You beat me to it.

He beat a Hall of Fame coach (Montgomery) coaching a BCS team (that will likely be a competitor for a NCAA bid) and the #11 team in the country. This team was ready to play and dominated in every aspect. Outstanding tournament!

Well I think we got our answer as to whether this team would fold or bounce back. Now that's how you close out a game. They never stopped attacking until under two minutes to go when the game was in the bag.

J-Rob hitting treys, Kyle Davis dunking, oh my! Nice rotation strategy by Archie to keep legs fresh as Cal just looked beat down the stretch. J-Rob looked strong underneath.

Defense was a little better, too, as we contested shots even with a double digit lead. Devon Scott with 8 boards, DMO with 7, J-Rob pulled down 5!

I agree. Archie made adjustments like putting Davis on Combs when he was fire. He put in Robinson early and stuck with him. Etc etc. All the credit goes to Archie -- he out coached Montgomery tonight.

I really liked how they attacked on the offensive side of the ball until there was only 2 minutes left in the game. Archie made great adjustments all night and the players did a good job of fighting back when Cal would make a run. You can only wonder what if now if we had done that against Baylor.

This should so be us vs. The Cuse right now in the championship. But I'm not gonna go there...not gonna dwell, not gonna dwell. It was a fun and successful tournament. Onward, Flyer soldiers!

Quote from the Cal Board

I will let it speak for itself.

It was fun watching us play Syracuse yesterday for 30 minutes or so because even without Solomon we had the right combination of players unlike in the last NCAA tournament that could attack their zone. In fact, I think if Solomon had played and they had not shot the lights out for the first time this season (including the free throw line which seems to be working for them in Hawaii), we might have won. That brings me to Dayton. They are the type of team that Montgomery is never able to recruit enough smart truly athletic players to beat. The only satisfaction that I got out of today's game was watching the Dayton players share the ball, play great defense, and kill the offensive glass. We could play Dayton (who I believe will be a solid tournament team) 100 times and I doubt that we could ever get closer to them than 15 points. We simply do not match up to their wonderful style of play and quickness. As a lifelong Cal fan it is games like Dayton's that really frustrate me because we never can recruit enough good athletic players to compete against such a team. I don't if we can ever get as good a coach as Montgomery going forward but hopefully we can someone in the future that can recruit a lot of smart athletic players. Dayton made Bird look anything like a McDonald's All American today and hopefully he learned that he can't be lackadaisical in handling the ball and be quicker with the moves to get his shot off. I will be there at almost all the home games this year and will enjoy this team for what it is: a contender in the Pac 12 that will probably win one tournament game and then be eliminated by a smarter more athletic team. Go Bears
Edit: As I continue to read their forum http://www.bearinsider.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=8 they continue to say very nice things about UD. Not like most fans from the high majors.

I have 4 games saved on my DVR. That's 3 more than last year and it's only November. Congrats on a great Tourney, 3 days on ESPN, and 2 days in prime time on the flagship ESPN, something we seldom get. Go UD!

I mentioned this in a couple different posts this week, and I see there's a thread on it but I'll say it again.....This is Archie's team, first time since he's been here.

He looks comfortable, confident and in charge....and just as important these guys look like a team....

A simple matter of addition by addition (great additions), and a little subtraction is bringing out the best in everyone - especially Archie and DO.

From Larry Hangsen article on Maui. (copied it because it's not behind the paywall)

Miller a surfing stud
"Jimmy ****s picked Archie Miller as the best potential surfer among the coaches in the field, because of his toughness and athletic ability. When reminded that Gonzaga Coach Mark Few spends two weeks every summer in Maui surfing with his family, ****s responded, “ But Archie would knock him off his board if that is what it takes to win.”

I really liked the shot of Archie - late in the game, very animated - explaining a point to the players on the bench while the players on the floor went about their business.
He is a players coach.
