“On The Whole, I’d Rather Be In Philadelphia”

WOODBURY (MN) — “From the Swamp” is coming to you from the frozen tundra of southern Minnesota, whereas the Flyers return home to face UMass after an extended (and successful) stay in Philadelphia.

When asked what epitaph he would like on his headstone, legendary comedian (and Philly native) WC Fields is rumored to have quipped:

“On the whole, I’d rather be in Philadelphia.”

Which is ironic because that’s where he ended up being buried.

Quiz any recent UD HC—be it AG, Archie or BG—where they would prefer to be and “The City of Brotherly Love” would assuredly be last on their list. Many a talented Flyer squad has been “buried” in Philly by lesser LaSalle and St. Joe’s teams thanks to some last-second heroics in their bandbox gymnasiums.

But this trip was different: no cheesesteak food poisoning or hotel incidents— just winning basketball. Instead it was the Explorers and that stupid flapping Hawk who got interred.

The most encouraging facet of the two game sweep came during the St. Joe’s tilt when Obi picked up his fourth PF with 14 minutes to go in the 2nd half. Rather than folding up their tent and going home, the Flyers actually extended their lead without the big fella. That’s senior leadership in the persons of Trey Landers and Ryan Mikesell for ya.

It appears that unlike the “Free beer tomorrow” signs you will occasionally see in drinking establishments, this is the “Wait til next year” we have all been anticipating.

Make sure to take the time to take it all in and enjoy it while we are so blessed.

For example:

— According to this article, Dayton is the most underrated team in the country:

— Jay Bilas of ESPN continues to sing UD’s praises:

— As does Seth Davis at The Athletic:

—Nice article and interview with #1 from NCAA.com:

The Athletic pegs Obi as their Mid-season POY:

— Obi is the #2 POY candidate according to Larry Brown Sports:

— AG is getting some serious consideration as COY and rightfully so:

— Obi has been added to the “Wooden Watch List” for National POY:

No one knows where this magical ride will take us, but there is every reason to believe that it could very well be ATL.

That’s it “From the Swamp.”

Speaking of ironic deaths, isn’t it ironic that Lou Gerhig died of Lou Gerhig’s Disease? (Obscure Sapranos reference)
