Richmond Game Thread
Excellent Effort last night, will need to bring the same to get a win in Richmond, Virginia.
Reminder, game is on Saturday at 3:00 PM and will be shown on ESPNU.
They are led by one of the best backcourts in the conference. We need to force someone else besides Lindsay to beat us.
Starting Lineup:
G Kendall Anthony 5'8" 140 JR Jackson, TN
G Cedrick Lindsay 6'1" 190 SR Washington, DC
F Trey Davis 6'5" 200 SO Richmond, VA
F Derrick Williams 6'6" 270 SR Harlem, NY
F Alonzo Nelson-Ododa 6'9" 210 SO Atlanta, GA
Hopefully one of Matt or Big A plays, but I doubt it.
Go Flyers! Win this and we can back home 2-1 with a showdown against VCU looming.

Flyers are 12-8 against Richmond since the 1949-50 season. (All since 2000-01.) We have lost 4 out of the last 5, with last year being the sole victory in those contests at UD Arena. Last time winning on the road against Richmond, was on January 14, 2004.
Richmond is a middle of the pack A10 team, maybe a bit lower than we should be, so therefore, we need to beat them to prove it.

This is not a "must" win game with a goal of 4-4 on the road but it would be a good one to put in the bank.

I agree w/ Figgie, if this team wants to finish near the top of the A-10, they'll need to win this game @ Richmond. They've dropped too many of these in the last decade which has kept them pretty much in the middle of the A10 every season.

I am going up to see the game and cheer on the Flyers. Hopefully, we will have a good and loud representation.
We have to hope that Scott and Robinson come to play. With no Kav at Fordham, they were a major weakness, so I hope Kav can play.

Both teams do a good job of limiting opponents scoring:
Dayton . . . . 66.8 OPPP/G (82)
Richmond . . 65.5 OPPP/G (57)
The Richmond defense forces turnovers:

Richmond . . 30.7 3PFG% (273)
Dayton owns a slight edge in three point shots made/game:
Dayton . . . . 6.6 3PTFG/G (135)
Richmond . . 6.3 3PTFG/G (156)
Richmond is very good at defending the three:
Dayton . . . . 32.3 OPP3PT/G% (113)
Richmond . . 28.7 OPP 3PT/G% (20)
Rebounding:
Dayton should own the boards Saturday:

Dayton . . . . +5.8 REB/G (39)
Richmond . . -5.7 REB/G (320)
Foul shooting - Richmond is actually worse than the Flyers:
Dayton . . . . 66.7 FT% (260)

Both teams shoot a similar number of foul shots/game:
Dayton . . . . 24.2 FTATT/G
Richmond . . 23.2 FTATT/G
Looks like a classic offense vs defense match-up - Go Flyers!

Today is grand opening for the renovated Robbins Center with some special events prior to and during the game. Richmond also has a deal of a ticket and Papa John's Pizza for $9 (sounds like a desperate attempt to sell tickets). Bottom line is there should be a big crowd for the Spiders. We need to silence them early and often.

Agree. Can't afford a slow start like Fordham. Not going to be a ton of points scored which makes it harder to come back on.

AM actually used the "z" word as a possible defensive strategy (pre game radio chat w/ Larry) in light of being shorthanded, should they get in foul trouble similar to Fordham.

Richmond with 5 FG on 23% shooting, yet only down by 4 due to Free Throws.
Some fouls have certainly been cheap, but we have to adjust and stop fouling.
I have been less than impressed with Richmond as well, but if we let them shoot free throws all game they will hang around

Feel good about this one. Richmond can't throw it in the ocean. If we work for good shots and keep hitting the boards, we'll be 2-0 on this mini-trip!

Refs kept calling cheap fouls. Until their last game Richmond had shot under 60% five games in a row. Shooting 63%, last in the conference. Against the Flyers they hit 13/14, the only thing that kept them in the game. Typical Flyer luck.

Very Good First Half
on the road for the Flyers but a 4 point lead is slight given that UD is shooting over 50% and Richmond is below 30%. They must continue to win with defense and rebounding. Bob Precozzi is having a rather bad day identifying UD and Richmond and he does cannot distinguish between Devon Scott and Dyshawn Pierre. With Scott at the foul line he mentioned that he was from Canada.

Their foul shooting isn't the problem. We too are shooting our FTs much better than our average of late. It's the disparity in foul calls that's troubling. I hope this stops in the second half

As well as we are playing and shooting it is scary that we have only a four point lead. We have to quit fouling, or quit doing whatever it is these refs think is fouling - breathing on them?

Observations from the game. Oliver is a thug going after rebounds, he runs over people. Sibert struggles understanding the offensive flow when he does not have the ball. Some bad calls but we are allowing the dribble drive then having to grab or foul.

Archie's "T"
Was that his first technical as UD's coach? That had to be the worst "T" on a UD coach since Tom Blackburn got "T'd" at Schmidt Fieldhouse when he was suffering from cancer and could not be heard by the ref to get a time out called.

That's what I meant by, "refs kept calling cheap fouls." But I still think it is a problem that they have hit 13/14.

Looks like another homer job with the fouls called and not called. Richmond is in this game only because of their enormous amount of FTs.
There must be a better way to get the refs' attention without walking several feet onto the floor, lol. Didn't need UR to hit 2 more FTs.
I'm listening to Larry and Bucky on the radio so I haven't heard the TV announcers name goofs. It's not rocket science. Bucky is doing his best to jinx us with his praise of our shooting %, today's FTs, and Lindsay's lack of scoring. I keep yelling, "Don't SAY that!!", but it's probably not going to help, lol.

Flyers averaged over a foul a minute so far in 2nd half. That last one on Price was uber cheap ... no idea what they saw

Richmond with their hands all over Vee on that steal. Price picked up his 3rd foul for giving someone a funny look.
I seriously think the refs have money on this game. Our they are getting paid off by a big booster who wants Richmond to get into the Big East.

Maybe Richmond playing with a sense of urgency and intensity is creating the fouls. Flyers are flat footed and Richmond is exploiting it.... Flyers need to wake up.

Now our offense is stagnant because we are playing without a point guard.

Now losing after a 12-0 Richmond run. Pathetic. Blame the refs all you want, the Flyers are stinking the place up.

18-10 in folds and 20-7 in foul shots attempted. I protest loud as Dayton and refuse to play with these three officials again.

Flyer "D"
has broken down allowing a 12-0 Richmond run. Stop fouling and play "D" with your feet not hands to get stops!

No way on palming. Just watched it 3x on replay. If you call that, call every crossover in college b-ball.
