Golden OT Road losses Stink - VCU

Trailing by 15 this game could have been over in 40 minutes, but our Flyers make an insane comeback only to lost in OT...the worst way to lose EVER! UGH.

You can call it a moral victory if you want, but I won't. You can compare it to kissing your sister, but I won't. Close bu no cigar...Close only counts in horse shoes and hand grenades...say what you want, but last night's loss can only be described in 1 word: SUCKED.

But our job isn't just to place blame, but to ask questions and get answers. I'm sure Grant reads my posts as he is always looking for answers, and UDPride is - of course - the place to go for that!

So let's help Anthony make sense of last night's loss.

But keep it classy!

Anybody know what the story with Kostas is? On a night like last night I would have thought his fouls would have been an asset in addition to anything else he could have brought. I know Tillman is statistically a good ft shooter but last night putting him on the line might have been a better strategy than watching him make layups an baby hooks with nobody to challenge him.

I voted for DD, everyone has bad shooting nights but when you put 7 turnovers on top of it (several of them were just horrible turnovers), it’s a really tough night.

I voted for DD because I think he hurt us the most last night. As far as JD and TL goes, you must not have been watching that close Rollo. Tons of missed layups between the 2. Yes, some were tough contested ones, but they both missed several easy layups.

For the amateur viewer, some shots appear to be 'easy'. But when you're being chased or shadowed by a 6'7" athletic freak, and the speed of the players around you is difficult to measure or anticipate, I could easily argue that there are no 'easy' shots - especially on the road - for anyone.

As a ref, I'm in the mix of low post action 10-15X/week. Freshman basketball is fast...JV is a little faster...varsity is 3X faster than JV. And the D1 prospects I see are 5X faster than the average varsity player. Now add 3 years of development and put 10 of them on the same NCAA court together and tell me a shot is easy...and I'll laugh!

I'm not making these statements from my couch with a Bud Light in one hand and my pecker in the other. I see live action 6 months/year, up close and personal. If Crutcher and JDavis are missing 'close' shots...I get it. But I would never consider them easy. Because they aren't.

DD in a landslide. He's a senior, been in big games, made big shots...but they were primarily in a supporting role. As BMOC this year he simply tries to do things he's not capable of doing by himself.

DD

is a senior who has hit the wall physically because he has played too many minutes given his body type...skin and bones. His mind was first to go followed by his legs. He needs rest at a bad time for rest in the season. Good luck with that.

DD, because there is no reason for him to have 7 turnovers. Period.

Don't assume I am an amateur viewer. I can guarantee I watch as much or more basketball as anyone on this board including you Rollo. I was also sitting 2nd row on the baseline at last nights game and many of those misses happened less than 10 feet in front of me. I work in college athletics and am around division 1 athletes everyday. I think I can say I am not "Making these statements with from my couch with a Bud Light in one hand and my pecker in the other." You must be the typical egotistical ref who thinks the show is about him. See, I can make dumb assumptions as well.

DD- more turnovers than the freshmen and sophomore classes combined last night. Totally frustrating watching his dribble once with no purpose, pick up the ball and bear hug it like a 4th grade girl bullcrap move in the first half. Made me bear hug a few more beers.

Whoever voted for Crutcher, I am hoping you just missed what we were voting for or this was by accident. If not, your clueless about basketball and need a new hobby or team to watch.

DD could have easily gotten called for 2 more travels in the first half as well. He was a momentum killer all game long. That being said everyone is to blame for defensive lapses. Not a single player can guard the ball effectively and we let Tillman isolate his man every time down the court. On a more positive note I think J Davis is gong to be a great overall player for us. He jumps into passing lanes and is getting more and more aggressive going to the hoop. Has to fine tune his shot selection and situation management but every freshman has to do that. He’s impressed me with his growth more than any other player thus far because he’s showing it on both ends of the court.

DD often dribbles the ball too high, especially on cuts to the basket, and this is an easy ball to steal for quick opposing guards. Oftentimes he loses the handle. Also, he needs new sneekers! Ones that will allow him to stop on a dime and give him 9 cents change!

His 7 turnovers could and should be corrected. They were momentum breakers last evening!

It would be nice if we could give DD more of a rest but Crosby's line for 5 minutes was all zeroes with 3 turnovers! AG's hands were tied. I would have rather seen Gruden or Westerfield in there!

I am abstaining from this vote. If Grant can't count on someone to give Davis, Davis, and Crutcher a rest, I'm not blaming anyone. Crosby needs to be on the list.

Watch all you want, it doesn't open your eyes nearly as much as managing 10 players, 20 arms, 20 legs, 2 head coaches and 1 ball nightly. It's the mental aspect viewers lack...and that's not an assumption.

The non-existent bench is the reason we lost in OT. Had Grant gone deeper, we'd have lost in regulation.

I like DD a lot and kept hoping that he would turn around his Soph. and Jr. years. He has had a great year scoring and its meant a lot to this team but his turnovers are ungodly, especially for someone who has logged as many minutes as he has in his career. If he could control his TO's he would be a great player. But unfortunately his 7 turnovers cost us dearly Saturday.

DD's to's killed us at Umass as well. Most are forced as he goes full Crosby into the lane. Never seen him pass off when stymied by defenders.
