Chandler is a Canadian, who played guard in HS and center and forward at Cuse. She was highly recruited, and a top 100 player. Known to be a good three point shooter, but weak rebounder. Great get for the Flyers.

Her numbers seem a bit anemic for a top 100 player. Syracuse stats show she played most games but never started - so injury does not seem to be a reason. Any more info to fill us in?

Skeens added. Looks like a Burdette type of player. 2 scholarships still open for 2017 but unlikely to be used unless an exceptional transfer. 2 additional ships available for 2018.
2018 Class (2022 Seniors) -
Skeens (verbal)
2017 Class (2021 Seniors) -

I am loving this news. I am hoping we kick Chandler back outside if she is more comfortable in that role and get another big for the inside. Hopefully, Harris toughens her up even more going against her in practice.
Skeens has won her conference player of the year award three times and still has her senior year to play?
Exciting times to be a Flyer fan.
Go Flyers!

Behind Ella Skeens' 32 points, the Panthers (1-0) got a season-opening win on the road Tuesday evening.
Skeens also racked up 14 rebounds and passed our four assists

Southeastern senior Ella Skeens made scoring 30-plus points look easy Thursday night in a win over Adena.
Skeens dropped 38 points on 13-of-19 shooting while adding five rebounds, four steals and a pair of assists.

Skeens plays for a small school, only 350 students, but putting up those numbers against anybody is good news for us.

You are thinking of Fairfield High School near Cincinnati which has an enrollment of over 2,000.
Her team was playing against Leesburg-Fairfield which is east of Hillsboro and Wilmington and basically in the middle of nowhere. It is technically also Fairfield HS but is sometimes referred to as Leesburg-Fairfield so people don't confuse the 2 schools. The enrollment there is probably around 250.

Cannatelli and Scaife not the only ones putting up 30+ points last night -- Skeens chips in 31 (with zero threes) and six steals...which was a followup to a 30 point night (12 rebounds) on Tuesday.

Skeens taking a "coast" game by only scoring 25 tonight...
https://twitter.com/ohio50/status/950899097459937280
There was also this blurb about Skeens in today's Chillicothe Gazette:
http://www.chillicothegazette.com/st...rs/1017709001/
Ella Skeens, Southeastern
By the time Skeens is finished, she could be very well be the SVC's all-time leading scorer. The University of Dayton commit is averaging 27 points per game and is shooting 102-of-186 from the field, or 55 percent. What's more impressive is the fact that she's 81-of-102 at the line, or 79 percent. Entering Tuesday night, Skeens had scored 1,840 career points with single-game season highs of 38 points and 14 rebounds.

Southeastern's Ella Skeens became just the fourth player in the history of the Scioto Valley Conference to eclipse the 1,900 career point mark. The senior scored 37 in a win over Adena Thursday, putting her career total at 1,902.

You guys are going to love Ella! Exceptional athlete with a work ethic to match. Plays hard at all times. She can score at all three levels. She can get to the basket, shoot the 3, and has a mid-range game you don't see all that often anymore. Very unselfish player that puts winning above her personal stats. She'll put as much effort into defense as she does offense. She does play for a small school, but was one of the top players on her Cincinnati Angels AAU team. I think she'll quickly become a fan favorite.

She sounds great. Glad we are moving up after the seemingly lackluster recruiting of last year with two juco's that have provided minimal value and Ward, who seems a lot like Detwon Rodgers.
Haven't heard anything about what the other transfers look like. We need a lot of help next year losing 3 starters that account for 46% of our points and 53% of our rebounds.

We did have two juco transfers and one got hurt. We have Phillips who plays hard and spells the starters long enough to get a decent break. We are better with her than without her.
Ward did get hurt and if it is long enough she will have a medical redshirt year. However, she is a big time player and if we can get by without her, I would rather her get healthy and contribute for three more years than a small portion of this season.
The other juco got hurt and is out for the year, so we will have an extra year of her too. We have two transfer players coming from seriously good (Syracuse and South Carolina) schools that will make an impact next year.
If we could just get a couple of our current players healthy, with what we have coming in next season and the transfers and juco players, I think we will be incredibly tough.
Shauna knows how to coach and how to get what she needs out of each player. They seem to know their roles and work together. We have done what we have done shorthanded and this team believes in themselves and each other and have bought into what Shauna and her staff are doing.
I am excited after beating Fordham on the road that we can potentially run the table in the A-10.
Go Flyers!

Duquesne is getting national votes. Good thing we play in dayton. Local Alter girl playing for Dukes. She scored 14 points in game against UCONN.
Duq lost 102 to 54.
They beat Toledo handily.

Two big games this week for Ella. Non-conference game tonight against a 17-2 Washington Court House team, and then Thursday against conference rival Unioto with an outright conference championship and 41 straight conference wins on the line.
Also, Ella's Hudl page is fun to watch...

