develop. I'm not sure where our development will top-off, but I believe that we might be a better team than last year by the end of the season if improvements like I saw over the last 2 games continue in a generally linear path.
BG has been saying this from the beginning of the year. I believe it after watching the last few games.
At this point, I am guessing that the biggest limiting factor for our development as a team this year will be the quality of our center position play.

I started out thinking the same. But I now put the maturity of our bench right up there with the bigs issue. Better save all the Fab Four talk until the development of the kids is further along . And the best stat line for me last night was Parker's 0-1, 3 assists, 1 steal, in 12 minutes. The sooner he stops casting long threes and does his best imitation of Juwan, the better off we will be.
We aren't even close to having the bench support we need to play hard defense the whole game, and also have some semblance of scoring off the bench. As far as dependable subs at this moment we have the two Josh's in for Searcy and Staten---and that's it. Everyone else is struggling and/or learning.
