What's wrong with SS?
Is SS hurt? He's shooting like the people at halftime trying to win a diamond bracelet.
Last year he shot 39.5% from 3. 8 games into the season he was shooting 45.7%. Over the next 5 games he shot 4-27 (14.8%) and most of his shots aren't even close.
Is he injured? Cooke is going to be battling that wrist for weeks, we need SS to shoot the ball well. I can't believe LaSalle didn't pack that zone against us and dare us to shoot from outside. Crosby and Pollard were our best 3 point shooters last night?!

Absolutely nothing. Is this a reprint from last year? Or putting it another way, what was wrong with the entire team from three yesterday? Scooch is a bit of streak shooter. He'll be back at money time.

Our Senior guards are under a lot of pressure to be outstanding night after night due to our young front court. Scoochie is pretty dang good when he is bad. He's awesome when he is average or better.

I thought this was about Sammy Smith. Still waiting on the 30 for 30 on that night.

He has been cold from 3. Even in warm-ups missing a ton. Shooting form great, just slightly long or short. Cold streaks happen and he will get hot again soon.
Driving, passing, and defense still great.

What is wrong with Scoochie is that he only scored 21 points tonight. I expect him to score at least 40 points a game. I don't think that is too much to ask.

Funny thing, when you're record is 11-3(12 wins now), I never look at the Point Guard for negatives. There's just no way you have poor point guard play and win. Today he played 38 tough, tough minutes and got better as the game went on right to the final seconds.

Well, let's not give him too many wins his freshman season since Khari Price was the starting PG.
And let's not forget about Johnny Davis who is unarguably the best PG in Flyer history. But you want to go for 2nd best, let the debate start. I'll start, Bobby Joe Hooper.

It's gotta be tough to bring your A game every night as a point guard (physically and mentally). If you notice, Scoochie's "off" nights usually occur when we don't really need him to bring it. When we need him, he almost always brings it.

Loved when SS banked in the stop and pop 12'-15 jumper. I think banking your shot when you are at a 45 degree angle like he was gives you a better chance of making the shot than when you try to swish it. I am not sure why but 60 years ago that seemed to work best for me.

I will bite. Scoochie is the most important PG in my 46 years as a Flyer fan. Hard to imagine him not as a Dayton Flyer.

I do believe that Scoochie and Kyle had some trash talking going on there with Mathews and it only made both Flyers better at the end. That was some street ball to close out.

I saw KD doing some trash talking, didn't notice with Scooch. I'm guessing KP was in on it by his reaction to his and one play. But, if two players are going to trash talk with other, I love it every time when our guy is KD. Anything that fires him up is a nail in the opponent's coffin.

To take us back to my original point, my question was if SS was injured. Contrary to what was posted above by jack72 he is most definitely NOT a streak shooter, he's been a consistent shooter since at least his junior season. 14% (many shots not even close) on that kind of volume is really unlike him, so I wondered if he was hurt.
In case you'd like some facts to back that up, the worst 5-game stretch he had from outside the arc last year was 28.6% (6-21), making his "current year" 5 game stretch (4-27) almost exactly twice as poor as any he had last year, and on a much higher volume of shots.
Or maybe you're remembering his streaky sophomore season? Nope. Worst streak was 21.4% (3-14), and add to that he only took 14 shots in that span so it was less obvious.
Freshman year? There was never a 5 game stretch where he took more than 13 3's. And in all the 5-game stretches where he had a running total of double-digit 3's, he was over 14% (worst was 16% on 12 total 3's, 8 games into his freshman season).
So it's safe to say that was his worst 5-game shooting stretch of his career.
Glad to see it was just a shooting slump and he's back to shooting the ball well. 3-6 and 2-4 from outside the arc in the last 2 games.

Kyle talks trash? Are you sure? he seems so reserved and a let things come to him type of guy.....
I wonder if when he was born his nut sack was made of titanium or they just became titanium over the years

Kyle and Scooch are incredible. The TV camera shows close-ups of them at stoppages near the end of a game, and they look like they just got out of strata-lounger, little sweat and no hard breathing. They are A+ warriors.

That last transition breakaway pass from SS to KD was a thing of beauty. As soon as he touched the ball, Scooch immediately did some underhand/backspin thing with the pass that hit KD in stride where he took one step toward basket and layed it in. I can watch that play over and over and never tire of it.

From the Providence Journal..
Smith led three Flyers in double figures with a season-high 21 points, but to stop there would be doing the Bronx native a disservice. He added five rebounds, six assists and four steals in 38 terrific minutes, and his fingerprints were all over the deciding 11-0 run in the second half. Dayton (12-3, 3-0) went from 49-44 down to a 55-49 lead in the span of 4:19, as URI was held scoreless and committed three of its season-high 18 turnovers.
SS is Clyde Frazier smooooooth. Not sure if he dresses as well but that will come with more experience.

Ahhh, goldfish. Not basketball related, but I'm old enough to remember Keith Moon of The Who with goldfish swimming around in his floor toms at Hara Arena. Today he'd be arrested for animal cruelty.
