Before we get too carried away . . .
The 2000-01 Flyers went 2-1 against three ranked teams in Maui.
They caught the nation's eye, but ended up going 9-7 in conference play and 2-1 in the NIT.
Just sayin' . . .

Only one example of success in the non-conference followed by mediocrity in the A10? Surely you can do better than that!

You make an excellent point. We learned a lot about the Flyers capabilities in the last 3 games.
We will learn a lot more in the next 3 games.
Delaware State 1-3
Illinois State 1-3
Central Michigan 4-3
If we dominate these teams with double digit wins, I will be more confident going forward. However, if we bring down our level of play and play to their level I will lose confidence in our ability be an NCAA team. We have all to often allowed teams to hang around and beat us because we didn't play with intensity the whole game

One of the things we used to talk about when I played football at Dayton was regarding whether your glass was half full or half empty.
I'm more of a half full guy. I've never seen a Dayton team share a ball like these guys do. I also don't remember a UD team being this high in Pomeroy ratings. I've seen a Dayton team this deep (2010 NIT Champions), but not with this much offensive talent.
Yep, I'm a half full guy.

All true, but ...
The two main reasons for our struggles in the past are:
1) lack of coaching adjustments. We have already seen that Archie is doing a very good job coaching this team and is not afraid of making in-game adjustments when things are not going well.
2) injuries. I think the depth of the current team and the rapid development of the three freshmen should make us less susceptible to injuries. Equally important is the fact that we do not rely so heavily on any one player whose loss would be devastating as it were in years past.
All in all you make a valid point, but with a glass half full and a new pair of red and blue shades I predict a different outcome.

We're off to a great start, but how you start doesn't mean that much. It's how you finish that counts. Keep the ball rolling and win the A-10 games we should win and avoid the Rhode Island-type upsets and we'll be fine.
There's a long way to go, and the thirty-plus game season isn't a sprint, it's a marathon.
Just sayin'

The way we played in Hawaii reminded me of watching the 2012 NCAA finals between UK & KU--their level of play was taken to a much higher level than what we'd seen just two or three games before against the Francis twins.
Keeping that level of intensity will be difficult, especially against the Delaware States & Winthrops of the world. We've proven we can play with the best, but can we play with the mediocre-est and still have success?

Losing to Rhode Island on a buzzer beater is as sure as death and taxes.

Your klling my buzz man. UD looks great, OSU undefeated and Bengals in first place.l The hat trick for a guy like me. The 1990 team was their team; this s the now team. When I watched the flyers play in Maui, I said more WoWs, than the past five years. Were just passengers, I'll enjoy the ride.

Flyer Fans Are Enjoying This
What a great time to be a Flyer fan as long as you do not let negative thoughts overtake you. Happy holidays to all Flyer fans. Away with negative thoughts and enjoy the season.
Good golfers never even see the water or sand traps as they look where their golf ball ought to go with proper technique. We can all learn from that and vision UD's success before it happens.

Amazing just how many can't enjoy the moment without bringing up the past failures.
Just for the record this is a different coaching staff with different players and you expect the script to remain the same.
This is Archie's first year with his team healthy and with his recruits; only a couple remain whom by all observations are all on the same page; they bought into the program and their roles.
It was reported by team members that Dillard and Benson did not buy into the program and were not on the same page; and it showed at times. Great talents but not with the same view and acceptance of roles.
Archie has been preaching support for one another whether your on the court or on the bench...and it shows. All for one (team) and one (team) for all concept.
These guys are winning big and having fun....let the wins and fun continue.

In all seriousness, They looked terrible in the first two games, and they looked like a legit sweet 16 team in Maui. My birth certificate says I was born in New York, but swear I was really born in Missouri. They will have to show me more results before I get my hopes up too high. For now I would like to see continued improvement throughout the season.

Actually you have and in the fast track. Gotta remember what Archie said about the first couple games: "...nine guys on this years team haven't played together and having to learn D1 ball and how to play with their new teammates..."(paraphrased) Even our transfers while they did practice together with some teammates its quite different to do so in game situations.
Would be really surprised and terribly disappointed to not see the same team play from here on out. Don't mean we will win all our games as there are too many freshmen who will make freshmen mistakes and possibly at crucial times. But all in all this team came together before a national audiance and bodes well for the rest of the year.

I will be at URI in late January.....in the president's box,....my friend will be feted at halftime as the "distinguished alum of the game".
In recent years,....too many to recall,...that URI evening has been miserable for me. This year has got to be different. It just has to be!

6-2 record aside, URI is a very average shooting team, except from 3pt where they are miserable. They have not beaten anyone of note. They lost by 31 at SMU which is a team in transition right now and will probably be a second tier team in the American AC. Our Maui display would have us winning by 20 at Rhody.
But then there is this other Dayton at URI, and some kind of fog shrouded hex happens. One would think we were playing at Cintas. Need to say a prayer and keep your bets to a minimum.

That first Maui team promptly came home and lost to Marshall at UD Arena. Let us hope that doesn't repeat itself.
Like I mentioned in another thread, the hot stove of this program has taught us not to get our hopes up too much, as we have all been burned very badly time and time again while getting caught-up in early season UD Flyer Fever.
Good news though, at least I cannot look down at the schedule and see the automatic loss coming down in "little Ann-Arbor" at the cement bunker.

Old Spice Classic
If my memory is correct, didn't we win the Old Spice Classic just 2 years ago and then come home and lose to Buffalo by about 30 points the very next game? I am certainly not saying something like that may happen again but you never can take anything for granted.

Yep, and that Buffalo game was only three days after the Flyers won the tournament, so that did not give them much time to celebrate, travel back to Dayton, rest, prepare for Buffalo, practice, etc. Flyers looked totally gassed and unprepared vs. Buffalo.
It looks like the schedulers at UD may have learned their lesson by giving the team a full week to recover before the next game this time...
