Amazing
The venom on here after a loss amongst fellow Flyer fans is mindboggling. I'm as disappointed as anyone (can't sleep), but let's keep in mind that UD losing (or any of our favorite teams) is not the end of the world and should not lead to us to engage in an internet tough man contest. I'm ****ED, but I think it's stupid to waste time ripping on each other! Not saying we need to share Pom poms or get in a big circle and sing a love song, but let's try to remember we all share the same desire, which is to see UD dominate the opponent. New streak starts tomorrow.

A year ago Archie was getting out-smarted by a rookie coach at Rhode Island...this year he's out-smarted by Baylor's veteran coach...by a point.
I call that Progress.
Why everyone is up in arms about it baffles me. We're much better NOW than we were a week ago and unlike last season, it appears the team is buying into Archie's system which as many of you know I had 0 confidence in until Maui.
Sometimes you have to ignore the result and look at the intangibles. We're competing with the big boys, who now are taking us seriously.
Newsflash: We weren't going to go undefeated....what more do you want?

This. And I'd rather beat Gonzaga and lose our next 2 than lose to them and win our next 2. We will leave the island with a quality win and no bad losses. We missed an opportunity, but we are playing with house money. This trip is already a success and is setting us up for a position where if we perform well in our home games the rest of OOC, our tournament resume is going to be fine. It's going to come down to our conference play, as always. And seeing the progress this team has made since the first two games, I see no reason not to believe that Archie can't get us there. I never would have expected us to do this well a week ago.

I agree with your overall point: Archie and the team have made great progress. But I think Archie outcoached the Valpo dude. The two point blanks just did not go. Let's face it their bigs were much better than ours, outside of Oliver, and he missed important time due to fouls. By the way that was a great play by Archie for the last shot. You know that Drew told them to expect Siebert. Meanwhile Archie uses him as a decoy and lets Vee go one on one with Oliver crashing behind him. I also love the way he used Kav to draw the big up high and set great picks. Archie knew Kavs would do a better job than Scott and he did.

After the IPFW game, I think the entire board would have agreed that a quality win over no. 11 Gonzaga and then gaining good national exposure on ESPN even though losing by 1 to no. 18 Baylor would represent great progress.
Yes, I felt sick and it hurt to lose at the end after a strong showing (yes the last 4 plus minutes of the first half bothered me and I wondered if that would come back to haunt us), but I am proud of this team and look forward to the rest of the season.

Good game and an expected (honestly) loss. My frustration comes from giving up the game plan that was working (attack your opponent), and leaving tried and true players on the bench at all the wrong times (Price, Sibert, Oliver). While we "should" have lost that game before the tip-off, we had them on the ropes and let them come back.
I like the looks of this freshman class, but their time will come. Run with your big dogs in crunch time!

I'm still fully on the bandwagon; was just frustrated by the loss. I wouldn't be nearly as frustrated if it had been a see-saw game where the lead changed 20 times. I just hate playing "protect the lead" or in the NFL it would be the "prevent defense". My feeling was stay aggressive while taking good shots and I thought down the stretch we played like we just wanted to keep the lead. What really annoys is the last "go ahead" bucket by Baylor was really the result of poor boxing out and an even poorer initial shot where if i'm not mistaken, KP played great one on one defense to force a near air ball.
Incidentally, am I the only one who thinks the new "hand check" rule has caused a serious reduction in not only officiating consistency but also just a bad for college basketball rule? I can't hardly stand to watch the calls being made. One time I saw DMO CLEARLY in position to take a charge and he gets called for blocking. Then another time a charging foul where the Baylor player was clearly moving backwards and yet they got the changing call.
I hate the new rule change; they are ruining college basketball....

I like the new rules.... refs and players are still adjusting. The game now is not the mugging it had become......
