On 8 shots in 34 mins vs KY. Been a great player for PC but he stunk it up in his last game.

Also last night:
Bucknell 72 @ Fairfield 66 - Interesting because Bucknell scored 25 points in the OT, more than they scored in the first half of the game, and nearly more than the 2nd half (18/29 respectively).
Big Ten claims the first 2 games of the Big Ten / ACC challenge, with Rutgers and Nebraska beating Clemson and Florida St.

My point is the other senior and the juniors are not that great. The frosh class is where the talent supposedly is. It was ranked in the top 25.
I am not defending X, because I hate them. Just weighing in on the facts.

As an aside - grow a pair and start a thread.
Give it a title - like, I don't know, Pierre vs Henton?
It ain't rocket surgery . . .

Hey, if they have a bunch of untalented seniors, juniors and third year sophomores then why blame their failures on the youth? Freshmen and sophomores are going to be rough around the edges most of the time. That is to be expected.
They always say they have great freshmen and then those guys get tossed, run away or forced out after a year or two to make room for the new hype.

I agree totally. It is sort of like judging a team after 5 or 6 games.

Siena has been pretty solid the last 7-10 years. Not sure where they are now, but it's possible they are in for a down year. Will check out their stats and record this week.

I am watching UMass stink it up vs. LSU. Eleven turnovers in the first half led to a ton of easy LSU points and a double digit deficit at the half.
Some times I wonder if Kellogg can coach at all. They look like a CYO team, only a little taller.

2007-2010 they had a nice run under Fran McCaffery. But he split for Iowa and they've been a train wreck since. Two coaches later, still not good, though they have decent fan support.

Rockhurst doesn't even receive any votes in the Dii top 25 rankings. It's incredible how quickly SLU is sinking under Crews. It's steep and fast.

Crews went all-in these past 2 years, with what were Majerus's best classes of recruits while he was at SLU. In the process, he didn't really try to build his bench. And now that Jett, Loe, Evans, et al have graduated, he has a squad that's extremely young and inexperienced. They will likely get better in time, but not to the level of the past 2 years' Billiken squads, simply because Crews isn't anywhere near as good of a coach as his predecessor was.

Pitt has really sunk quickly to 4-3. I believe they have three ex-UD targets playing for them: Luther, Jeter and Cameron Wright, who is injured. Not sure we missed out on much there.

Agree. I hope I'm wrong, but looks like a 4-3 night at best. St Joes, LaSalle, George Mason, and 1 other potential unknown loss.

Luther is doing for Pitt pretty much exactly what I think Archie would have wanted him to do here; he's scoring about 6 ppg, plus a handful of rebounds, and at 6-8 he's stretching the floor hitting 5 out of 8 three pointers.
I'm not sure how hard Archie recruited Jeter, both out of HS and when he was transferring from Vandy, he's putting up decent numbers, but nothing earth shattering. He'd likely be backing up Pierre & Siebert, which is a similar role he seems to find himself in at Pitt currently, also putting up decent numbers for a backup (Lord knows this team could use a little more depth)
Not sure about Cameron Wright, put up "OK" numbers last season but hasn't played this season according to cbssports stat page. Don't know what the story is, injured I'd assume? at 6-5 doesn't appear to shoot very well, don't know about his defense.
Louisville looked good (though their shorts looked terrible) but I wonder how much of that was Ohio State looking terrible, I don't watch enough OSU to know if this is a regular thing or if they are missing Craft, but they dribbled way too much last night, far too much one on one stuff, not enough ball and player movement. They certainly didn't make Louisville work very hard on defense.

Nice!
The opposite happened in Puerto Rico. The refs signaled 1 and 1. The free throw shooter missed the first shot and action started. The benches screamed and the refs stopped play went back and realized it was a shooting 2 shot foul.

Arkansas is down big at Iowa State in the first half. It's on ESPN2. And Ole Miss is in a dog fight with TCU on ESPNU.

So, the Bruiser Flint era at Drexel must be coming to an end.
As they lost to something named "University of the Sciences" 54-52. Yikes.

