So JR, about that 3 pointer. . .

Whaddaya think? If I'm the coach I say: shoot it all you want. But if you miss, you'll sit on the bench next to me for the next 5 minutes of game time.

No problem with an uncontested 15 footer, for him or Scott. But a 3? There better be <2 seconds on the shot clock.

I think that's "old school" thinking. He was wide open, had good form and hit the shot. For all I know, he might hit those in practice all the time.If a guy has a wide open three and doesn't take it, that hurts the team. If the other teams center has to guard the three, it leaves the lane open for drives. The way he played last night( in the zone, on fire) please don't take him out.

That's what I like about Archie's offense as he let's them play and make decisions on their own instead of micromanaging everything like most college coaches. It's all about time and situation which lends to basketball IQ. Now if your up by 2 and it's 8 minutes left in the game, no way should take that shot rather find a guard and reset the offense. Seems like this groups basketball IQ is a little higher than it has been in years and that is why Archie lets the O free flow a bit more..

he made quite a few threes in high school. That said I doubt we see him shooting many going forward. Does give the opponents something else to think about going forward.

Gregory liked to say that he wanted his team to run. But he would yank a player if he made an obviously bad pass or shot on the break. That negative reinforcement is not what Miller is all about. Will it bite him occasionally, yup. But he is all about taking the handcuffs off of good players. Price, Smith, Scott all threw up some skanky shots and didn't get the hook. Came right back and made good plays. I was so happy for Jalen and Kyle to come off the bench, get the coach's trust, and lay down the goods. Sweet.

If I knew how he shot it in practice under scrimmage conditions, not with a rack of balls from one spot, I'd form a more conclusive position. But if he can hit around 30%, take the wide open ones. Make the defense extend.

Jay Bilas mentioned shooting form when talking about the Zags outstanding SG Kevin Pangos. Bilas said his form is exactly the same, whether shooting a 15 footer or a three pointer. Jalen did likewise, with similar results.

JR

has a good offensive game with lots of potential. That shot showed growth in his game which many of UD players do. It takes me back to Archie's statement when he took the UD job. He wanted to emphasize player development. Enjoy Flyer fans as development takes place before our very eyes...and the eyes of a nation. Cal did not believe JR could make that shot so JR made them pay. Upward and onward UD!

When we're up 15 points and cruising to victory I like him shooting it. It puts it on the scouting report. Beyond that it makes me very uncomfortable. Seems like can get better shots.

But I agree, I love that AM didn't seem to flinch. We all know where he would have been sitting if he had taken that shot under BG.

What I hated about Gregory's schemes and behavior was the MIcro managing and over excitement. Loved Gregory himself, and Archie has taken the time and these sophs thru seniors have truly "ripened" and matured.

Amazing when you let growth and development occur and maturate

That's not the shot you want him taking often, but if he can make them in practice and the other team leaves him that wide open, then I say go for it.

Remember - Robinson came in wanting to play the 3. Because of his size and our lack of depth, Archie said it would be tough keeping him out of the post.
