they shot way too many 3s in that game. They struggle to shoot the ball from the perimeter
One thing I noticed yesterday watching that game is that Fatts Russell seems like he takes some really questionable shots
it seemed like he had the greenlight on offense

I think he does have the green light. In the local papers they keeping touting him as a prolific scorer in the making. The two times I have seen them live and the few times I have caught them on TV they have really struggled to get Dowtin in the flow offensively, which seems to be because Fatts has the ball in his hands a lot and is always looking for his own shot.

Jhery had surgery today. On Instagram he said it went well.
There was no reason to hurry the surgery . He wasn't coming back this year either way. This timing allowed him to finish his classes and finals and be able to go home for a couple of days at Christmas. Now he can focus on healing for the next few weeks .

A healthy Jhery next season is one of several important keys to our success. He showed a great upside in what little action he saw.

To me... Without a doubt, the top 4 teams in the A-10 at this moment in some order are UD, VCU, SLU & Davidson

I will buy this. Obviously, you might seen an outlier get hot in A10 play crash that 4-team party, but I'd be surprised if at least 3 of those 4 don't finish in the Top 4. For our sake, let's hope SLU and VCU stay strong, as we have both of them home and away. Wouldn't hurt for UMass, Rhody and Duquesne to stay afloat too.

I've been saying the more things change the more they stay the same. No matter what the pre season polls said I always felt like VCU and UD would be two of the teams battling it out at the end and I wouldn't be surprised if URI is there at the end too.

Butler's Slump Will Hurt the Flyers
Their blowout loss at Florida 77-43 and tonight's loss at home to Georgetown 74-68 dilutes Dayton's best win of the season.

Perhaps i’m Being unfair having seen all the UD games and just a few minutes of the other teams. But with all the opportunities this Dayton team has, it’s hard to see a top 3 or 4 finish. Perhaps the A-10 is just a big bag of fecal matter, I don’t know. Would be thrilled at a top 3 finished, and not surprised by a 10-8 result.
Hopeful, but not sold.

Doesn't matter if Dayton's only chance to get in is a conference tourney championship, right?

The PAC 12
may be a one bid conference this year allowing for the A-10 to get an at large entry perhaps to the First Four.

Only scoring 14 points over the final 14 minutes is not a recipe for success.
If Xavier has any injuries to key players, then this could be their poorest finish in a long while...might have to go back to Sean Miller's 1st year there...we will see.

Either BG has finally figured it out, UConn is totally with the Ti-D-Bowl guy this year, or some of both. Hopefully, it’s mostly the first of these. Liked BG as a rep of the university, but he was Mike Brown stubborn when it came to adapting his methods and an open book when it came to his strategies.

I watched the second half of this game and his offense was very good and in fact they looked to feature their RS frosh Yetna (from same school as Scoochie) in the post because UConn couldn't defend him. They did have some serious issues trying to break the press late in the game. No hockey line substitutions that I saw.

Detroit's leading scorer dropped 48 on Wright St hitting (10) 3's. I knew he launched a lot against UD but at least UD's perimeter defense didn't give up that much. That's insane.

St. Joe couldnt hit the broad side of a barn, something they are incapable of doing any time we play them on Hawk Hill. They play like Kansas at home every time we to have to go there, throwing down dunks, running and gunning, and forcing us into bad shots and awful foul trouble. In other words, basically what GW, UMass, and LaSalle also do to us on their home floors -- overwhelm.

I thought the very same thing while watching last night. I think part of it is...we're Dayton, not GMU, or GW, or Lasalle, or Fordham. When those teams play on Hawk Hill SJU squeezes 1500 fans into their 5000 seat gym. With us it's 5001, and many wearing Flyer red and blue, which amps up the atmosphere. Having said that, it was nice to see the Martelli get every call in the book at the start of the second half (SJU was in the bonus with 15...FIFTEEN minutes left in the game) and still watch his team get thrashed, all the while Phil flapping his arms in disgust on the sideline as if auditioning for the Hawk standing in the corner.

Re: WSU's loss to Detroit-- I caught the last 2 mins on my van radio on my way home from trivia last night. They were way down and I remembered reading the pregame article in the DDN. I was thinking--But they're playing Detroit! How can they be losing to Detroit??
We beat them by almost 40 pts! Then the announcer said Detroit was now 3-0 in Horizon League play. Yikes! And people complain about the A10 being weak.

Did anyone catch Inside College Basketball on CBSSN prior to the GMU/SJ game. It was all about the A10 and one of the segments they did was the best newcomer of the year so far. I thought for sure Obi would be a shoe-in for this with at least one of the three analysts. To my surprise not one of them mentioned him. I'm sure the other three players mentioned are all worthy but it just surprised me.
Here's who they picked:
Seth Davis - Tramaine Isabell, St. Louis
Wall Szcz - Luke Frampton, Davidson
Gary Parrish - Nick Honor, Fordham

Isabell is on his 4th team (I assume he's a grad transfer, after transferring from Missouri to Drexel). I know its for newcomer, but IMHO grad transfers shouldn't really be in the conversation.
Obi & Frampton are both redshirt frosh (Frampton blew out his knee last year)
Honor is the typical Fordham Frosh, who puts up big numbers thru the course of a bunch of losses and eventually transfers after a season or two in the Bronx; its a tale as old as time (or at least as old as their seven blocks of granite).

