Richmond Game Thread
Big Game coming up on Thursday against the surprise A-10 leader 5 games in. Thankfully this is the students first day back after the break, so they should be ready.
Game is at 7 PM on Thursday Night and will be shown on ESPNU.
Starting Lineup:
G 3 ShawnDre’ Jones 6’0” 165 SR Houston, Texas
G 2 Khwan Fore 6’0” 175 SO Huntsville, Alabama
G 32 Julius Johnson 6’3” 185 SO Cocoa, Florida
G 11 De’Monte Buckingham 6’4” 215 FR Richmond, Virginia
F 10 T.J. Cline 6’9” 230 SR Plano, Texas
Like we all know Cline is easily their best player and not any different this year... 17.8 PPG 7.9 RPG 5.3 APG (not many players in the country have similar stat lines). Jones also averages 17 PPG. Also, their frosh Buckingham has been fantastic lately, he averages about 10 points and 5 boards a night.
Will be a really good test.
Get it done... GO UD!

Dayton up to 8th in pom D. I think that’s amazing given their lack of a rim protector.
11 point favorites tonight.
Things Richmond does well – make 2s (54%), defend 3s (31%), take care of the ball
Things Richmond does not do well – defend without fouling, off rebound
Richmond won’t be able to exploit Dayton on the glass, but Dayton shouldn’t generate many extra possessions via turnovers.
Difference on paper should be Flyers getting to the line. A lot.

Wish we were better once we get to the line. Just 10th of 14 in A10. Eventually this is going to cost us. KP has gotten better but is still weak. KD has regressed.

LMAO..So?? Ya it doesn't matter until possibly/probably a couple of these next six road games and maybe even a game or two at home and they find themselves shooting FT's at a splendid 50-60% and end up losing....I'm sure you'll just be ecstatic and ready to throw your remote at the screen saying you'll just take the good with the bad.....

Pollard has to stay out of foul trouble. Going to be a challenge. Would be sweet to see Cline get whistled for a couple early fouls.

Cline is super on offense, but has been terrible on defense. I hope he is still that way.

I know one aspect of the game they should not hurt us at is offensive rebounding since they don't even send anyone to the glass when they shoot.

UD can't hit the broad side of a barn from 3 and has already given up 2 offensive rebounds to Richmond.
And Cooke finally hits a 3.

Crosby with a horrible entry pass.
Then Miller fouls Cline. Gotta get Kendall back in. Miller has no business guarding Cline

Great sub by Archie with KP getting his 2nd foul. Replaces him with Xman to guard Cline instead of Miller.

Archie's repeated unwillingness to call a timeout while a team is making a huge run just baffles me.

I understand trusting your players to work through runs, but especially with a team as offensively-efficient as Richmond can be I don't understand why Miller didn't call one when Richmond scored six straight.

He must have a bonus in his contract for every timeout he doesn't use.

Just wait until UD sells naming rights to them; they'll definitely all get used them. "DP&L timeout, Dayton."

I forgot to mention earlier but Darrell completely getting out of the way on the one fast break was inexcusable. All he had to do was try to take a charge. He was easily ahead of the guy driving.

I can't believe my general comfort level with Mikesell and Williams on the floor together today compared to the beginning of the season.

Archie's going to keep Pollard on the bench for the rest of this game.
Btw I think Mikesell has played the entire 2nd half so far.

TJ Cline makes some terrible passes. He seems to fall in love with the cute, unsuspected pass which can be easily intercepted.

Archie's postgame comments on ESPNU were on point after the game. Said he felt they were lazy defensively to start the 2nd half and settled for 3's just because they went in during the first half.

Only against teams where there is someone he can guard. The two minutes he played tonight were early when Cline was out and there was a backup post player for him to guard. Then he played one possession with Cline in the game and immediately fouled him. Archie took him out right after it happened.