First loss of the year for 7-1 WVU.
Huggins will be back in the sw Ohio area on Sunday as WVU plays at Northern Kentucky at 6pm, nice newish arena for NKU, The Bank of Kentucky Center, parking in and out was really bad though, hopefully they've fixed the problem by now. I think NKU is still in d1 transition status.

Uconn is a very good, but not great team. Likely 25-50 in kenpom. They unfortunately played well versus us.

Yikes, UConn has lost 3 straight since beating us--their last 2 at the buzzer. Against Yale, up 4 with 13 secs to play...Brimah foul gives Yale 2 freebies, Boatright misses front end of 1-and-1, then Yale makes a 3 with just over 1 second to play.

For those putting Kentucky on an NBA level, a pretty good Texas team without their excellent point guard, Taylor, almost beat them.

Watching Gonzaga at Arizona on ESPN. Two very good teams, but mostly I'm enjoying the announcers dealing with Tarczewski guarding Karnowski for much of the game.

I watched much of the VCU game while listening to UD. Second time I have watched Virginia, and they are probably a top 5 team. No shame in losing to them, but VCU lost by 17, and was not on the same planet. We can beat VCU if we play smart against the press and make them shoot from the outside.

More Than You Ever Wanted To Know About NJIT: Formerly known as Newark College of Engineering (NCE), it is a good engineering \ technical school. I have driven by it many times bordering Rutgers Newark. This year hey lost to St. Johns by 19 but not before giving SJ a serious scare. Lost only by 5 to Marquette in Wisconsin. Were once 0-29 but have done much better since Jim Engle, who comes from a basketball family, became coach. I think NJIT is the only independent D1 basketball program left and has tried to get into a local conference without success.

St Louis played a home and home with Wichita State. I wish WSU would have played us instead of SLU.
Interesting they scheduled a four year home and home while they were up and will play it while they are not.

SLU just lost at Wichita State. Jack72 I believe was asking if that was a buy game. It was not - it is the second game of a 4 year contract with SLU and Wichita State (WSU). Wichita State won at SLU last year and I believe they play home and home in 2015 & 2016 as well.
I'd love to play Wichita State home and home too. St. Louis is a lot closer to Wichita than Dayton is. Of course they also have the MVC history from SLU's prior conference affiliation.
Anyway, whoever SLU plays is a game of interest. We really need the teams we play to stop losing. Other than when they play us of course! Ole Miss picked up a nice road win at Oregon (Oregon is going to be down this year but still). FGCU over UMass, James Madison over Richmond... At least GW beat former conference mate Charlotte today.

Maybe they should consider the Big 10?
Nah, they want a tougher conference . . .
Anyhow, today's results 12/7/14
A-10:
Florida Gulf Coast 84 @ UMass 75
Richmond 46 @ James Madison 51
Charlotte 70 @ George Washington 75
OOC opponents:
Ole Miss 79 @ Oregon 73
#18 Arkansas 65 @ Clemson 68 (OT)

Our OOC is increasingly looking like a dumpster fire.
What are the chances that the Arkansas that played Clemson today shows up next Saturday?
I'm guessing slim to none... and Slim's at the counter buying a ticket out of town.

I'm seriously concerned about the strength of the A-10 this year. The Conference appears to be having a decidedly down year, with some embarrassing losses in the OCS of member schools. If things don't improve in a hurry, the A-10 is unlikely to get more than two or maybe three bids this year. In that case (IMHO), UD cannot afford a mid-season swoon and will need to hold serve at Home if we hope to return to the Tourney.

Arkansas fills their Arena and plays really well at home. It will be a very tough, but winnable game.
How in the world did Northern Kentucky get a home game with West Virginia?

An assistant coach for NKU was a grad assistant for Huggins for 3 years, also, Huggins's nephew plays for NKU.
Nice new 10,000 seat arena for NKU, hope the parking problems are fixed by now.