Here's who they picked:
Seth Davis - Tramaine Isabell, St. Louis
Wall Szcz - Luke Frampton, Davidson
Gary Parrish - Nick Honor, Fordham
|
Think the voting is not anti-Obi, but more anti-UD. We have plenty to prove outside of UD Arena, and this is a season where we just might do it.

If anyone is counting on LaSalle being a patsy, you may want to rethink that. They actually looked quite good at UMass, a place where we have struggled mightily. This was their fourth straight win.

LaSalle’s 4th straight win is quite the accomplishment since they are currently 3-10 after today’s game.

I saw Detroit play the other day, and I thought that they looked not bad.
ESPN has them winning the HLT.
Mike Davis seems like a good coach.

And ESPN has George Mason winning the A10T, interesting.
Impressed by the 25 point win at SJU I guess.

I don't think those are ESPN predictions just what ever team has the best
conference record as of yesterday.

We may have 5 losses, but from what I just read on my ESPN app, 4 of those teams are currently in the Top 25, and the combined record of the 5 teams to which we’ve lost is 56-8. That’s a pretty $&#%ed good SOS.

Butler and Tulsa seem similarly bubbly and should be all season. If we'd have won the Tulsa and Miss St. games we wouldn't be asking whether or not we'll be in the NCAAT, we'd be debating seeding.

Was watching bits and pieces of that game at South Park Pizza after our game. Was a close contest until the final 4 minutes or so. Then GW blew the lid off Hawk Hill. After a very rough start to the season, GW seems to be gaining steam.

Does anyone know why Fatts Russell did not play for URI today? They lost in a close one at SLU. I caught the 2nd half but didn't hear any reason why he didn't play.

I don't have the hate for DePaul. They have been so inept as of late, I actually root for them when they play just about anyone else in the BE.

Many more teams would give Duke a home and home than would give Dsyton a home and home.

Same here. And it’s funny, because I used to root for X, when they weren’t playing UD. That was back during the Gillen/Prosser era. Both guys were class acts, and generally recruited players that I could respect. But then Ratface came along, and since then, it’s generally been a stream of gangstas, crybabies, pretty boys, thugs, etc., etc. Maybe someday it’ll turn back around, but I’m not holding my breath.

I didn't see any updates from last night in this thread, and in an effort to deflect from any more posts about Gangsta U and DePaul "gaining steam" (no disrespect to those posts), both Oklahoma and Miss St. lost road games last night.
Oklahoma in a challenging one at Texas Tech and Miss St. in a road game that was very winnable at South Carolina.

Favier (as in, “Xuck Favier”) beats Georgetown after being down by mid-teens in the first half. And the only reason why I bring it up is, I didn’t even recognize Patrick Ewing on the bench for the Hoyas. He looks like he’s in worse shape than me (and I’ve gained 45 pounds since they beat us in the Elite Eight).

Udpride favorite coach Ed Cooley's Providence was up 3 twice in regulation and OT with under 8 seconds.
Neither time chose to foul. Both times, Georgetown hits 3's to tie, and Hoyas win in double OT.

Is it just me or does it seem like St. Joe's has had a string of injuries over the past 4-5 years? I know Charlie Brown was out last year and I think I remember some injuries to key players the few years before last year. They are a train wreck this year.

Auburn beats Georgia, 93-78
MSU loses at home to arch rival Ole Miss, 81-77
tOSU loses at Iowa, 72-62
SLU bests LaSalle in Philly, 71-64
And, in a game involving our last 2 opponents, Richmond drills GW in Foggy Bottom, 76-56

Is it me or does the A-10 NEVER seem to have a clear leading team? I cannot remember when any one team dominated the A-10. Perhaps the VCU Rams a few years back?

The last time an A-10 team finished the regular season in 1st place with a 2 (or more) game lead over the 2nd place team was 2007-08, when the Eggheads had a 14-2 record in-con, and #2 Temple finished 11-5. Since then, it’s been either a 1-game lead, or a tie for 1st.

Yep. Oliva has as much trouble staying healthy as Tyler Eifert.

Thanks T-Bone. I thought that was the case...just no dominant team in the A-10.

X is really down this year. Currently 4th place in the Big East but I dont see many road wins in the league coming. Big East is VERY balanced. I think Butler is currently tied for 9th.

Side note. BG has his USF Bulls at UD to practice for a couple days before they play the Bearcats early in the week. Seems like relations between UD and BG continue to be excellent.
