And......
Don't look now but there have only been 3 posts in the OTG forum all day, and the last one was at 9:29 a.m.
And to think - I was thoroughly convinced that absolutely nothing could ever shut down the UDPride pol-pundit-wannabee BS extruder....
(this unrepentant extruder operator included )...
Who knows, we beat Baylor and Chris might not have to referee the OTG forum for the rest of the year!!!

This is a huge boost for recruiting. Archie and company have done a great job so far. But it is a whole lot easier showing a recruit the future of the program on tv than telling them how bright it is. Recruits will know that there will be competition but they will also know that they should expect to play for a good team

Didn't want to start another thread so here are some post game comments from coach Montgomery, daytonflyers.com
Dayton does a great job in their man defense. They were very well prepared. so you know, tough midwestern kids. Had a chip on their shoulder, came out, knocked us back, too us a while to respond. 'They were' way more physical on the glass So that was a very good dayton team, hat's off. they beat us and deserved to win.

Like this one best so far from NBC Sports, although the second article was good as well:
2) Did anyone make more of a statement this week than Dayton? The Flyers wrapped up a terrific Maui Invitational with an 82-64 win over Cal in the third place game. Devon Oliver finished with 21 points in the win, as the Flyers put their name into the conversation for the best team in the A10.

We lucked out not having to face Cal's Solomon. The guy is a man child on the interior and averaged a double-double last year. Once the Bears get him back, they will be very very tough. He and Cravish are a tough inside duo and Cobbs is one of the best guards in the PAC12. They arent super deep, but they have a coach that knows how to win and get better by season end. Everyone forgets about Cal in the PAC12 and yet at season end, they are in the Top-4 standings.

Yeh, they kept showing his patched eye. Made a few references to them being short-handed. Just like the "weak field" in 2003 when we won it. Then there was the win over UConn in 2000 at Maui where they were missing Caron Butler and Souleymane. Always some excuse. But Coach Calhoun said it wouldn't have made any difference:
"The Huskies were without 6-foot-10 center Souleymane Wane and 6-7 freshman Caron Butler, who are serving NCAA suspensions. But, Calhoun said, they wouldn't have made much of a difference considering the way the Flyers played, especially in the paint."
And I don't believe Solomon would have made 20 points difference last night. Just another footnote and food for commentator chatter.
There are no asterisks next to our losses when we had injuries to Chris Wright, Charles Little, Josh Benson, Lowry.

I don't see how injuries provide any excuse. An injury-prone athlete is simply not as good of an athlete. Endurance and resilience are part of the equation. (And I'm injury prone.)

I'm sorry but I have to disagree, I don't care how athletic or conditioned a player is, if someone undercuts them or hits them in the head with a wild elbow it doesn't matter. Injuries are random and it happens and there really isn't anything a player can do. Injures pretty much just suck and are not fair. That is how the game goes.
That being said I think Dayton would have won regardless there aren't that many teams that can beat us when we play the way we did against Cal.

The Flyers abused Cal. If they had Solomon, it would have been closer, but I still think US would win that game by 8-10 points if Solomon played.

I hope Solomon comes back next game and Cal wins out (until the NCAA tourney, of course). I want this convincing win to continue to give us lots of "points" for our NCAA chances.

California is a good team without Solomon and an even better team with him. Cal was down 2pts to Syracuse with 12min to go. They were right in that game. Solomon is one of the best players in the PAC12. To not have to go up against him only helped our chances. How much, no one can say, but without Chris Wright, our opponents were helped out too. We probably still beat Cal with Solomon. We probably lose some of those games even with Chris Wright.
But you make the most of your opportunities when circumstances fall in your favor.