Her game sort of reminds me of the guards Fordham and SJU have hurt us with in past seasons. She has a nice lean-in mid-range jumpshot. I dont think she'll be able to get that same shot off as easily in the A10, but she doesnt need to yet. Sees the floor very well and passes well. I also like her size at 5-11 as a shooting guard or lead guard.
The transition challenge will be going from HS to college. Ive watched many highlight clips and oftentimes she's the tallest player on the court and lots of totem pole/ball watchers. Getting her shot is pretty easy and there is not much defensive resistance to force her to do something other than just shoot over the defender.
Hoover played at an even smaller level however. If you can play you can play. She seems really tough and feisty. Thats what served Hoover early on -- felt like she had something to prove to zip people up.
Skeens' form on her J will make Shauna happy. She has gotten it to the muscle memory stage and not the "chuck it" stage. LC24 will like playing with her. Make it rain.

Chris - It definitely appears she is an athlete. According to Max Preps, she is a 4 year volleyball player with reasonably high kill percentages. (used to jumping - ie like Justine Raterman)
She has the following all time track and field best rankings, regardless of school grade, for Southeastern as follows:
1) 100 meters - 5th best in school history
2) 200 meters - 2nd best in school history
3) 400 meters - 1st best in school history
I do not know how long these records have been kept.
The basketball videos show she like the straight on top of key three pointers.

74pts away from the Ross County All-time scoring record, boys or girls.

We have seen Ella play AAU ball several times over the years. Ella is the type player who could legitimately run the point for the Flyers in a pinch, and 5 minutes later be under the hoop not afraid to mix it up with the post players scrapping for rebounds. Very high court IQ. Going to be a special player for the Flyers.
From reading a few of the articles, I am surprised her assist average is not much higher with the way she sees the court.

Most impressive was Ella's 16 rebounds against two skilled, big 6 footers for Eastern Brown. The kid never quits on a play. Very happy to see her get the Ross County scoring record! It couldn't happen to a better kid and role model!

One final article on Ella. SVC's best ever.
https://www.chillicothegazette.com/s...ory/396087002/
The SVC isn't a storied conference, but have had some great players
Mandy Stanhope - 4 years at Ohio State(3 year starter)
Aubrey Eblin - Starter on the Old Dominion team that lost to Tennessee in the championship game in 1997
Cindy Noble-Hauserman - 4 years at University of Tennessee, Olympic Gold Medalist.
Pretty big deal for Ella to be considered the best ever!

I will try to go to this as I live in Columbus. That is unless I am out of town watching the Flyers in the NCAA tournament.

Kyla Whitehead's team, Pickerington Central, who is 25-2, will play in the Division 1 Regional today.
Amari Davidson's team, Avon HS, finished at 14-9, and lost in the Division 1 District last week.
I cannot find any stats on either player.

I remember Aubrey Eblin. She could play.

Kyla scores 11 as her team moves on, 60-52.
"Kyla Whitehead added 11 points and 10 rebounds for Central, which improved to 26-2 and will play Mason or West Chester Lakota West in a state semifinal March 16 at Ohio State.
It marks the 12th state tournament appearance for the Tigers, who are seeking their first state title since 1999 and seventh overall."

Ella Skeens named first team Division III all-Ohio. Congrats to Ella.
I see no mention of Whitehead or Davidson. Two of Whitehead's teammates got mention.

Kyla Whitehead's #1 Central team easily wins the semi-final and moves on to the big school final today against Solon. Kyla had 6 pts. A good comment I read is that Central plays great defense, so hopefully she brings that and a winning attitude to the Flyers.
"Largely behind the defensive effort of Kyla Whitehead, the Tigers held Mason forward and Florida State commit Sammie Puisis to 14 points on 6-for-16 shooting from the floor."
“We talked to (Whitehead) specifically and reminded everybody we have to know where (Puisis) is at all times,” Hedgepeth said. “Kyla did a great job fighting through screens and staying attached to Sammie.”

Just watched Kyla Whitehead help her Pickerington Central team to the Ohio D-1 state title over Solon. Whitehead was probably the most athletic player on the floor - there being 5 or 6 D-1 college commits on the 2 teams - but not necessarily the best basketball player on the floor.
She is long and lanky at 6' 2" with a very long wing span - a bit like Cornelie. She certainly runs a bit like a gazelle - quite graceful - with good body control. Defensively, she has a lot of ability and pretty good quickness but will have to get stronger. Offensively, she is pretty raw and needs to work on her game. The tools appear to be there if she works hard.

Even though she is known for her D and rebounding, sounds like she clinched the win at crunch time. Love that! "Whitehead made a three-point play to give Central a 44-38 lead with 3 minutes, 41 seconds left, and hit a 15-foot jumper moments later for a 46-40 lead."
