Mid-Summer Miscellania

BEVERLY HILLS (MI) -- Here’s the latest minutia from around the intrawebs:

-- If a picture is worth a thousand words, then here’s a link to a 41,000 word piece from the DDN on Chris Wright:

http://projects.daytondailynews.com/...D/chriswright/

-- Interesting stat chart, courtesy of Yet Another Basketball Blog. To no one’s great surprise, BG Boys rank #11 nationally in terms of bench minutes played (scroll-down necessary to see Flyers ranking):

-- Here’s a name to remember: 6’ 4” Class of 2012 SG Sherron Dorsey-Walker of Detroit Pershing HS who recently got his 1st D-1 offer -- from UD:

Love what they have to say about BG:

“Dayton head coach Brian Gregory has been furiously recruiting the state of Michigan, something that bears watching for some of Michigan's 2011 prospects, including Detroit Southeastern/Team Detroit F Percy Gibson.”

-- It’s never too early for some summer Bracketology, especially when it has the Flyboys dancin’ next March:

-- “The Hometown Coach” Mark Adams has a brand new business website:

http://www.enthusiadams.com/

But when you click on Mark’s old hoops URL, you draw a blank:

http://www.adamshoops.com/

Hopefully, the basketball site is just hibernating for the summer and will be back come College Hoops season.

-- Speaking of websites that are “snoozing for the summer” here are a few others:

One of my favorite Michigan sites, We Fly Higher Ballers, which hasn’t posted a fresh blog item since their May 8th piece on Dwuan Anderson:

http://www.freewebs.com/michiganballers/apps/blog/

And of course, Flyers Fieldhouse, asleep at the switch since March 13th:

-- Jeff Goodman of FoxSports.com on the King Solomon approach that the NCAA took with the “First Four.” Goodman spoke to BG about this and here is what Coach had to say:

“Dayton coach Brian Gregory, whose team won the NIT last season, is a proponent of the new system — even though his Flyers could wind up playing in one of the opening games involving the final at-large teams.

"You're in," Gregory said. "You have to win to advance. To me, you just want to get in."

Gregory also said he anticipates a high percentage of the winners in the at-large games continuing to advance in the tournament.

"They've got a game under their belt and already know who they’re going to play," Gregory said.”

Linky goodness:

-- Sports Illustrated came out with the “25 Most Hated Teams of All Time” which includes a squad that hasn’t even played a game yet: the 2010-2011 Miami Heat:

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/201...html?eref=sihp

-- Mitch Albom of the Freep may be a world-class writer but falls way short of that as a person, according to fellow All-World scribe Joe Posnanski:

http://joeposnanski.com/JoeBlog/2010...-atomic-albom/

-- Another great writer, John Feinstein, with a touching piece on former UNC Head Coach Dean Smith:

-- Saw a bumper sticker for these guys on my way home from Vermont and immediately thought of my younger sister, the avid hunter:

http://www.mtd.com/tasty/

-- The first guy from my hometown of Leominster, MA to make it big in the pros has passed away. Milt Morin was a tight end for UMass and an All-Pro for the Cleveland Browns:

My dad gave Milt a check up when he was in college and he remarked that he had never seen a physical specimen like Morin before.

That’s it “From the Swamp.”
