Ridiculous. Poor execution down the stretch for sure. Bad whistle hurt, but can't blame it all on that. Kosta got some good minutes, and we didn't have Josh for most of the game. This team could still really come together.

Needed a 3 and Svoboda isn’t even on the court?

Horrible shot by X. Ballgame.
Will be interesting to see Figgie's +/- on this one. I have a few suspicions, but I'll withhold judgment until I see the numbers.

Lol that was awful. Why was Crosby not in the game the last several minutes. Much rather have him than Crutcher. Wonder what Coach Grant was thinking?

And why not Svoboda for the last set??? Best to have as many 3 pt. shooters on the floor when the three is what you need.

AG got out-coached. Hate the Crutcher over Crosby; hate Landers over Josh at the end.
20 fouls on Dayton; 13 on Hofstra; 14 FTs by Dayton, 26 by Hofstra. Combination of dumb fouls and bad officiating. Should not be that close versus Hofstra, seriously they were not good. Had 2 players who scored 46/72 points on FTs and 3s (32/46 points on 3s and FTs). This is not tough to defend.

Winnable until the end. Losing Cunningham to fouls hurt. At least we pay three games in this tournament and Kostas is improving every game. Looked good in his second college game.

Would have liked the hurried 2 for another possession. Guessing AG doesn't trust these guys without setting up out of a timeout... Which was evidenced by the last out of bounds play of the game.

Lots of things I don't understand about the substitutions.
Crosby made a couple poor choices but not enough to get benched IMHO and it's not like Crutcher did anything besides that 3 he hit. Maybe it was defense.
And no Cunningham after his 4th foul? I know he wasn't playing well but let him play! I know Kostas was playing well but just play both of them at the same time and slide Xman to the 3 spot.
I'm currently very confused by the substitution patterns.

I'm guessing he wasn't the first option on that play. Not when he was 1-7 from deep before that shot, and he was drifting left, in the left corner.

AG designs a 3 for X who was 1/8 and bypasses Baby D who was 4/5?!!?? Had 18 seconds, run that play for Baby Day. I am so perplexed by the call.

AG needs to remember that in the college game you need to have situational substitutions. In the NBA many times you stick with the five guys who are playing best down the stretch, but college is different. Should have been some Crosby, Cunningham and Svoboda mixed in down the stretch tonight.

Just ran 2 plays back late in the game.
Crutcher should have probably tried to continue driving and score the ball himself instead of giving to Xman who then got called for a charge. Crosby would have tried to finish.
The play with 18 seconds left was only setup to go to Xman. Once the ball was inbounded Darrell just stood in the short corner. If he had been shooting well that's fine but tonight he wasn't. Run the same play to Darrell

No moral victories. Dayton lost to Hofstra. AG is not disappointed enough on the post-game. This is one of the worst 10 losses in last 7 years. Quick look at kenpom (adjusted for location), equivalent losses were to @Lasalle in 2016, home Chattanooga in 2016, @Duquense in 2015, USC in 2014 home, @Miami 2012, Buffalo home 2012, Rhody Home 2012, Duquesne home 2012.

Yeah kind of puzzled by AG's lineup down the stretch and not real impressed with plays drawn up after timeouts, oh well. Knew this would be an up and down year, hope there are more ups than downs.

Disappointed in the loss. We need to be prepared for some up and down play this year. Loved what we saw from Kostas...makes you wonder why he only got 6 minutes against Ball St.
DD is proving that he can be the senior leader we need, but he needed help from X and Josh tonight.

Our biggest problem was finishing on the fast break. Too often we had an advantage and couldn't execute. Worse we wound up charging or fouling them. Additionally, near the end we let the shot clock run down too far and had to settle for bad shots like the 3 by Trey (no pun here). I think if we player them again we'd win, but not tonight. Too many breakdowns on both ends.
On the positive side DD played well. Kostas too. X got better as the game went along. I also though we were tired down the stretch as we hardly subbed.
Crutch is terrible on D, except when he was out on point in what looked like a loose zone. Crosby is far better on D and rebounds. No one really makes the offense flow. Svboda, well it's it first game and it looked like it. Not sure what his position really is yet.

I also did not understand Crutcher playing the entire end of game instead of Crosby. Crutcher many times looked like Crosby last year with uncertainty running the offense. Either Crosby got into it with Grant or is injured. Williams was a huge disappointment. Little passion and poor shooting. Our fouling lost this one. There were a few questionable calls, but overall we need to stop running at three shooters and instead guard them. Poor D = Poor fouls.
Matej was a disaster. You could tell he was brain dead and hesitant on D but a bunch on offense.
Wow, Kostas is the real deal. He anticipates, is so quick and athletic that he can do things no one else can. Great on defense and will be great on offense.
We struggle on offense with little inside game and poor thee point shooting other than DD, who played great on both ends. BTW on the last play Grant ran DD from the right corner under the basket for a screen and to the left corner. He was not open. Hofstra knew he was the man.

On the last play that is exactly what happened and DD wasn't open. AG just had to call a normal inbounds play since he had no timeouts left.
But the play with 18 seconds left where DD never moved was what I didn't understand.

All this may be true. But it works in the opposite direction as well: Hofstra won against the weakest, least talented, most inexperienced UD team in 7 years.
Far more talented UD teams (by a mile) lost those other games. Some of those opponents even worse than Hofstra. Im not sure its precisely apples to apples.
To my eyes, Hofstra had equal talent. We play them 100 times we win 45-55. This is year two of BG all over again. Ceiling is lower. Who UD may have beaten or lost to in the past does not affect what this years team is.
Scoochie, Kyle, Kendall, Charles, Ryan, and Sam aint out there. As frustrating as our bonehead mental mistakes were and as suspect as the D and shot selection was at times, Ive been far more disappointed by far better teams even in victory.
Im not doing cartwheels over the reality, but the reality tempers my expectations accordingly. Anything more is unfair. Frosh and first time starters do inexplicable things. What we have seen thus far is spot on with that. When 2/3rds of the team fits this description its even more pronounced.
If tonight was a Top10 loss, it wont be the only one. More ups and downs to come.

This team might lack experience but there's no way in heck they have less talent than Archie's first 2 teams. Offensively I think they have more talent than any of AM and BG's teams. Inexperience and lack of in-game coaching has caused this offense not to light it up like they should. Heck, from what I saw of Kostas tonight, he has more raw talent than any UD player I've ever seen.

Talent doesn't always translate to production. You mention it...but decision making will be the wild card.

I really believe that their offense is extremely talented. Everyone of them bring something to the table offensively. Unfortunately we can't say the same on D. We have no Huelsmans and Kyles in there that cannot be counted on to make their own offense. We don't have just athletes that the only thing you can count on is their inconsistency. Decision making as Shocka said is why it hasn't translated yet, but you can see, this offense is very athletic and talented.
I really believe they could've won the game last night easily if they'd just kept putting the ball inside, but impatience brought on by inexperience probably kept them from doing so. This team has some 3 point shooters, but that should be last resort in last seconds of shot clock. We have the size and athleticism to win on the inside offensively.

Decision making was the factor last night...but right now I don't have anyone in my mind with 6 seconds on the clock that I give the ball too and tell them to have at it.
DD last night buried a 3 on a step back. Kostas had some nice moves. But nothing stood out as having anyone that we can count on across the board...let alone 5. Potential and where they are at now aren't even on the same planet.
Last years team was better offensively by far. Which is expected given what this team has right now and what they have gone through.
I don't think we are too far off on what would have given them a better shot last night...but they are not by any means better than or equal to offensively than last years team.