Arkansas was up by five WITH the ball and about forty seconds. They looked plenty shaky against an inept Clemson. Though Arkansas lost to Iowa St. also, the loss to Clemson took them out of the top 25.
In several games I've seen, Arkansas shows off nicely--then not (lots of little spurts of talent always). Dayton will have a good chance so long as it does not get away early because of the raucous.
Arkansas is a bit below LSU and Florida. (No need to mention K)
The loser here will obviously make it harder for themselves.

Providence lost to Brown University the other night, I think those schools traditionally play each other, big upset in the state of Rhode Island between two schools located in Providence.

South Dakota with 6 points in the final 10 seconds to take Creighton to OT. Not really a game of note, but a great finish nonetheless.

SDSU shot lights-out (21/41 overall & 8/13 from deep), and SLU couldn't hit the ocean from the beach (19/57 overall & 2/19 from deep). That's a sign of a young team (porous defense & poor shot selection). Hope for SLU's sake (and for the sake of one of our most likely "rivalry" games) they can turn it around before the middle of the conference schedule.

Not necessarily UD related, but certainly worthy of note -
Incarnate Word (First Year D-1) wins at Nebraska
SE Oklahoma State (D II) wins at Tulsa

Gotta love St L_ playing one of the worst schedules I've ever seen and still stinking it up. And in our pod, even worse for our RPI
Wonder though if we should have gone this route back in the dark days of O'Brien, playing weaklings until we could rebuild???

We played weaklings under O'Brien, and lost to them.

Isn't the 45 in the first half also noteworthy--that's a 90 point pace by itself if my math is right.

That was a good true road win for Davidson. That is a long way to travel for a basketball game!

Davidson is 2nd in the country in scoring and assists per game. That's impressive regardless of who they've played. The fewest points they've scored in a game is 72 (twice, against UNC and UNC Wilmington). They average 89.9 per game. That's a potent O! They've already broken the 90 point mark 5 times. Wow.

SLU has never had a lot of success as a program. Spoonball brought them some for a few years but Majerus was a once in a lifetime get and IMO that level of success is not likely to return.
As I said when they did it SLU will regret giving Crews the permanent gig. An interim coach winning with the holdover players of a prior successful coach is not a predictor for future success for most administrators don't have a pair of cojones big enough to let an interim go after a successful season.

I agree about Crews, but how many good candidates are going to want to come someplace that just got rid of the guy who was so successful in his short role as HC? It would make me nervous about what the expectations are and how good the job security is.

I have a soft spot in my heart for DePaul. When we were left in the MCC, Depaul acted like it was choosing between the Great Midwest and A-10 and said the A-10 needed to extend an invite to Dayton for them to consider joining it.
St. Louis and Marquette ran away from us as quick as possible whereas Depaul stood by us. I root for them in every game. OP was a great coach and turned UD around is another reason to root for them. They have my respect.
We should not forget Marquette and St. Louis abandoned us while Depaul stood by us.

Respect what he did for us....but..
Unfortunately DePaul is staring at being toward the bottom of the food chain in the NBE again.
Just don't see Oliver surviving what has been a recurring sad theme for another season.

W/ SDF, as much as I appreciate what OP did for UD and as good as his track record at turning around programs has been, its just not happening at DePaul. Don't know why, but I have trouble seeing OP surviving past this seasons. How old is Purnell? I know he's done some work with USA basketball, and not that he needs the money, but I wonder if he can use that connection as a means to stay involved in the game and fill the time or if he'd look for another head coaching gig somewhere.
As far as UIC is involved, that is helpful for both UD and the at large picture. I posted an article for cbs the other day wondering if the AAC might just be a 1 bid league this season. While I think they'll end up with at least 2, every additional lose like that by a conference member makes the possibility a little stronger. Obviously the less bids for the AAC, the more available for the A10 (and everyone else)

OP has never been able to get great recruits consistently. He has made more happen with average guys than most coaches do with better players. My speculation would be he hates recruiting and has reached the point where he is not going to put in the kind of time Archie and some others do.

Well said Ruelchagrin. As Flyer fans we owe 75-90% of the post- JOB turnaround to OP and his diamond in the rough successful recruitment of Ryan Perryman.
